National Service turns 45, MINDEF invites S'poreans to share stories

Re: Cowardice Is My Main Concern

from ns, learned to take cover. once outside ns, continue to "take cover" - a perennial habit most ns taught our boys. GRENADE!! TAKE COVER!!

Re: Cowardice Is My Main Concern

for the 45 yrs record, wonder how many parents lost their sons in NS? what happen to their lives after? how do they close this tragic episode that bring up their sons for 18 yrs only to have him killed not in a war but in NS.

auntie lina was right. what the hell fuck they want 2.5 yrs of national service from our young men? to protect us or to protect them? to make us proud or to make them proud?? our ns men are made to be worst off than pinay maids who are paid higher than them :(

how many seriously think that reservist training is not a waste of time? KEE CHIU!! hands up!

The real shit started when I was posted out after BMT to armour. I cannot speak for armour units as I had been in Armour school. That was a place when I met some real assholes. They fucked up your life not by physical torture, but through mental hell. That was when I started to hate NS.

u sway to be post to school of armour instead of battlions or brigade where the experience would have be much better. If i were to write in to share my stories of i what i saw, experience and encounter during NSF, the letter would be shred immediately. The following are just some of it.

in bmt, i had a section mate suffer brain damage after suffering fit and heat stroke during a PT lesson. it a case that can be avoided but he was accussed to chao keng by the coy clerk and forced by PC (keling) to attend PT. The PT was not siong but he was already not well, and the physical strain was too much to bear and he collapse just 150m from the finishing line. A passing WO (Delta PC) put his hand into his mouth to prevent him from swallowing his own tongue while my keling 20yo PC grabra beside. The first of many helievac i seen on tekong. As for recruit, he never come back and last i heard his scholarship gone due to brain damage. Then there was a case of misfire in hawk coy armskote when recruit armskote assistant squeeze the trigger of a loaded M16 on the rifle rack, the bullet went right thru the wall. lucky there nobody standing in front of the M16. when i pop, there only 7 men in my section, downgraded for one reason or another thru "accidents".

in armour, i pull platoonmates out of Ultra that drove off the track and into the reservoir just before the old 3DsMB/46 rear gate, suffer a crash in tekong, had a friend drove the M113 off a bridge in aussieland and nobody in the convoy noticed the accident and only taking headcount in camp did ppl notice that M113 was missing. Then i also saw 2 AMX13 fell into a ditch in kanchanaburi in a single day and saw the cock occifier S3 demand the one of crew to climb aboard the stricken AMX13 (in a angle that will cause the AMX13 to roll over) to retrieve the weapons which the crew refused. And also have the Ultra i was in driven into a deephole (either a tiger trap or a shell crater) and the vehicle had to be tow out by the 2 Ultras behind. If the hole is 1-2 metre deeper, the troopers inside would be experiencing "vehicle overturn". FYI, vehicle overturn drill is BS/wayang only, both set of crews (M113 that drove into the reservior and mine M113) had no time to even to react to the accidents, i had my head smash against the cargo hatch when the vehicle fell into the deep hole and then kenna squash again when the sect comd fell onto me. all four of us standing would be kill if the M113 had overturn.

reservist much better but quality of occifier much worse, some were not even bionix trained and some went thru PC tour in NSF driving a desk in HQ. Even the NSF occifiers trainers in ATC also CMI. The only good thing in reservist was being paid to have a 3 weeks camping holidays from work. eat. sleep, tai di, blackjack, canteen break, then more sleep for just actually 4D3N camping trip in Area A to E. only in reservist i can sleep for 10 hours a day, so it a pity now i completed the cycle and posted to the reserves.

My story would have to title "The "accidents" i experienced in the army."

Yeah, its true. Alot of these accidents happened because of human factor. Until now, I can still remember the 2 names who caused me much agonies when I was in Armour. Real assholes.

Re: Cowardice Is My Main Concern

I thought they cannot touch rifle:confused:

But what if a person declare he is gay during reservist, then how:confused:

Do they still have Jehovah Witness?? I have one during my time, holding a loaded rifle in firing range, sitting under a tree, we all took cover under the sandbags, faster than you can say "boo".:p

Re: Cowardice Is My Main Concern

I remember a very lao lan officer who fucked me left right centre during my short stint in Gedong. A famous lao lan asshole! While i was still a NSF after being posted out, i happened to meet him after a movie at Marina Square basement carpark if i did not remember wrongly, ni na bu phua chee bye, lim beh walk straight to him and stare right into his eyes. He then look down on the floor as if there's gold ingot lying around. I gave him a good fucking stare for 2-3mins until my friend arrived with his car to pick me up. I think he was waiting for his friend to pick him up too. And all the while, he was looking down on the floor. Pui!:oIo:

Re: Cowardice Is My Main Concern

Going for reservist trainings is a waste of time. If you are unemployed, or self-employed, or doing a commission-based job, it is a waste of time and money.

I Know What You Mean

I had a great time. It was the best period of my life. The pay was excellent and the working hours were fantastic. We worked 2 hours in the morning and 1 hour after lunch and were at the camp squash courts by 3 pm.

At the officers' mess, the beer was 50 cents and the pork chop was $2.50. Uncensored movies were FREE every Thursday night.

ROD was one of the saddest days of my life. It meant I now had to face the real world and start taking life seriously.

Frankly speaking, I'm also feeling quite guilty now. I didn't end up to become an instructor but was posted to ... cannot tell lah. Reservist down there is a good time to rest and talk about almost anything - a holiday camp. Working days has got OT. Down there foo...ah !

Re: Cowardice Is My Main Concern

I can still remember those days in tekong during the range, all scores were taken manually. So every time got to hold the pole and shout '1 2 3 4 target up', then paste sticker. Quite silly.....

Re: Cowardice Is My Main Concern

My 2 yrs stint was in DB.Everyday 1,2,3,"Permission to carry on Sir!" was the usual routine. There was a fellow samster who was a detainee there before.

Re: Cowardice Is My Main Concern

Those who really don't like to do NS can declare conscientious objection and go to DB for 3 years, i.e. the time that would have been served if you do NSF and reservist. You'd be segregated from those court martial cases. You'd be spared from all the punishing drills and exercises. You'd be just eating and sleeping, daydreaming staring at wall and ceiling, peeing and shitting, waiting for time. Most who declared conscientious objection are JWs.

Now I know how one of the moderator got his nick from :D

I think its silly. To spend 3 years in DB is totally insane. At least when you served, you get the weekend off. For those smarter ones, get posted to be clerks or in HQs, you get to stay out every night.

Beside physical and mental exemption, there're other ways. Go to a temple and become a monk. It sounds easy but you'd be put through series of religious and aptitude tests to confirm that you really sincerely devoutly want to enter monkhood and not just want to evade NS. Most abbots are reluctant to vouch any enlistment-age teenager for that unless he has been frequenting his temple since childhood and got through the tests very well. That's also not a very profitable way since he'd lose his freedom too, not to the army but to the temple until aged 26 years 6 months. If he couldn't take temple life and disrobe, it'd still be NS for him.

A 7th Day Adventist can't get exemption, must go through BMT with rubber replica rife but will be guaranteed a clerical posting after passing out from BMT. But here again, he needs to get a 7th Day Adventist pastor to qualify and vouch for him.

NS is pointless, waste of public money and time. I've seen a recent TV propaganda of how a Singh felt so proud to be the first enlistee in the first batch of NS. How did they manage to trace back and track down this guy, I wonder? He made me feel like vomitting. If really so proud, why didn't he sign on then? NS means forcing people unwilling to do it to do it. Those really willing to do it would have signed on, isn't it? I think all army and police should be professionalized with people interested and willingly committed to it. Then public money would be better spent for better value in professional army and police.

During my National Slavery time, there were White Horses who had a much easier life than the rest of us. Looking back, I see young Singaporean men enlist into NS to learn to smoke, swear, keng, take cover, gamble, visit prostitutes and other vices. Not only is NS pointless, waste of public money and time, it is also bad for society.

My father was in the first batch, he was trained by the Israelis, it was like shit, that Singh is nuts.

How about those who declared themselves to be 302? Any insight on those? I personally came across a few in armour and they really behave in a real feminine way.
