OYK encourages everyone to get vaccinated.

Ong Ye Kung

10 hrs·

More than 7 in 10 are now fully #vaccinated. If you are 12 years old and above and unvaccinated, starting today, you can walk in to any of our vaccination centres to get your jab. No appointment needed, no age requirement.
We have 11 vaccination centres offering the Moderna vaccine, and 26 vaccination centres offering the Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty vaccine. They are all conveniently located near your homes.
It’s now easier and faster to get a jab. Spread the word, to move forward.
Short-term visit pass holders who have been living in Singapore have been asking if they can get vaccinated. We will be able to, very soon. Ministry of Health, Singapore will announce details.

OYK answers some questions.

My answers to some top-of-mind questions after dine-in resumed yesterday.
1️⃣ If I cannot take the vaccine, how can I join my family for meals at restaurants?
Take a PET (pre-event test) at an MOH approved test provider <go.gov.sg/swabproviders>. It costs about $20, valid for 24 hours. But that merely shows you are not likely to have the virus. It does not protect you from being infected. So please be careful.
2️⃣ What about children 12 and below who cannot be vaccinated yet, can they join in?
As long as they are from the same household, children 12 and below can join the dine-in group of up to 5.
3️⃣ What should I do next if I have allergic reactions after taking the first dose?
You will be invited to take the Sinovac. Two doses and two weeks later, you will be considered fully vaccinated.
If you have not been invited, go to any vaccination centre to verify that you cannot receive the second dose due to the allergy, and an SMS invite will be sent to you.

4️⃣ But if I do not want to take Sinovac, when will there be other non-mRNA vaccines that I can consider?

We have also secured Novavax, supplies are expected to start arriving before the end of this year.

5️⃣ What if my vaccination was from overseas?

Go to a clinic at the following link <go.gov.sg/clinicsforserology>. Present your overseas vaccination records, and get a serology test. Once positive (i.e. you have antibodies), your overseas vaccination records will be uploaded into HealthHub and TraceTogether app.

If you took a Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty or Moderna vaccine, this update will take about two days after your medical provider has submitted the details into the National Immunisation Registry.

If you took other WHO EUL vaccines (eg AstraZeneca, Janssen, Sinopharm, Sinovac), the records will be reflected on HH app for now. We are working on uploading to TT app as well, and this will be ready by end August.

6️⃣ What happens if someone uses another person’s certificate?

Don’t do that. We are aware such illegal practices are going on. The authorities will enforce against this, and offenders will face severe penalty. It is not worth it. Take a PET if you have to attend a dinner or event.

Severe penalty for using someone else’s vaccine cert: Minister

Ong Ye Kung urges those not vaccinated to take a pre-event test if they have to go for a dinner or event

1628775678688.png

Health Minister Ong Ye Kung has warned against using another person's vaccination certificate in order to dine at restaurants, saying the authorities are aware this is happening.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Mr Ong said: "The authorities will enforce against this, and offenders will face (a) severe penalty. It is not worth it. Take a PET if you have to attend a dinner or event."

A PET refers to the pre-event Covid-19 test, which costs about $20 and is valid for 24 hours.

Under the gradual easing of rules that began on Tuesday, people who have not been fully vaccinated are required to take a PET to dine at a restaurant or foodcourt.

This differentiated approach is aimed at protecting those who have not been vaccinated, as the consequences of their contracting the virus can be much more severe.

Yesterday, Mr Ong added that people with a negative test result are still not protected from infection and should be careful.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a separate announcement on Tuesday that those who have recovered from Covid-19 in the last 270 days will still need a valid PET exemption notice if they wish to dine at a food and beverage establishment.

It said recovered individuals are not automatically considered to be in the same category as fully vaccinated individuals.

People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the full regimen of the Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty, Moderna, or any vaccine on the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Emergency Use Listing, such as AstraZeneca, Janssen, Sinopharm, or Sinovac.

The ministry said this week that residents who were vaccinated overseas with any of the vaccines under the WHO's list have to provide documentary proof and take a blood test at an approved provider to confirm their vaccinations have been effective.

Upon a positive serology test, their vaccination records will be updated in the National Immunisation Registry (NIR) and reflected on the TraceTogether and HealthHub apps.

A separate process is being worked out for short-term visit pass holders who were vaccinated abroad so that their vaccination status can be included in the NIR.

"Hard copies of overseas vaccination certificates will not be accepted for the vaccination-differentiated safe management measures," said the ministry.

"This is because it will be difficult for individual establishments to verify the authenticity of these certificates which are issued in different formats and languages."

MOH said those who received the Sinovac vaccine here can access their vaccination records on the HealthHub app.

Imho, Keechiu is just as bad, possibly worse. At least OYK bothers to try and use statistics in forcing something down your throat.
Keechiu will simply claim that it is the "right way" and possibly even mention that it would be what LKY would do. Just wait and see when Keechiu becomes the PM............... lol................

Think Kee Chiu got no chance. Ever since the leaked audio recording, hes pushed to the background lioa. Nowdays you see him also no more yaya. LHL must have tore him a new one since the leak.

I suspect its easily LW, not because hes the best but rather cause the competition sucks. best of the worse. OYK is just there to tank all the bad news to make LW look good. Just that OYK doesn't know it and thinks hes in the running. Look at his portfolio. Education, Transport and Health. No way those are PM credentials

OYK went to the inauguration of the Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution Board of Directors this morning.

Was at the inauguration of the Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution Board of Directors this morning.
The Institution has a long history in #Singapore - it was set up in 1867 by Chinese immigrants, mostly Cantonese at that time, before expanding to practically all dialect groups. Philanthropists such as Mr Lee Kong Chian, and Mr Tan Tock Seng, have served as past Chairmen of the Board.
Today, the Institution through its branches delivers free TCM services to residents all round Singapore. It has a team of almost 50 TCM practitioners, most of whom graduated from NTU’s double degree programme. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I am thankful for their help in persuading our seniors to go for their jabs.

Majority of seniors have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine: Ong Ye Kung

1629121833716.png

SINGAPORE - The vast majority of Singapore's seniors now have at least partial protection against Covid-19, with 85 per cent of those aged 70 and above having received at least one shot of a vaccine, said Health Minister Ong Ye Kung on Monday (Aug 16).

The vaccination rate for the next oldest group - aged 60 to 69 - is even higher, at over 90 per cent, he said.

At the same time, Singapore's daily vaccination rate has slowed to around 40,000 jabs a day, as most of the population have been inoculated against the coronavirus.

This is about half the number administered during the peak of the country's vaccination drive.

"That's a good thing, but we are also plateauing," Mr Ong said in an interview with radio station Kiss92 FM, as he urged those not yet vaccinated to get their shot. "I think we might well be the most vaccinated country in the world."

As at last Saturday, approximately three-quarters of Singapore's population had completed the full two-dose regimen.

During the interview, which was aired live on Facebook, Mr Ong fielded questions from viewers. Some asked when Singaporeans would start getting booster shots, while others wanted to know what people who cannot get vaccinated due to medical reasons should do.

The minister said those who are immunocompromised are likely to be encouraged to get booster shots quite soon, as their bodies are not reacting as strongly to the vaccines as they should.

This is less critical for healthy individuals, he added. "Maybe within a year, you may have a third shot. I think these are things we are studying as well."

He urged those who cannot receive the mRNA-based Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty or Moderna vaccines due to medical reasons to consider getting China's Sinovac jab instead.

The data suggests that the Sinovac vaccine may be slightly less effective at protecting a person against infection compared with the mRNA-based vaccines, but it is "very effective" at preventing severe illness, he said.

When it comes to the Delta variant of the coronavirus, however, the jury is still out, he said. "There are lots of views on Sinovac, but we go with the science. And the science is that so far, we have not seen very robust data on Sinovac's effectiveness against Delta."

What about those who are ineligible for any vaccine?

"You will just have to wait for the rest to be vaccinated. When the people around you are vaccinated, you are protected," Mr Ong said.

"When we get vaccinated, we are not just protecting ourselves - we are helping to protect those who cannot get vaccinated."

Here are some answers to other questions that the minister was asked.

Q: Should unvaccinated people wait for the Novavax vaccine to be made available?

A: Novavax has not been approved by any regulatory authority in the world. We are still working with the company on submitting its dossier and seeing it be approved, but it will take some time.

Our guess is that the earliest would be at the end of the year, if not early next year. I think it's a bit long to wait, to be unvaccinated. So do consider the Sinovac option.

Q: More virus clusters have emerged as Singapore embarks on its four-stage reopening. Should people be concerned?

A: If you're vaccinated, you should be more reassured, because the chances of you falling very sick are now quite low. But at the same time you've still got to be careful. We don't take the approach of a "Freedom Day". I think that would be throwing caution to the wind in our circumstances.

Q: You're interacting with many people... Are you ever worried for yourself?

A: Not quite. While the Delta variant is very transmissible and infectious, there are ways to keep yourself safe.

Just basic hygiene, keep your mask on, wear a proper mask... avoid very crowded places, keep to a certain group of friends and don't party in different people's houses. Just basic precautions like these, you lower your chances by a great deal.

OYK met a group of cyclists.

Met this group of cycling enthusiasts, who named themselves the “2 wheelers of malu malu”, in my constituency back in February.
They are residents at the Jalan Malu Malu area in #Sembawang.
They started weekly cycling trips last year during the pandemic and would visit different parts of Singapore, usually via the PCN. They vary their group sizes based on prevailing rules.
Great to see these self-start groups, to promote green commute and healthy lifestyles!
