One person has been killed and two others wounded as a knife-wielding man went on a rampage in a busy street in central Melbourne. Police have opened a counter-terrorism probe following the assault.
Victoria Police responded to a major incident on Friday afternoon on Bourke Street in Melbourne, Australia. The officers were initially called in over reports of a fire, but when they arrived and got out of the car, they were “confronted by a male brandishing a knife and threatening them,” Superintendent David Clayton told reporters.

The perpetrator was known to police and the federal intelligence authorities, Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton told media.

“What we know so far about the individual… from what we know we are treating this as a terrorism incident,” Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton told media.
The suspect's family is also “well known” to authorities from a “terrorism perspective.”
Elaborating on the details about the man’s identity, officials said he came to Australia from Somalia in the 1990s, yet stopped short of giving more information.
It is reported that a man burned a car before starting his knife attack. Some witnesses claim they saw a car driving at high speed and crashing after missing a tram, according to ABC. Others reportedly saw the suspected driver getting out of the car and throwing “something like a bomb” inside before it caught fire.
There is still no clear understanding of how the fire in the car started, though police revealed the attacker had “barbecue-style gas cylinders” inside the vehicle.

Videos with the burning vehicle in the background have surfaced online, apparently showing the moment officers approached the suspect. The attacker is seen viciously hitting at the officers, who at first tried to calm him down.

A total of three people were stabbed during the assault, police revealed during a press conference. One of the victims later succumbed to the injuries, while two others are still receiving treatment.
The suspect succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, police confirmed later on Friday.
Witnesses say they heard one bang or multiple bangs and gunshots in the area, which was subsequently put on lock down.
No terrorist link has been made so far, according to police. However, the investigation is still in the early stages and the authorities said they would “keep an open mind as to whether there is any link.”

Stabbings are not frequently reported in Australia. However, its European allies, including the UK, Germany, and France, have faced a wave of such attacks in recent years. One of the latest stabbings occurred in Ravensburg, in southwestern Germany in September, which left several people injured. Less than two weeks before the incident in Germany, a knife-wielding man was arrested after he assaulted a police officer in Brussels.

African Gangs of Muslims Attack Melbourne Again
Australians have been left terrorised after 100 African Muslim youths attacked a train in Melbourne.
Police were called to a park in Melbourne just after 7.30pm after receiving reports of a yet another serious assault.
The Africans then proceeded to attack the train station and train, threatening commuters and creating chaos.
As usual with the so called African Refugees their criminal behavior went mostly ignored by Police.
Politicians in Australia are too weak to tackle the issue for fear of being called racists.

Even mentioning African gangs in Australia is now considered politically incorrect, but however the media try to hide the problem African gangs are a real problem and the only answer is deportation.
In August, police were involved in wild confrontation with out-of-control youths after clashing in the suburb of Taylors Hill.
Residents were left fearing for their lives, hiding inside their homes as the gang took over the residential streets.

Yes.
The lying mainstream media want us to think African gangs are just regular Australians. The term "African-Australian" makes no sense, and is a smear against real Australians, meaning those who have only Au citizenship, and Aboriginals, who are the only Australian race.

Sudanese-born people in Victoria constituted less than 0.1 per cent of the population, but were responsible for “well over” 1 per cent of all crimes committed in that state, and were 57 times more likely to commit aggravated robbery than the general population.
The Sudanese “refugees” are a problem that cannot be fixed while bleeding heart liberal judges refuse to deport them and refuse to sentence them to prison. There has to be legislation that if a refugee is charged with an offense they should immediately be listed for deportation with an option to appeal.
The African gang situation even the inept former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has had to admit there is a serious issue of violent African crime in Victoria, saying you would “have to be walking around with your hands over your ears” not to hear the “real concerns” about Sudanese gangs in Melbourne.

“You’re not going to make it go away by pretending it doesn’t exist,” he said.
“At some point you’ve got to be fair dinkum. You’ve got to acknowledge there is a concern.”
But, Turnbull, not the Victorian Government is in charge of the immigration policy, he has the ability to change laws to deport offenders.

That sounds like a terrifying situation. What is being done about these African gangs? It's so sad when people have lived in Melbourne for years and are then forced to share their country with these people who are not civilized.

Refugees Burn Sweden, Australia is Next

Refugees Burn Sweden, Australia is Next
Swedish authorities much like their counterparts in Australia have long denied the problems associated with the massive influx of refugees.
Like Australia’s “No African Gang Problem” Sweden too ignored all of the early indications of trouble, the massive spike in crime, women not safe on the streets in some areas, were all swept under the rug.
But now Sweden is burning and Australia will be next.

More than 1,800 cars have been set on fire in Sweden since January and a record was reached this week as more than 100 were torched over several hours. After every incident, the same pantomime plays out, as if for the first time.
In this spectacle every actor, from righteous government politicians to confused police officers to concerned academics has their own part, played always with a straight face. While the latest incident provides a good case study, these steps can be transposed from Sweden to almost any Western European country, from a car burning to a mass riot to a gang rape.

You missed out the most questionable part of his book. Murray didn’t mention the fact that crime had been reclassified in Sweden from 1975 to 2014.

This is especially relevant when he states that the number of reported rapes went from 421 in 1975 to 6620 in 2014.

“I am angry about this, for real,” the Prime Minister assured the audience during a radio interview. “I ask the perpetrators, What the hell are you doing?” he howled, as if he was personally interrogating them in the basement of his Stockholm palace.
Lofven appears to be living quite a tempestuous existence. In the past two years alone he felt “a great anger” over reports of Afghan refugees attacking women at music festivals, “outraged” about an attack on a synagogue in Gothenburg, and “furious” about sharia patrols on Swedish streets.

If only there was a productive outlet for this man’s emotions, like deporting refugees.
To no one’s astonishment after all the next-level theorizing, the suspects, arrested on Wednesday, turned out to be three male acquaintances, aged between 16 and 21, one of whom was trying to enter Turkey possibly to join ISIS, just as he was nabbed.
What punishment will they face for such a wanton act of destruction, worth millions of dollars damage and collective months of inconvenience? Sweden tightened up its laws last year, and now a theoretical six-year term is possible.

As a reference point, the three synagogue attackers that so “outraged” Lofven were sentenced to between 15 months and 2 years in prison. Despite none of them being Swedish citizens, two had their refugee residence permits extended, and were allowed to stay in the country.
Would a similar sentence for car burning be a deterrent? Perhaps, if all arson cases that that didn’t make the international news would be pursued with the same vigor.
The police and opposition parties agree that the resources don’t exist for that, and promising to hire more cops has become a key pre-election pledge. Alternatively, the use of drones to search for arsonists may be stepped up, handy in areas where police don’t go in anyway.
As this scenario has played out over and over immigration has exploded (nearly one-in-five residents of the country were not born in Sweden) violent and anti-woman crime rates have spiked, and the number of “vulnerable” areas designated by the police keeps going up.
And all the same, the government hasn’t changed. The Socialists have controlled Sweden for most of its post-War history, but will face a dead heart against a center-right coalition for the September 9 vote, and the surging Sweden Democrats, who may find themselves too short of friends to form a government, will at least provide an alternative voice to the stale puppetry show.
But to get Sweden to premiere a new play – hopefully, one that is more sincere and authentic – will require a deeper societal change, and not necessarily a voluntary one.

Police were confronted by a knife-wielding man after responding to a car fire.

As a ute blazed in the background, a man flailed a long knife at police officers, who backpedalled desperately. Bystanders jumped into the fray, one wielding a chair, another a shopping trolley, before the assailant was finally neutralised.
This scene of confusion and chaos unfolded on Melbourne's busy Bourke Street on Friday afternoon, as thousands finished their working weeks and spilled out onto the streets.
The incident unfolded in a matter of seconds, but it was captured from a number of different angles by bystanders on their smartphones.

An explosion is heard on Bourke Street at 4:10pm.
"I kept watching," said witness Tony Nguyen, after what he described as a "car bomb".
"I didn't realise everyone was running and that's when a really tall black guy was near the car, but then someone was approaching the car and he was checking to see if everyone was OK, and that's when the man stabbed the other guy and that's when I ran."

Two police officers arrive almost instantly to find a blue utility vehicle ablaze, with flames shooting high into the air.
A tall man wearing a long black coat and holding a knife has already stabbed three people.
They park their police car just behind the burning ute and are immediately attacked.

The assailant punches one of the officers through the car window. They get out of the vehicle and the man lunges at them, swinging a knife. They duck and sway, backing away, moving around a signpost to avoid the blows.
A man wearing a black shirt and khaki pants involved himself in the fracas, using a trolley to attempt to run into the attacker.

Bystanders were yelling out, "just shoot him, just shoot him!" as officers tried to avoid being stabbed.

The police can be seen backtracking to avoid the flailing attacker as the trolley-pusher tries to ram him head-on — he falls over in the process, then gets up again and takes control of the trolley once more.
He then launches the trolley at the man, who continues to pursue the policemen — but the trolley misses and crashes over.
As the attacker pursues police across the street and they back away, the man recovers his trolley and follows.
Another bystander, wearing a chequered shirt, also moves in from the side to help, as does a third man in a blue jacket wielding a chair.

He goes down and is leapt upon by the two policemen — just as another unmarked police vehicle arrives on the scene and a small explosion flares up from the burning truck.
The two officers apprehend the attacker after a brief struggle on the ground. They had suffered a few minor injuries from the blade and the earlier punch.

People on Bourke Street describe their shock at what sounded like a "bomb" exploding before seeing a man stab a bystander.

"He was facedown, facedown, and there was a lot of blood."
Police would later say he had died at the scene.
The attacker also died half an hour after being taken to hospital under guard. Police are treating it as a terrorist incident.
"In the midst of tragedy, you can find such pride in the work of by-standers to come to the aid of others," said Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.
"We'll not, as a city and a state, be defined by this act of evil. We'll simply refuse to do that."

MELBOURNE: A Somali-born man who set fire to a truck laden with gas cylinders in the centre of Melbourne and fatally stabbed one person was inspired by Islamic State but did not have direct links with the group, Australian police said on Saturday.
Police identified the man responsible for Friday's attack as 30-year-old Hassan Khalif Shire Ali and said he was radicalised and inspired by the militant group's propaganda. He was shot by police and died in hospital.

Police said Shire Ali's Australian passport was cancelled in 2015 after an intelligence report he planned to travel to Syria, but an assessment was made that while he had radical views, he posed no threat to national security.
Islamic State had claimed responsibility for the attack, which came two days before Remembrance Day, marking 100 years since the end of World War One, without providing any evidence.
"I think it is fair to say he (Shire Ali) was inspired. He was radicalised," Australian Federal Police Acting Deputy Commissioner Ian McCartney told reporters in Melbourne.
"We're not saying there was direct contact. We're saying it was more from an inspiration perspective."

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the national terrorism advisory remained at "probable", the midpoint of a five-tier system, and told reporters in Sydney that radical Islam was the issue.
"I need to call it out. Radical, violent, extremist Islam that opposes our very way of life. I am the first to protect religious freedom in this country, but that also means I must be the first to call out religious extremism," he said.
RUSH HOUR ATTACK
Friday's attack began just before the evening rush hour and lasted only minutes. Shire Ali stabbed bystanders and attacked police while his utility truck carrying barbecue gas cylinders burned on busy Bourke Street, (https://tmsnrt.rs/2Qu5stX)
The cylinders did not explode and the fire was put out in 10 minutes, by which point the attack was over, though not before one man was fatally stabbed.
Police said he was a 74-year-old man who worked in the city, but did not release his name. Local media identified him as a restaurant owner.
"This shouldn't happen in a city like Melbourne," one witness who had returned to the scene on Saturday told Reuters, crying. "I just want to forget it," she said.
Video posted to Twitter and broadcast on television showed Shire Ali swinging a knife at two police officers, while the truck burned in the background, before he collapsed when one shot him in the chest.
Victoria state police said counter-terrorism investigators were searching two properties in suburban Melbourne in connection with the attack, but there was no immediate word on what the searches yielded.
At one, a modest one-storey brick house on the city's western fringe, armed officers wearing masks stood guard outside.
Bourke Street also reopened on Saturday morning, and a Reuters reporter said there was an increased police presence in the area.
A staunch U.S. ally, Australia has been on alert for such violence after a Sydney cafe siege in 2014, and its intelligence agencies have stepped up scrutiny. Victoria Police Commissioner Graham Ashton said there was no warning of the latest attack.
He said there was no longer a threat to the public, but that security would be boosted at horse races and Remembrance Day memorials over the weekend.
Authorities say Australia's vigilance has helped foil at least a dozen plots, including a plan to attack Melbourne at Christmas in 2016 and a plan to blow up a flight from Sydney to Abu Dhabi using a bomb disguised as a meat mincer.
Two hostages were killed during the 17-hour Sydney cafe siege by a "lone wolf" gunman who was inspired by Islamic State militants.

Police are attacked by a knifeman in Melbourne
ABC NEWS
The Islamic State-inspired terrorist who carried out yesterday's fatal stabbing in Bourke Street had his passport cancelled due to fears he planned to travel to Syria in 2015, the Australian Federal Police says.
Key points:
  • Three people were stabbed in the attack; one died on the scene and two are in hospital
  • Properties in Werribee and Meadow Heights have been raided by police
  • Authorities said there would be an increased police presence around the Melbourne CBD
Despite being known to hold radical views, Hassan Khalif Shire Ali was not actively monitored and was assessed as not posing a threat to the community.
The revelations came as Victoria Police raided properties in Werribee and Meadow Heights in Melbourne's west and north following yesterday's attack in the CBD, in which Shire Ali was shot dead after taking the life of another man.

  • BeyondBlue 1300 224 636
The Somali-born Shire Ali, 30, crashed his vehicle loaded with gas bottles in the Melbourne CBD and stabbed three people before he was shot by police and died in hospital.
The ABC understands he is also known as Hassan Ali and Hassan Khalif, and recently moved from his family's Werribee home because of problems with substance abuse.
His family is well-known and respected within the Somali community in the region, and attended the Virgin Mary Mosque in Hoppers Crossing.
PHOTO Police raided a home in Werribee this morning.

It is believed Shire Ali most commonly attended prayer in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Shire Ali has previously been investigated for his association with others linked to terrorism.
Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said he believed the suspect moved to Australia from Somalia in the 1990s.
Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack and police confirmed this morning that Shire Ali was "inspired" and "radicalised" by IS.

"This individual did hold radical views and his passport was cancelled in 2015, when ASIO assessed he planned to travel to Syria," AFP Assistant Commissioner Ian McCartney said.
"He was never a target of the JCTT [Joint Counter-Terrorism Taskforce] in terms of the investigations we undertake.
"The assessment was made that whilst he had radicalised views, he didn't pose a threat to the national security environment.
"Obviously, the circumstances of how and when he moved from having these radicalised view to carrying out this attack yesterday will be a key focus of the investigation we undertake through the JCTT."

Mr Ashton last night confirmed Shire Ali died in hospital.
One man — Sisto Malaspina, the 74-year-old co-owner of the iconic Melbourne restaurant Pellegrini's Espresso Bar — died at the scene after being stabbed.
Fifty-eight-year-old Tasmanian Rod Patterson — described as "the sort of man who would be first to step in and try to help"— is in a stable condition in Royal Melbourne Hospital following surgery for lacerations, as is a 24-year-old Hampton Park man.
Toxicology results for Shire Ali are expected in the next few days.

Authorities said there would be an increased police presence around the Melbourne CBD and at major events in the coming days so the public could feel comfortable going about their business, but they did not believe there was an ongoing threat.
Witnesses describe attack

People on Bourke Street describe their shock at what sounded like a "bomb" exploding before seeing a man stab a bystander.
Mr Ashton said the Myer department store's Christmas windows opened last night and other key events were being held this weekend, and he said there was "no ongoing threat at the moment".
"We have a number of events going on in Melbourne, Stakes day at Flemington, soccer at AAMI Stadium and also Remembrance Day so we are doing security reassessments in light of those events.
"At this stage we are encouraging people to go to those events and there will be additional police over the weekend."
Police said the constables involved were junior officers, with the constable who fired the fatal shot graduating three months ago.

"Victorians can be assured that every member of Victoria Police … are equal to the task and will do everything they can in any circumstance to keep Victorians safe."
Victoria's Opposition Leader Matthew Guy also denounced the attack.
"I'll never accept that violent extremism should be a way of life for a big city like Melbourne," he said.
"All the resources of our state should be directed towards keeping Victorians safe. Victorians would say we do not have to live like this."
Prime Minister Scott Morrison attacked the "radical and dangerous ideology of extremist Islam" that inspired Shire Ali.
"I am the first to protect religious freedom in this country, but that also means I must be the first to call out religious extremism," he said.
"Religious extremism takes many forms around the world and no religion is immune from it. That is the lesson of history and sadly modern history as well.
"But here in Australia, we would be kidding ourselves if we did not call out the fact that the greatest threat of religious extremism in this country is the radical and dangerous ideology of extremist Islam."
Mr Morrison said Australia's terror threat level would remain at "probable".
The Prime Minister was briefed by ASIO, the AFP and the Home Affairs Department in Canberra on Saturday.

'Don't let fear dictate'
Road blocks in the area are expected to remain in place until at least mid-morning and members of the public are asked to avoid the area on Bourke Street between Russell and Swanston streets.
Police have asked the public to submit any images or video footage of the attack to help them with their investigation.
Authorities said it was normal for people to have strong emotional or physical reactions after such a distressing or frightening event, and people should seek help from their doctor or by calling a helpline if they needed support.
How to cope with traumatic news

The era of 24-hour news brings traumatic events directly into everyone's lives. Here's how that can affect people and some strategies for coping.
Melbourne's Lord Mayor Sally Capp sought to reassure the public and praised the police for their swift response.
"Melburnians should feel reassured of the swift reaction from our police and emergency services who were so quickly, effectively and bravely at the scene dealing with the situation and minimising harm to the public," she said.
"I hope that we can pull together as a community to really support each other."

Trauma specialist Rob Gordon urged the Melbourne community to learn from the incident and be aware of dangers, but to also not let fear dictate.
"We need to understand and become familiar with risks and hazards," Dr Gordon said.
"Unfortunately the present time has got hazards of this sort where people take in to their minds to attack innocent people.
"It's very important to recognise that we live with all sorts of hazards but we do it successfully by being aware and understanding and careful.
"Fear doesn't help you get more prepared — it makes you jump at shadows and then you tend to get overwhelmed or exhausted and then you shut off."
