My Friend Jocelyn

Not really but wore pants all the time.

Same same... basically she is really AB normal

Worst part is that she is a jinx and she heads that Tummyache.

Dispite all the mega losses, she is still there. Not nepotism then what is it? Perceived, real or otherwise.

Anger against her won't be that much if she take responsibility and step down. Can she do that?

Actually HC was a slim, fair woman in her youth. Wouldn't be surprised LHL fell for her.

HC may be slim, but she was never the deminine type. She was always wearing pants when she was working. has anyone seen HC in skirt or dress?

I always wonder, despite the feminist movement, does a woman long for a strong shoulder to lean on? If you don't find it in your husband you look for it in another man. Hopefully it is just a platonic relationship and nothing physical but the weak-minded may carry this a bit further especially if there is hero worship. That is why these intra-office affairs often happen between couples several ranks in the hierarchy apart. I believe it is usually an asymmetrical relationship.

Every gal desires a strong shoulder...to be vulnerable is feminine. in every gal there is a secret desire to be dominated

As I said, it could be a one-way street for the kid.

maybe..but the parent just want to pave the way for more options for the kid. ultimately the kid has to make his own decsion when he grows up.

having choices is better than no choice

What choice did you give your kid to have by staying in Singapore ah ?

you didnt read my earlier posts?

what I said was, if I have children, I will migrate for their sake..... so that they have choices.

Thank goodness, this still holds true despite the femme fatales in our midst?:D:p If venus role was swopped with mars, that'll be the day:p

many men misunderstand the gals...they think that gals are domineering, controlling, etc...that's men's misconception ...sad that because of this misconception, there is no meaningful relationship

That is what I am saying. Going from a difficult environment to an easy environment leaves you with less choices not more. Take FTs from Hongkong for example. They come from a more competitive environment. They can easily adapt to Singapore and do very well. They can also go to Australia and Canada or even go back to Hongkong. It may not be easy for Singaporeans to do so as some environments are considered too hard. Remember the world-wide tax regime of Australia? It makes it doubly difficult to move from there.

you noticed that too...

even on most official visitsa and functions, HC can't bring herself to look ladylike.

Today, probably no choice. Otherwise she would be showing stout matronly legs. But in her youth, she wore pants as well. Need to ask her for the reason. Why don't you give her an interview?

I see your point.

But do we subject our children to unrelentless tuition, etc from early childhood?? That's a very personal call.

I was chatting with a friend abt sending her son to Tao Nan...she said "NO!" because if she wants to send him to Tao Nan, the school will interview her and if her son does not know Chinese, she wld be given a list of tuition centres for her to send her son to 3 months prior to him entering primary one at Btao Nan. some parents like that kind of stress but my friend prefers to give her son a more wholesome life.

Who is to say she is wrong?

hahahahah...do i believe them even if she were to say anything? people like them will speak with political tongues rather than the truth.

it's better to draw our conclusions based on what they do rather than believe what they say

Refreshing choice. Childhood come but once. And cooker pressure thingy is no guarantee for moving on in life. Can aslo risk brain damage.

just look at our school children and you can tell whether SG is on the right track..the joy of learning is not there in SG students...they study to do well in examinations...but at the end of it all, what really matters?

That is the problem with parents. They know the children cannot cope but insist on sending them to bilingual schools. Your friend is right not to send her child to Tao Nan because that school has a high level for both languages. If she feels she is disadvantaged, then she had to blame herself for not preparing her child well.

Sometimes it is simple things that make the difference e.g. the TV programmes that you watch. Even if you are not bilingual and cannot help your child in a second language, you can at least watch some second language programmes on TV that carry English sub-titles.

This provides a home environment very conducive for developing the second language. The child at a young age can learn very fast from just listening to people talking. But most parents will not make that little sacrifice.

In fact today except documentaries and blockbusters, I watch mainly Chinese drama serials, a lot more interesting than the US programmes. None of my kids need extra tuition in languages or for that matter in other subjects, not for long periods anyway. Although I am relatively older than most forummers here, I married late and it was not so long ago my kids were in school.

You never know. She might tell you she is sensitive to wind and needs to cover up.
