More Singaporean Medical Undergrads in OZ than in Spore

Heard that each OZ university has approximately 30 to 40 Singaporeans enrolled for medicine each year. That means that there are more Singaporeans medical undergrad in OZ alone than in Singapore. Not considering US,UK, NZ and Ireland etc.

Some interesting observations
1) Looks like there are rich parents out there, each forking out close to $250K for the course.

2) Singapore unable to cater for Singaporeans

3) True to Singaporean Kiasu syndrome, I heard about the Singapore medical undergrads in OZ when they formed a mock exam exercise inviting others to join in.

Interesting that a country can build so many colleges, institutions for foreigners but does not seem to understand that there is market for locals prepared to fork out money. Poor policy and planning. In the end, we end bringing in 3rd world doctors from India, Philippines etc. One recently caused a patient's death and was disbarred.

Here is a suggestion for PSC chairman Eddie Teo and Minister for Education for city of Singapore to outsource all education for Singaporeans to 1st world countries, convert NUS/NTI/SMU to cater to foreigners and engage cheaper lecturers and academics.

Lee & Lee can get all the property developers to build dorms and apartments for foreigners and make the usual killings that they are accustomed to but at a higher scale.

I know a Sr Civil servant who had 3 boys. When the 1st boy did A levels, that cohort had to undergo the first aptitude test. No luck. 2nd kid, the same. 3rd kid truly aced the exams still no luck. Father wanted to send the kid to Ireland to study medicine but they had a ruling that foreign medical grads won't be admitted to practise locally at that time.

The family ended up with 3 lawyers. Father was so fed up that he packed up his bags and left for China.

Interestingly its was the same year when Viv Balakrishnan wanted to do law but PSC told him to do Medicine if not he would get the Presidents Scholarship. So Viv father after retiring as a teacher took up law.

In the same breath, I know a family of 3 boys staying next to the former National Semiconductor factory (best mini skirt uniforms of the glory years) at Lower Delta Road from a 3 room flat who all became doctors.

Singaporean Citizens and PRs who want to enter the medical field but have inadequate qualifications to qualify in the local university are a joke.

"Do not wear such a big hat if your head is not as big."

They should just be down-to-earth and stick to administrative jobs.

Good idea, that sounds even better. Its really sad that despite the claiming meritocracy and the serach to bring in those that don't have privileged backgrounds, the rich will still get their medical degrees elsewhere.

Unless they are on government scholarships these kids of the so-called rich are simply not good enough to qualify in local academia. Simple.

I don't think you get it.

If the country decides to operate one secondary school and close the rest. The end result will be that the brightest in a meritocracy will get in. The remainder will no longer be eligible for secondary education. By your reasoning, they are simply not good enough even if they have sufficent standards.

As society advances, the capacity and literacy rate will rise and the country must accommodate them. One can pretend to have quality and restrict the numbers but is that the case.

At the end of the day, all those trained overseas are now eligible for registration in Singapore as they attending schools that are accredidated. So those who are rich can practice while those who can't afford it, will have to bite their tongue and handle blur cases like you.

Get the picture, simpleton.

Nah looking at this we really don't think you get it either. Do not lie about what you think Singapore is doing to its schools when you know nothing of what other countries like Japan does that are way beyond your laughable comprehension you worthless little armchair critic.

At the end of the day medical companies both public and private are evidently more amenable to the idea of hiring local college graduates (even if some of them are foreign students) over foreign ones, chiefly to show their strong support for your government's reliable institutions. That's just what's happening which is a good thing. Foreign college graduates can easily find work in their host countries and maybe elsewhere but that is a different matter in this discussion.

We would like you to bear in mind that it's not totally about wealth either, so stop throwing in the subject of money to form a part of your perverted and insane reasoning you shamelessly masquerade as logical and right.

Also, learn that you don't really need to be rich to graduate in a local college and be a quality professional in the medical industry here. Your government does subsidize a lion's share of your college tuition fees, and so brains for the most part to qualify for entry would do. If you have none, then too bad.

Perhaps a brainless little frog like you could only afford to go to Third World countries for your medical treatment (you can't even pay for local which is a bad joke seriously), but that's what a rubbish pauper like you fully deserves anyway.

Those who have very little love for their country should not expect to receive anything from the latter in return. This is as factual and logical as it gets.
