High MOE standards only top 5% can achieve -

Let us take a look at the ridiculous gargantuan task a Sinkie student has to go through in order to get that coveted place in the uni. You must be:

1. Be effectively bilingual in both written and oral skills. This is a MUST. Fail your Mother Tongue, and you can kiss your uni dreams goodbye.

2. Be good in your academic subjects.

3. Be able to take contrasting subjects. That means, you must be good in the hard sciences and the softer humanities subjects.

4. It would be good if you have CCA to support your wonderful academic results. Especially sports.

Now how many students can achieve all the above? Many a time, we have students who are good in all subjects except Mother Tongue. Or maybe a student is good in the hard sciences but weak in humanities. Or the reverse. Or perhaps weak in CCA. Too bad because somehow if you are weak in one area, your chances of a uni place is adversely affected.

But the bar is lowered for foreign students! -

The most ridiculous part of this high standard set by MOE, which only about 5% of the top achievers can attain, is that when it comes to foreign students, the PAPpy govt is so relaxed on them. Many can't even write or communicate in English well enough to be in an English stream uni in the first place. Many of them also struggle in JCs and secondary schools. But not to worry, mad PAP, who have set a gargantuan task for local students are so quick to help these students with tuition funded by tax payers' money!

Say.... why must such a high order be expected from locals, yet the bar is set so low for foreigners, and that too, the foreigners are given funds from tax paying citizens? What is this nonsense which PAP claims we can't afford to have too many grads lest we end up with jobless grads, but at the same ridiculous time, PAP is so liberal in accepting immigrants, on top of funding their children's education right up to uni?

This is infuriating to say the least !

This Heng fella better watch out for lightning especially from Ireland !!:o:rolleyes:

Dumbfuck opposition supporters are talking cock. U look at all the complains from parents right now is the locals are not able to compete with the hardworking foreigners. If the locals spend half that energy from complaining into working hard for the academic results there wouldn't even be a problem with FT. Another case of Loser complaining because of their own incompetence

One good trade for those who are academically weak is selling beef noodles.:o

you have failed to respond to the allegation that its easier for a foreign student to gain admission to our local unis than it is for a local student.

1. Be effectively bilingual in both written and oral skills. This is a MUST. Fail your Mother Tongue, and you can kiss your uni dreams goodbye.

What so difficult about being effectively bilingual? An average Singaporean can master this quite easily. If you can't , it simply means that you are not
academically qualified to enter the Uni. Many have no problems at all. Only a minority have some problems....It's all about priorities and effort.

2. Be good in your academic subjects.

If you are not good in your chosen academic subjects, you do not deserve to go to the Uni....

3. Be able to take contrasting subjects. That means, you must be good in the hard sciences and the softer humanities subjects.

This is a good policy to make the student a more rounded person. More holistic in their approach to life and to their chosen profession. We don't want to produce smart alecs who are robots with no feelings.

4. It would be good if you have CCA to support your wonderful academic results. Especially sports.

This is again a good policy.Sports and ECA help to mould character and to make the student a more rounded person. Physically healthy, emotionally stable and academically excellent.

Singapore has one of the best educational systems in the world!!! Majulah Singapura!!!

Hey moron, do you even know what kind of results the foreign scholars in many of our secondary schools get despite all the tax-payer funded extra lessons given to them?
If you don't, then shut the hell up!

Sporeans can apply to study in a Canadian University by using their "O" levels. I met a Sporean who obtained 2 majors by the time he had to return to do NS. The biggest problem he had was opening a bank account because he was a minor(under 18):D

While there I even met a 12 year old doing Canadian doing a computer science degree. As well as a year old 50 something doing a BA. Over there they are more flexible. They don't have any hang ups on the age thing.

Got a few FTs masters in my company. Can't even write a sentence in proper English. Wonder how they write their dissertation.

Some even qualify as mature students if they don't have the requirements needed to pursue their degree or a certain course. Very flexible. They study for knowledge's sake. Over here, whatever time and $$$ sacrificed must bring in the returns asap.

Yeah lor saw in the news they even came up with a training institute to train hawkers..

It is really unfair to set the bar so low for foreign students sponsored by taxpayers money. Why no parent is complaining to MOE and the minister Heng?

Nowadays study so hard really no point, once come out from university got to fight with all the fake degree holders from India, Pinoy, PRC etc.

For mature students the requirements are not only easier but also FREE.

Many of the students over there are receiving bursaries or scholarships provided by their gov't or some private organisation such as their parents employer. Sporeans do not know it but they are being short changed by the PAP. Why doesn't Spore have any exchange programs with other Universities for local students to study overseas? In Canada the students have access to all kinds of scholarships & exchange programs. Met many students who were going to study in Japan, France, UK,...

I apply to NUS /NTU but did not get in...went to appeal in my number 4 and saw so many foreigners on campus... understand where my opportunity in life go to. After NS, richer friends will same or poorer results than me went overseas to pursue degrees in foreign universities recognised BH civil service. The came back work as professionals. As for myself my family was too poor so I worked a few years in fast food and my eyes was opened to the real Singapore. I was once scolded by an FT manager for 1 hour for filling some forms wrongly after a long day. Before my work life, I always hopeful and optimistic but after I worked a few years it seems for many lower income Singaporeans life is no better than n a 3rd world country or even worse.

Anyway to make a long story short, I gave up on working borrow 30K from my mom to be a trader. That was my mom's life savings if I had failed I do not know whether I would have ended in a reservoir or look for a tall building. It has been 4 yrs I have returned my mom,s money. ?..and survived the rough and tumble of trading. . I consider myself lucky and I am thankful I don't have to go back to work as a low income worker. Despite my ordeal I consider myself fortunate compared with many Singaporeans I have met when working living a life of poverty in one of the worlds most expensive cities.

I voluunteer to help the less either in my own capacity or at charity evsnts....k beleiev it is a duty for everyone who is doing better not to forget those who are left behind. I also believe that a faster pace of change is necessary to carry this country forward that's why I volunteer occasionally for workers party events and take part in opposition rallies and events at hong lim.

I do take issue with the following:

1. Why does the pap govt choose to educate children of foreigners when Singaporeans capable of getting degrees are not allowed into university. Those with rich parents go overseas to get degrees but those of poor families have no chance.

2. Shouldn't the Singaporean govt educated each Singaporean child to the fullest before educating children of foreigners..

Any change in this area is too late for me but I don't want future generations of Singaporeans to be denied opportunity...we must always think about and support other Singaporeans and break free from the selfish mindset of thinking about ourselves. If we continue to let the pap dominate us I sincerely believe life for Singaporeans will get worse for an increasing number of Singaporeans.

foreigners are good for Singapore
you see many Filipinos here
you see many Indonesians here
you see many Indians here
you see many Myanmars here
you see many China nationals here
you see many Thais too...students, business men and others
you see Koreans, Vietnamese,Cambodians, even Nigerians
you some some angmohs here also
Singapore is becoming an international hub
A world class metropolis...are you all not proud?
I am very proud of Singapore...Majulah Singapura!!!

1. government should ensure a place in uni for every NSF who meets the entry criteria. if they want to give spaces to foreigners, they better ensure sufficient places for all.

2. yes. but the PAP hate singaporeans. they would rather have a singapore without singaporeans.
