Miss Singapore Universe 2011 Finalists

The official grooming instructor has spoken, and she is impressed with the finalists of this year's Miss Singapore Universe.

Ms Ida Ong, who is the owner of modelling agency/grooming college IMP International, was the one who discovered Caldecott queens Zoe Tay and Fann Wong in the 1980s.

Ong, returning from her hiatus of more than a decade, has expressed her confidence in this year's contestants.

She thinks that Singapore may have a shot at this year's Miss Universe after the contestants undergo her training, which, according to her, involves quite a bit of reprimanding.

This year's Miss Universe pageant will take place in Brazil on September 12.

We take a closer look at the 10 Miss Singapore Universe 2011 hopefuls.

Shn Juay is one of the 10 finalists vying for the title of Miss Singapore Universe 2011. She was Miss Earth Singapore in 2007.

Amanda Leong, 18, has never had a boyfriend and has to be home by 10pm everyday, seek permission from her "very conservative" parents if she wants to stay out till midnight.

She stands at 1.71m and is currently studying to be a lawyer. She also loves performing Broadway songs and has written her own compositions. (Photo:TNP)

Shermine Tjoa, 22, works part-time as an actress and model to pay for her own education at Kaplan. She aspires to be a kindergarten teacher, and if she wins the pageant, her pet cause would be to help impoverished children in Vietnam. (Photo:TNP)

Valerie Lim, 25, is not a model despite her height of 1.79m. She works as a behaviour therapist dealing with autistic children. She was Miss Singapore Earth 2009. Represented Singapore in Miss Earth 2009 - placed Top 16
