If nobody died during NS I'd be very worried.
Train hard to fight easy.
Why MINDEF says that family has accept compensation? The top brass in MINDEF should stop it now. Have they not caused enough grief for the family?
Bargain Hen, wtf are you?
He is clueless...just like his counterpart in Benjamin Lim case...absent and silent for a month and await Parliament sitting to get the parliament privileges and protection before making statements.
you think SAF kind of wayang training and simulation will be of any use in real battle, that's naive.![]()
On the contrary realistic training is the bedrock of all successful missions. Training designed to simulate real world conditions ensures that the necessary skills are in place should the need arise.
Of course if training is dumbed down to the point that there is zero risk, then the effort if pretty much wasted. That is why there should be an acceptable mortality rate during peacetime training.
If nobody dies during training then I worry. It means that the training is not effective enough.

We serve NS only because we have to. We didn't sell our lives to MINDEF. If MINDEF treats our lives like dirt, why the hell should we serve the country?
That may be your attitude towards NS but I went through my 2.5 years conscientiously not for MINDEF but for the purpose of defending my family, my close friends and my wealth.
If it were not for our strong defences, Singapore would be a sitting duck in a Muslim sea. NS is not for the PAP. The elite amongst them will be the first to jump ship should war occur. NS is for our loved ones and our assets.
Singapore is kept safe not because of NS, but because of US military power in the Pacific region which prevents smaller fries like our neighbours up north and south from having itchy fingers. If not for US patronage, we can spend 20% of our GDP on defence and it won't make a difference.
Well said! That may be your attitude towards NS but I went through my 2.5 years conscientiously not for MINDEF but for the purpose of defending my family, my close friends and my wealth.

The court is saying that possible death is something citizens will have to accept when performing national duties. Just like firemen and policemen. The fact you are conscripted is neither here nor there. Death in NS during peacetime will always be through some accident. The law covers MINDEF. Not sure if the parents could have sued the officers directly.
Well said!
Almost like a prepared speech for the Minister.
A minister would not include the part about he and his family jumping ship.
More palatable if death was the result of victim's negligence but in this particular case, it was negligence on the part of others entrusted to ensure safety through compliance with whatever SOPs etc. If victim was on a peacekeeping mission and killed by enemy fire, it is a different matter altogether.
Firemen and policemen? Fair enough, they may be killed while on-the-job but that is different if those entrusted to guide them were negligent leading to unnecessary loss of lives.
I opine firemen and policemen operate differently from army boys in training. The latter is under 'controlled' environment and such mishaps should not have taken place.
I say again win google "daryl loh" "navy". Mindef cares. No compensation from SAF accepted, says family of Pte Dominique Sarron Lee
The family of the late Private Dominique Sarron Lee has clarified that they have not accepted any compensation from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), following a statement released by the Singapore Army yesterday (Mar 7).
In a post published on a Facebook page dedicated to Lee on Mar 8, the family said: "(We have) repeatedly rejected offers from MINDEF/SAF to discuss monetary compensation.
"We have only accepted a funeral grant to defray the cost of the funeral, on the same day Dominique was sent back home in a coffin.
"This grant, according to the SAF, is not part of the compensation.
