What do former pilot Hisyamuddin Mohd Nasir, SAF Captain Daniel Koh, and former hotel sales executive Joanne Tan have in common?
They are part of a diverse team in the Ministry of Health, Singapore Contact Tracing Centres – one of the nerve centres in Singapore’s fight against COVID-19.
Last Friday, I paid them a visit together with Minister Lawrence Wong.
Our contact tracers analyse vast amounts of data - with the help of TraceTogether and SafeEntry - to identify close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases. They spend hours interviewing each infected individual, and activating quarantine and swab test facilities.
Working tirelessly, they help to ringfence possible new cases and prevent transmissions from spilling over to the community. Very aptly, the two teams at the MOH Contact Tracing Centres are named Marvel and DC. Indeed they are superheroes who help save the day.

Naming the contact tracing centres after superhero teams - that is extremely inspiring yet extremely useless.

They should also name the contract tracers after superheroes - Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman etc.

OYK talking to senior.

Today the Multi-Ministry Taskforce announced we are moving to Phase 3 (Heightened Alert) in two steps starting 14 June. That is the result of everyone’s effort.
We are controlling this wave of transmission without going into a Circuit Breaker, but with better contact tracing, wider testing and more vaccinations. With these new abilities, let’s hope we can put the Circuit Breaker as a response behind us.
We are rolling out another new tool to fight COVID-19. From 16 June, antigen rapid test (ART) self-test kits will be available for sale at Watson, Guardian and Unity outlets.
Fast and convenient to use, the test is a quick screening tool to pick up any possible infection early. Test can be done in less than 20 mins, much like a pregnancy kit. If test is positive, call our Swab And Send Home (SASH) clinics to provide a confirmatory PCR test.
The ART self-test kits will also allow frequent and widespread testing in the community. We can then all have greater peace of mind as we open up more economic and social activities.
Meanwhile, stay safe and sign up for your vaccine shot when you receive the SMS invitation.

Next time, while the girl is taking pregnancy test, the guy can take covid19 test. If both negative, then switch tests.

Came across this chart in a J.P. Morgan report. It uses publicly available information to plot the COVID-19 infection rate against vaccination rate in several countries which use the Moderna/Pfizer-BioNTech/AstraZeneca vaccines. It shows an encouraging picture where the higher the vaccination rate, the lower the infection rate. Of course, non-medical measures such as social distancing and mask-wearing still matter.
The report can be found here (chart is on page 3):
