A 'wake-up call'
By Zakir Hussain, Political Correspondent

'My worry is, I don't see a sense of urgency in the community about this problem,' Minister Yaacob Ibrahim said in an interview and declared that he was embarrassed by the reports of Malay fathers and step-fathers charged with killing these young children. -- ST FILE PHOTO

This tragedy and a few others involving young Malay children from broken homes so distress Minister Yaacob Ibrahim that over the weekend, he cried out to his community to 'be worried'.
'My worry is, I don't see a sense of urgency in the community about this problem,' he said in a candid interview during which he openly declared that he was embarrassed, even 'malu' (Malay for ashamed), by the reports of Malay fathers and step-fathers charged with killing these young children.
His despair is almost palpable as he spelt out the dangers of ignoring this longstanding problem of broken homes in the Malay community, saying it will lead to an underclass.
'Once it emerges... you can never remove it,' he said as he expressed his fear of the situation deteriorating and going the way of the Blacks and Hispanics in the United States.
He said this in an interview with Malay daily Berita Harian following a meeting with 80 young Malay-Muslim professionals on Saturday to brainstorm ideas to tackle problems facing the community.

U know, this Yacock is a fucking moron, very sad to see taxpayers' money wasted on his large salary. Malay parents committing infanticide is the least of his worries. How often does it happen? Everyday? Every week? If he is so concerned about the MAt community, he should ask the question of why they are getting more and more marginalised in the economy of the country. U cannot say that Mats are stupid, I have met some smart ones doing business in Malaysia and making a lot of money. U never see a Mat in high SAF or govt. position, and in fact many such jobs are denied to them regardless of how qualified they are. He should not compare Mats to blacks and hsipanics in the US. The mat treatment here is much worse. In the US a black can become the top US general, and the President. Mats got this opportunity meh?Yacock should get his priority straight and fight for his own race.

Boy's death: Murder charge reduced
By Khushwant Singh

A FAMILY friend who kicked and stamped on a six-year-old boy he was looking after has avoided a potential death sentence, after the prosecution decided not to proceed with a murder charge against him.
Mohammad Johan Rashid - who had been due to stand trial in the High Court on Monday - now faces a maximum of life in prison after pleading guilty to the lesser charge of causing death.
It is understood that the murder charge was reduced because the killing was not premeditated.
The 32-year-old kicked and stamped on Muhammad Nor Rashidy Rahmat five or six times - fracturing his ribs and lacerating his right lung - after the boy asked to go home, the court heard.
When he discovered the boy was dead, he stuffed the body in a trolley bag and hid it in bushes near the Kallang River.
Deputy Public Prosecutor David Khoo told the court that Mohammad Johan and his girlfriend at the time, Siti Roudha Amir, often looked after Rashidy and his one-year-old brother.

Bastard! No parent should ever go through this. I hope the murder gets 'gang bang' in prison.

Now you appreciate the "death sentence" in Singapore. I hope lawyer Ravi would not defend that bastard man....hang him......not torture him by canning him in his cock and put salt and hot chilli....let him suffer for 6 years (the age of the child) then hang him.....hang his parents first in front of his eyes!

Talk cock! Just born yesterday isit?

We had a Malay President long before US even got a black governor! We got Malay ministers like Yacob, Ahmad Mattar and others - one even became the Speaker of Parliament!

Opportunities? There are plenty, including subsidies in education - a long and arduous road which requires hard work, determination and perseverance to success; civil service jobs, equal opportunities in many areas including sports in national teams, etc. No easy way out.

Look at the many MPVs, and even landed houses in JB owned by the more successful - even the other races couldn't afford.

Opportunities are plenty - some missed them, some didn't seize them and some ignored them.
Who do you want to blame? Look at his auntie closely and you may get a clue.

Jailed 16 years, caned for kicking child to death

By Khushwant Singh

Mohammad Johan Rashid, 32, was spared a potential death sentence on March 21, when his murder charge was reduced to culpable homicide. -- ST PHOTO: WONG KWAI CHOW

A FAMILY friend, who in November 2009 kicked and stomped on a six-year-old till he died, was sentenced to 16 years in jail and eight strokes of the cane by the High Court.

Mohammad Johan Rashid, 32, was spared a potential death sentence on March 21, when his murder charge was reduced to culpable homicide.

He pleaded guilty and on Monday, he escaped being imprisoned for life after his lawyers argued that the unemployed man was truly affectionate towards Muhammad Nor Rashidy Rahmat and had not meant him any permanent harm.

Mr Thangavelu said his client merely intended to punish the child for talking back to him and pointed out that investigations revealed that 'mild to moderate force' was used on the boy.

However, that was enough to fracture 10 ribs and lacerate a lung.

Mohammad Johan and his girlfriend, Siti Roudha Amir, would often came over to look after Rashidy and his then one-year-old brother, who stayed in a flat in Kallang Bahru with their maternal grandmother, Madam Asmah Asmoneh, 58, a hawker stall assistant.

The boys' parents are in jail for drug consumption.

Mohammad Johan and Siti slept over at the flat on Nov 17, 2009.

The next day, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) raided the flat and arrested Siti.

Her boyfriend, who was out with Rashidy at that time, was wanted for evading his urine tests and was afraid that CNB officers were waiting for him to return.

He and the boy went to put up in Siti's rented flat in Mei Ling Street but when the child insisted on going home two days later and started talking back, Mohammad Johan set upon the boy to teach him a lesson.

Asking for a sentence of more than 15 years, deputy public prosecutor David Khoo said a 'vulnerable and defenceless child' had been attacked in a vicious, cruel manner without any justification whatsoever.

Madam Asmah told reporters in Malay: 'He took the life of a young boy and I do not understand why the charge was reduced in the first place.

That man should be made to pay for what he did.'
