SINGAPORE: A loud bang was heard coming from a train along the North-East Line at about 7.20 on Monday evening.

Operator SBS Transit said it was due to a sudden electrical surge on the train heading towards Punggol.

A short in the surge protector resulted in a loud sound.

A spokesperson said as a safety precaution, passengers were asked to disembark at Hougang station.

This caused a delay of nine minutes for the service towards Punggol.

SBS Transit said announcements were made to commuters and the affected train was sent back to the depot for checks.

Commuter Alexander Chng said: "There was loud bang, or something, between Kovan and Hougang station.

"The train lights went off but the emergency lights came on.

"The train made its way to Hougang station where most people alighted. Some people were screaming but the train seemed to proceed as per normal. And there were no announcements or anything."

May be the one-in-50 year flood leaked into the tunnel and resulted in electricity surge? Soon the metal pieces inside and outside will be rusty from the result of regular electricity current and water. Perfect storm to cause several problems in MRT for many years ahead right up to election. One more strong weapon to tekan PAP jialak jialak!

If you look at the map of Singapore on Google Maps or Streetdirectory.com, you will find that there are quite a number of underground MRT tunnels that are underwater. They're mostly in the Kallang-Marina-Singapore River area.

Now, if these underwater tunnels were somehow structurally damaged, and water starts rushing in, there could be heavy casualties.

Are all these incidences related We of course know that they are using foreign talent However I'm curious to know what other common factors caused are causing these breakdown

There were rumours that the old man had sough advice from an old monk before building the MRT. He was advised against it.

Somehow, it went ahead....

Could be be due to the China made trains that were purchased not so long ago? Maybe not compatible to our system?

Heard about the made in China buses but I don't think the trains are from china

What surprised me is that they are using MRT & LRT from different vendors. If they wanted to be cheap, wouldn't it make more sense to just use one vendor? There would be an economies of scale in training, parts sourcing, maintenance, etc

btw, the power cables if i remember correctly are laid by Singapore technologies. and someone told me initially, we were supposed to buy the train systems for north-east and circle line from finland. apparently, s'pore government want to to tongkat the french which is a more influential euro country and so bought these half-fuck, break down easily trains from france conglomerate, Alstom.

looks like karma striking them now, i sibeh happy to see so much screw-ups in GLC. sibeh happy, no words can describe!

btw, i pity saw paik hwa. in the 1st place, who chose her as CEO. now everybody lay blame on her. think about it who is the one who is actually responsible for all these shit.
