Ask open-ended questions, not loaded, leading (almost rhetorical ones.)

Loaded, leading or rhetorical, it's all in the mind of the reader. For example, asking what's a supposedly decent student doing out there at 2 a.m. The adverb supposedly may have sceptical connotation but technically it has to be used, since the police don't know the deceased well other than one-sided comments on her reputation by her family and friends. It's like using the adverb allegedly before a suspect is convicted. The place and time also have to be questioned to reconstruct the circumstances, the possibility of companion(s) and/or witness(es) leaving the scene and not coming forth and foul play cannot be discounted unless and until investigated and proven beyond reasonable doubt that it was an accident. Non-police or law trained people will find such line of questioning cold and harsh. That's understandable, but that's how the truth can be found. That's also why police is generally disliked and shunned, even by decent people non-criminals.

I never heard bus hit and run, black saloon car

Maybe even a black legal taxi, not the big one, but cheaper one, where restaurant or pubs will call these for you. Of course, it just be a private vehicle.

Very sad for such young gal to die like this.

I know uk law well, the hit and run driver will spend five to ten years in jail if caught if good conduct in prison. Due to low level crime, he will have human rights, meaning playstation, newspaper, phone time, some even get days off to get out of prison for pubs.

Basically holiday camp for five to tens years, while her family will suffer every day for rest of their life.

Sad, real sad.

'Allegedly' is used to presume innocence, the best possible condition in a situation where there has been foul play.

'Supposedly' as used here does the opposite, i.e., it goes well beyond simply opening the door to the possibility of foul play and / or bad character, it strongly suggests the presence of both in the mind of a reasonable person.

A neutral question would have simply been: 'What was she doing out at 2am?'

Student kills self after friend is run over by bus
London Evening Standard/London

A Cambridge University student is believed to have committed suicide after his close friend was run over and killed by a London bus. George Starling, 19, was found dead four days after student Mingwei Tan, 20, died when she was dragged almost half a mile underneath the vehicle. The body of the second-year engineering student, who was filming a television programme for Channel 4’s Time Team, was discovered in his college flat. Police are not treating his death as suspicious.
His father Lt Col John Starling said his son was “tipped over the edge” by the sudden death of fellow Cambridge student Ms Tan as he was still trying to cope with the recent loss of his mother Deborah, who died in her sleep during the summer at her home in Uffington, Oxfordshire. “He was good friends with the girl,” said Lt Col Starling. “There is no indication she was his girlfriend but she could have been, as we didn’t discuss matters. I think his friend’s sudden death was the event that tipped him over the edge.He lost his mum, my wife, just five months ago. For most of his life I’ve been serving abroad and he was brought up by his mum. He was depressed after she died.
Mr Starling was said to be grief-stricken following the death of Singapore-born Ms Tan – who was acting as his college “mentor” – on September 30 at Haverstock Hill in Belsize Park. He switched off his mobile phone and refused to speak to friends and family. Both were studying engineering at Peterhouse and had developed a close friendship. Mr Starling was last seen by his father on October 1, the day after Ms Tan’s death.
The Cambridge University Karate Club, of which Ms Tan was president, yesterday paid tribute to her as “talented” and a “strong leader”. A spokesman for the university said: “When tragedies such as these occur, colleges notify us immediately and we offer help and support as appropriate, as we have done in these cases.”
A 50-year-old bus driver was arrested in connection with the collision and has been released on bail.

Bus driver in death crash case: I didn’t know that I’d hit anyone
Justin Davenport, Crime Editor
04.10.10

A bus driver arrested over an accident in which a medical student was killed and her body dragged for up to a mile has told bosses that he did not know he had struck someone.

The 50-year-old driver of the N5 double decker has been suspended as a matter of routine following the accident early last Thursday.

Mingwei Tan, 20, a student at Cambridge University, was found in the road with fatal injuries in Haverstock Hill just before 2am.

Her body is believed to have been dragged by the night bus.

Investigators are examining CCTV images from the bus in an effort to establish how the student was hit as she left the Royal Free Hospital in Pond Street.

The Metroline bus company said it was doing everything to co-operate with the police and had launched its own investigation.

Miss Tan was a Cambridge medical undergraduate who was due to start her third year at the university's Peterhouse College, where she was studying medical science.

She was also the president of the Cambridge University karate club.

Dr Philip Pattenden, senior tutor at Peterhouse College, said: “She was doing very well in medical sciences and was a popular member of our community, always full of joy. She will be truly missed.”

Police believe that after Miss Tan was hit by the bus, it turned left into Haverstock Hill, travelling south, past Belsize Park Tube station. Several personal items, including a purse and mobile phone, as well as blood, were found by investigators outside the station.

Her body was discovered near the junction with Downside Crescent.

The bus driver was arrested on Friday and bailed yesterday pending further inquiries. A post-mortem examination carried out on Friday revealed that Miss Tan died of multiple injuries.

An inquest into her death was expected to be opened and adjourned at St Pancras coroner's court today

this is worse case possible.

The bus driver is working at the time.

he is not drunk.

he does not know he hit someone.

I bet he get less than 5 years in prison in cosy prison, which have playstation and weekend off to go out to pub to enjoy a few pint.

while the singapore family suffer every day for the rest of their life.

at the very least, the bus driver will have to have the law for his action.

Compare to the motorcyclist and pillion who was knocked down by SPH editor and the bitch only paid a fine.

come to think of it, why christopher lee kenna go changi resort when his victims only suffer light injuries while this SPH editor only kenna fined for causing deaths.

Bus driver denies charges over death of medical student

25 August 2011

A former bus driver today denied causing the death of a Cambridge University medical student who was dragged for more than half a mile under the wheels of a double decker.
Ming Wei Tan, 20, was found fatally injured in north London after being struck near Belsize Park Tube station on September 30 last year.

Today Shahriar Firouzian, 51, appeared at Highbury Corner magistrates' court charged with causing her death by careless driving. He spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during today's brief hearing. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

Ms Tan's death was followed four days later by the suicide of close university friend George Starling, 19.

Lieutenant Colonel John Starling said his son was "tipped him over the edge" by the death of Ms Tan, only five months after his mother Deborah died.

Ms Tan, who was from Singapore, was living in north London at the time. Martha Godwin, prosecuting, told the court today: "The defendant was driving a bus. The victim collided with the bus and was dragged for a distance of approximately 825 metres."

Firouzian, of Watford, wearing a grey suit, a light pink shirt and striped tie, entered a plea of not guilty and is due to appear at the same court for a committal hearing on October 6.

Granting him unconditional bail, District Judge James Henderson said: "The allegation is too serious for this court to deal with. It needs to be dealt with at the crown court."

Miss Tan had been due to start her third year at Peterhouse College, where she was studying medical science, when she died. She was also the president of the Cambridge University karate club.

What a pity. A bright future a head of her. Condolences to the family.
