More SGs in their 30s jobless! HR Experts advise lower pay expectations...

Lower expectations.....how low they want?

1k a month?
900 a month?
or
600 a month?

Can we ask our ministers to lower their pay too?

:o  :o

If at age 35, still got reservist to serve. Employers will go for FTs/PRs, no such problem.

Reservist used to be 5 times after NS and all NSmen completed their NS reservist obligation before age 30. After one smart aleck BG Lee proposed to increase reservist training to 13 times and before age 40, everything changed.

NSmen suffer job discrimination and marginalisation because of that harebrained proposal. The rest, as they say, is history ....

You know how difficult it is to look after the second key?

Got 56 man-years and things like that you know?

I'm worth every penny, and the prata.:D

Heh in Singapore, they don't consider underemployment to be a problem.

Even if you get a $500/month job, also considered employed. Don't want it? They say you too fussy.

Singapore's World Records
On this small island lives the 30 best-paid politicians in the world, comments a blogger. MySingaporeNews.
Apr 3, 2009
As the economic crisis worsens and thousands are being retrenched, the huge salaries of Singapore's political leaders have come under the spotlight not only here - but overseas.
With G20 leaders gathering in London to work out solutions to the global crisis, the Times compiled a list of "the 10 best-paid politicians in the world" - naturally with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong taking the top spot.
The story was picked up by The Australia, which also works out their salaries when ranked against population.
Mr Lee earns S$3.76 million (US$2.47 million) a year, excluding bonuses, allowances, pensions, etc which add on a significant bit.
This is about 54 cents per head of population. In second position was his counterpart from New Zealand at 9 cents. The rest of the world are all down there, below even the lowest-ranking minister in Singapore.
But Singaporean blogger redbean's "My Singapore News" carries a calculation from its reader, Green Peas, expanding on the UK and Australian reports.
It pointed out that the world's 30 best-paid politicians (a definition that will include ministers, elected president, etc) are all from Singapore.
Here's what the blogger says:
The TOP 30 highest paid politicians in the world are all from Singapore:
1. Elected President SR Nathan - S$3.9 million.
2. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong - S$3.8 million.
3. Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew - S$3.5 million.
4. Senior Minister Goh Chok Thong - S$3.5 million.
5. Senior Minister Prof Jayakumar - S$3.2 million.
6. DPM & Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng - S$2.9 million.
7. DPM & Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean - $2.9 million
8. Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo - S$2.8 million.
9. National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan - S$2.7 million.
10. PMO Miniser Lim Boon Heng - S$2.7 million.
11. Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang - S$2.7 million.
12. PMO Minister Lim Swee Say - S$2.6 million.
13. Environment Minister & Muslim Affairs Minister Dr Yaccob Ibrahim - S$2.6 million.
14. Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan - S$2.6 million.

15. Finance Minister S Tharman - S$2.6 million.
16. Education Minister & 2nd Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen - S$2.6 million.
17. Community Development Youth and Sports Minister - Dr Vivian Balakrishnan - S$2.5 million.
18. Transport Minister & 2nd Minister for Foreign Affairs Raymond Lim Siang Kiat - S$2.5 million.
19. Law Minister & 2nd Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam - S$2.4 million.
20. Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong - S$2.2 million.
21. PMO Minister Lim Hwee Hwa - S$2.2 million.
22. Acting ICA Minister - Lui Tuck Yew - S$2.0 million.
23 to 30 = Senior Ministers of State and Ministers of State - each getting between S$1.8 million to S$1.5 million.
Note: 1. The above pay does not include MP allowances, pensions and other sources of income such as Directorship, Chairmnship, Advisory, Consultancy, etc to Gov-linked and gov-related organisations or foreign MNCs such as Citigroup, etc.
2. Though it is based on an estimate, the data cannot be far off the official salary scales.
The above was posted in redbeanforum by Green Peas.

30s are the new 40s in Sinkapore, the 20s have the same problem. Not able to study in local university and told to lower their "expectation". I think the government might as well tell all sinkies to lower their expectation of themselves, the country, their life. Makes things easier when you have nothing else to strive for.

I think at this rate, soon Gahment will be telling us to lower our expectations and forget thinking about Swiss standard of living. They will tell us to think about 3rd-world's standard of living:

Didn't the Prime Ministar in his National Day Rally reminded you the Singapore in 1950s and 1960s? He failed to rally you or you've got amnesia iszit?

Or follow the trend of last five years . .

Take more exams and chase more paper qualifications . In the end still no job .

I thought Sinkies very Kiasu 1? Why show Sinkapura in the 50s and 60s? Why not show modern Finland/Switzerland/Denmark ? Why compare with 3rd world condition rather then 1st world? Is he actually hinting that we should again lower our expectation? As long as we don't go back to the 50s and 60s its alright? ;)

i think financially most people wont have a problem, esp the singles, as they can get by with maybe $600-$1200 if they are thrifty, have no sick parents and no intetntion to get married. Not difficult to find jobs that pay $600-$1200...

The social costs cant be ignored though. Lets say now I am 30, male, and want to get married...how? firstly, no jobs mean no financial security, no financial security means no money, no money quite difficult to attract girls, no girls means no babies, no babies means more FTs...anyhow get married without money, higher chances of divorce. stressful lifestyle, e.g. balance 2 jobs, less sex, higher chances of divorce also...lets be reasonable, I am sure every girl out here wants a husband who is financially viable minimally, if not get married for what? Look at our parents generation, many manage to get by with the husband working and the wife working part time and/or staying at home to take care of the kids...I am also sure all things being reasonable, many will want to have kids as well...

This is the area where many fail to exploit the loopholes in our system...instead they spend time complaining...unlike the FTs who persistently find the loopholes and how to exploit them to their advantage...If now I offer nursing courses for these people, 2 years study and 3 years bond, $800 per month average for the bond period and $2000 per month when working, do you think anyone will take up the offer? Excuses heard usually (1.) dont want to work shift (2.) nursing is dirty, i cannot stand the sight of blood and shit (3.) i get sick easily (4.) bond means employer can exploit me (5.) etc...at the end of the rainbow, one will have an iron rice bowl, enough skills to start up own business (e.g. geriatrics market) and also to migrate...i am sure not many will take up the offer...

Oh yes, how can I forget. Obviously, our PM loves Singapore in the 50s and 60s so much that he wants Singapore to go back to those days again...
