<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->Beijing - Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has been named by the Global Times daily as one of the 60 most influential foreigners in shaping China's last 60 years.
The report said that MM Lee 'promoted China' as part of his contributions to the country's development.
The 60 names were shortlisted through an online poll on the newspaper's Chinese website and recommendations from academics. The list was created in commemoration of China's 60th National Day, which falls on Oct 1.
Other Asians who were shortlisted include former Japan prime minister Kakuei Tanaka, who normalised bilateral relations in the 1970s, founder of modern Vietnam Ho Chi Minh and former North Korean leader Kim Il Sung.
Most of the foreigners on the list, however, were from the West. They include political figures (former US president Harry Truman, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former Soviet Union leader Josef Stalin), scientists (Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein) and philosophers (Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels). Business leaders like Mr Warren Buffett, Mr Bill Gates and Mr George Soros were picked as well.
