SINGAPORE: The "Just For Laughs" festival has become world-renowned for its brand of comedy extravaganza and is big business.

And thanks to MediaCorp, it will now be getting an Asian flavour.

Asia's leading broadcaster has entered into an exclusive agreement to distribute "Just For Laughs" for the Asian market.

"Just For Laughs" will be heavily involved in MediaCorp TV's first season.

After that, the station will continue production independently in Singapore and other Asian countries.

It takes 25 takes for just one gag and that equates to some six hours of filming. Altogether, there are about 220 gags for a season's 13-episodes. - CNA/vm

if dey try in sg, sure fail 1 la ...

in sg, ppl oni want 2 laff @ others (otherwise how can dey b betta dan others?) ... if dey r laffed @, dey wil show or-lu-lu face 2 ze camera ...

tot last time got candid camera or sumting lidat? ... it was a failure wat ...

Sure fail. No one will allow themself to show it on TV. Mediacock need agreement/signature before the clip/video put on the TV.
Tell your freinds/family/all people that they can sue the Mediacock if they have never sign the paper that allow them to show it on media.

How many remember "Gotcha you"

Why then bother with "Just for Laughs

They should just stick to food shows or just axe mediacorpse & let Sporeans watch Malaysian TV.

Sure fail lah

Sinkaporeans can't laugh at themselves

Imagine if they pull a prank and make Ah Beng or a Sinkie Bitch lose face in public...

I predict the producers will give up on sinkaporeans and show them play pranks on foreign tourists at sentosa only

better not ...

singapore is not a safe & altruistic society like canada ...

even when theres an accident or a robbery, sinkees stand around to gawk ... oh i thought mediacorpse was there to 'pai xi' (shooting movie) is the lame excuse sinkees give for their inaction during an emergency ...

now with 'just for laughs' ... all the more these idiots won't know when a situation is real or when its just a show (pai xi) ...

Mustn't forget the classics ; Masters of the sea, VR man,... Why not just have reruns of these classics instead of wasting money trying to recreat what has already been done better in other countries

One of the worst cases of franchising failure would be The Weakest Link

I had watched the Australian version and liked the format.... But I bet the producers did not expect sinkaporeans to play out kiasuism on prime time slot!

Contestants were supposed to vote out the WEAKEST player to grow the prize pot... then work against the smart ones towards the end to win everything.

But kiasu sinkies voted out the smartest ones right from the go. Nothing to watch!

Sinkies are too used to walkovers.... when given the power to vote they don't know how to ;)

Yeah sinkies are always voting for the wrong fuckers.. Sad reality huh? :D

Yes its sad, know alot of people who have left, locals & PR :(

Spore used to be an ok place but the 'new guard' has turned it into some kind of hell.

i think mediacork has found the formula to fail. firstly kudos to them for coming up with such un-original idea - to copy something and not bothering to think of something original and applicable to the culture of Asia.

Asians are typically conservative and do not like to "lose face" especially in public. And there will be dispute regarding whether certain gags are deemed crossing the line or simply invasion of privacy. It works in ang moh countries because they are more open and dun mind making a laugh - just ask anyone on the street to sing a song impromptu - Asians will not claiming pai seh....but ask an ang moh, he will most readily sing. Its the cultural difference.

So, I can forsee, the Asian version will feature almost predominantly - an ang moh host with a SPG. Participants of the gag will be: ang mohs or SPGs with ang moh boyfriends or gags are so lame that you dun noe whether to yawn or swear.

I will suggest, if mediacork really like to copy -bring in their version of the late night talk shows (like David Letterman or John Leno or Larry King). Or those Jap or Korean late night adult show - for sure that will boost the birth rate of Singapore and viewership of mediacork.

This kind of harmless programmes, you can trust Mediacorp to waste our money producing. Why not try to create something like the "Yes Minister" series to poke fun at our government policies and civil service? If they dare, then I say they are deserving of my respect.

WE probably have to wait an eternity. Luckily we still have our Mr Brown Shows! See? There they also didnt give "Mr Brown" any peace.

Please! No more reruns!

Just for Laughs is from Montreal, Canada, where the people are generally happy and enjoy a high standard of living. In sickapore people are always stressed and miserable. Playing gags on them is going to send them over the edge. Even for myself, I get annoyed by little things like people bumping me on the MRT after a hard day. Get ready to see 'Sinkees on the rampage - caught on tape!'
