There was some talk on another thread about the Matador anti tank missile in relation to the Carl Gustav recoilless rifle. I want to talk about the Matador missile and how it is a typical example of the way the PAP enriches its cronies and groupies and how PAP finds jobs on useless and unnecessary projects to reward its loyal followers at the expense of taxpayer money.
The background of the Matador can be traced to the Armbrust anti tank rocket, which many of us here are familiar with. In its day, the Armbrust was more then a serviceable weapon against the armour of those days, made by MBB of West Germany. Then Chartered Industries (CIS), bought the entire manufacturing rights to the Armbrust and produced it here in Singapore 1988, by which time the Armbrust was starting to be phased out by the Germans. Export sales of the Armbrust were not the greatest, with many 3rd world countries like Brunei, Cambodia, Chile, etc operating it. I supposed the market in those days were dominated by the much cheaper RPG-7 or the US LAW (which we also used in the SAF).
When the neighbouring armour started getting better, aka PT-91, the Armbrust was hopelessly obsolete. By now, CIS has become ST Kinetics. The SAF needed a more modern anti tank man portable weapon. This is where the PAP pigs come in. Instead of buying off the shelf from any of a number of proven and effective anti tank weapons out there eg. RPG-29 or RPG-27, US made Javelin, various versions of Dynamit Nobel Panzerfaust, Israel’s IMI B-300, US/Swedish SAAB AT-4, etc. and they decided to reinvent the wheel and develop their own anti tank weapon.
Despite all the experience of manufacturing the Armbrust, they had no clue how to improve on it, adapt a tandem warhead to it, etc. They went back to Germany and asked MBB (now Dynamic Nobel) to co-develop it with them. They also involved the Jews of Rafael in to do the warheads. Of course, on the Singapore side, ST Kinetics could not go it alone despite all these cooks in the pot because DSTA had to be involved and supposed became the prime contractor in this little farce. So, we had a grand total of 4 companies reinventing the wheel to develop a man potable anti tank weapon, that is not as good as some that is already available. Why do these western and jew companies do it? When they can fleece ST and DSTA, why not? They must have been laughing all the way the bank and wondering with all the decades of experience making the Armbrust, they couldn’t develop an improve version?
Well, the PAP has to feed all its pigs from the DSTA, ST, and the SAF mid and higher ranked officers involved in the Matador project. Some people got taken care off. The worse thing that has happened is despite being the initiator of this project, Dynamic Nobel has somehow retained sole manufacturing rights. I mean, why isn’t ST making it here? Sales of the Matador has been slow to say the least, outside of Zikapore. Germany has only ordered 1000 despite the damn thing being build in their own country. The Jews have ordered some, the brits have ordered a small batch. Other then these countries, sales have been to shitholes like Vietnam and Slovenia. Why could not the supposedly smart assholes at DSTA make it a condition that the manufacturing happen here. Why could ST not simply here some engineers from germany or Israel and develop the Matador in house? Or better still, why not save the taxpayer all the money used to develop the Matador by simply buying off the shelf? How much spend will never be revealed. PAP meritocracy or PAP taking care of its PIGS?
