Methinks they are still short of players in key positions and the midfield is not contributing enough in terms of goals. We have an excellent striker in Cavani but we'll only have him for the next 12 months. Fred hardly scores and is the only Brazilian I know who cannot shoot. The burden of scoring and creating lies heavily on the shoulders of Bruno and Pogba. Bruno thrives in a diamond shape midfield behind the no.9 and Pogba on the left The other two Fred and Mctominay for the most part are defensive. They need creative minds in the middle.

Rashford is average at best. He has improved as a player. Greenwood is the exciting one.

Get a good CD. Take Milenkovic over Pau Torres, Kingsley Coman, Max Aaron on the right, Grealish or Declan Rice over Jadon Sancho and look for the next Cavani. That would be the winning combo.

The other factor in the game was ManU missed Harry Maguire probably the best Central Defender in the EPL.

The team is close to the finished article. OGS has transformed the team into believers. 2nd in the EPL is no joke!

I think OGS in his inexperienced forgot to get his goalies to practice scoring penalties. It is fine details like this that make the difference at the top level. Once DH and DDG have trained properly to score penalties the silverware will follow. Next trophy win will be ManU beating Bayern Munich in 2022 CL final on penalties 11-10.

OGS and the players were so confident for the penalty shoot out.

They practiced very hard and knew that all their players would score if needed to take a penalty.

So much so that Bruno Fernandes won the toss for who to kick first and gave that privilege to Villareal knowing that 60.5% of teams that kick off first go on to win the penalty shoot out. That was the extent of the confidence!

Really fluke result. ManU should have won.

Yes Harry's absence was felt at the back and set pieces. He is the right fit for United despite the relentless hammering that he got from critics. It would be a mistake to depend on him. Neither Lindelof nor Bailly are are capable of handling high balls with the latter injury prone and inconsistent.
On the contrary, they do practice penalties. They have a dedicated goalkeeping coach. Dean Henderson was too impatient and immature in that sense to prove himself to Southgate. Had he allowed himself the time to grow, he would have played in the finals.

Chelsea to win CL with Oliver Giroud scoring the winner. Thomas Tuchel to do a treble on Pep Guardiola.

I think Giroud does not have the legs anymore, the few times he played this season, he seemed very rusty. If Chelsea win, it will be due to a cockup from Man City defenders.

Worth a bet, since Chelsea are the underdogs.

It’s really 50 50 coming to penalties. And how many penalties matches have to be settled by goalies with 10 other players all scored ? A goalie is to save goals, penalties included which DDG is not strong. Goalies are not expected to score.

A world class goalie like DDG should save at least one penalty.

And to be clear Man U had enough and should have kill the game in 90 minutes. OGS for whatever fuck reason don’t bring fresh legs on. Cavani cannot last past 90. He should throw in Daniel James and Anand to run at defenders Man U has Villereal pegged back majority of the game and they need to squeeze them. Dribbling short quick passes to draw fouls and penalties. No they didn’t do that dithering and passing around outside.

Man U is dangerous when Pogba play on left. OGS did not switch him to there but instead took him off and put mata. Surely he has penalties in mind or maybe give mata his farewell game.

In all Man U could and should have won it in 90 minutes.

Uhmm......

Bruno won the toss and let Villarreal kick off first.

DDG had a whole sheet to tell him where the players might shoot and he ignored it.

It is a fluke result. May 26 was Sir Matt Busby birthday. He is dead. May 26 was also the day ManU won the treble beating Bayern. OGS said it was destined that they win on May 26.

Too confident.

They even flew SAF to give out the medals! Talk about arrogance! ManU is one of the most fucking arrogant clubs in the world.

I saw the penalty shootout, the Villarreal goalkeeper could have saved at least 3 or 4. Fingertips touching.

Had that happened, everything would have been settled within five or six penalty kicks.

Whereas DDG was no where close to saving any.

If he had followed the instructions he would have stayed in the middle to catch those down the middle shots.

Anyway ManU believes that it is their right to win trophies for some reason.

Hope OGS stays in charge for long long. Also Glazers too.

Even if Man City blunders,Timo Werner will beat himself even with an open goal. Giroud on the other hand plays with his head and if his past performances is anything to by will rise to the occasion when it matters. This is the type of player you need in a final.

It's written in the stars.

Yes my good doc. They do train keepers to take penalties. Some keepers are good enough that they're assigned to take one of the first 5 kicks.

Fark me! DDG is 'world class'? Then standards must have dropped dramatically.

There were two players who stood out like a sore thumb in the first 45 minutes-Pogba and Rashford. they were very poor by their own standards. Should have taken them off in the first 10-15 minutes of the second half. Marcel Desailly made an interesting comment to Richard Keys in a BEIN sports program some weeks ago about Pogba. He's more a value add player rather than the main player. In so many words, he must be surrounded by very good midfielders who are willing to take on the 'main casting' role. That probably explains why he is so inconsistent.
In summary, OGS was waiting for a lucky break that didn't come and that is probably the reason why he did not bring in 'fresh legs' to disrupt the attacking rhythm. The difference between the teams is down to set pieces. Only one team was well prepared.

They are "world class" by virtue they play for Manchester United which is also a "world class" club.

The whole football game has just become a money game really.

This year's CL final was between Man City and Chelsea. Two clubs which had won little before big rich owners came in.

The ESL protestors have got it all wrong.

They should have protested when big rich sheikhs and russian oil tycoon came to buy clubs.

If the ESL was made of of clubs like Villarreal Sevilla West Ham Newcastle Fiorentina Schalke Hoffenheim Lille Feyenoord with the agreement that all these clubs have new super rich owners and will be pumping in 1000 billion to buy players and coaches with a new league i doubt those team's fans would protest. Right?

Hypocrites.

World class football club means having rich owner these days.

Man City was supposed to be banned from CL this season and next because they violated UEFA financial fair play rules. But with money they hired the best lawyers who got the ruling over turned.

Football lost its soul when these rich owners came in to buy those also ran clubs. History? Tradition? Rubbish.

Jadon Sancho: Man Utd agree £73m fee with Borussia Dortmund for England winger

By Simon Stone BBC Sport

Sancho has made one substitute appearance for England at Euro 2020
Sancho has made one substitute appearance for England at Euro 2020

Manchester United have agreed a fee in principle of 85m euros (£73m) with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho.
The 21-year-old England winger, who is yet to have a medical or agree personal terms, is expected to sign a five-year contract with the option of a sixth.

The fee, payable over five equal instalments, will see Sancho become the second-most expensive English player of all time behind Harry Maguire.
Defender Maguire joined United from Leicester for £80m in 2019.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified four key positions he wants to improve as they look to build on their progress last season.
After steering his side to second in the Premier League and the Europa League final, the Norwegian is looking to strengthen the right side of his midfield, then the central defensive, midfield and attacking areas.
Sancho fills the first of those.

The deal brings to an end a long chase for the Londoner, who joined Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017.
United expected to sign him last summer but could not agree a fee.
Sancho scored 50 goals and registered 57 assists in 137 appearances for Dortmund, scoring twice in the German Cup final to help the Bundesliga side to a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig in May.

He has won 20 caps for England since his international debut in 2018, scoring three goals, and was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in 2018-19 and 2019-20.

City to United via Dortmund - Sancho timeline

March 2000: Born in Camberwell, south London, growing up in nearby Kennington.
2007: Spotted by Watford at the age of seven, registering as a player two years later.
March 2015: Joins Manchester City shortly before his 15th birthday for a fee rising up to £500,000.
August 2017: Leaves City aged 17 without making a senior appearance, joining Borussia Dortmund for about £10m.
October 2017: Part of England squad that wins the U17 World Cup, though he only takes part in the group stage before being recalled by Dortmund. Makes his Dortmund debut as a late substitute in a 2-2 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt.
April 2018: Scores his first Dortmund goal in a 4-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen a month after his 18th birthday.
October 2018: Makes his England debut aged 18 in their Nations League draw with Croatia, the first player born in the 2000s to play for the Three Lions.
September 2019: Scores his first England goals at the age of 19 in a 5-3 win against Kosovo.
February 2020: Becomes the only teenager to score 25 Bundesliga goals after hitting the opener in a 5-0 win over Union Berlin a month before his 20th birthday.
June 2020: Ends the 2019-20 season with 20 goals and 18 assists in 44 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions.
May 2021: After his proposed move to Old Trafford fell through in 2020, Sancho notches 16 goals and 20 assists across all competitions in 2020-21 for Dortmund, earning him a spot in Gareth Southgate's Euro 2020 squad.
June 2021: United agree £73m deal with Dortmund.

How Sancho compares to Man Utd attackers

Sancho's move to Old Trafford will see him link up with Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood in what could prove a formidable attack for Solskjaer's side.
Sancho scored 16 goals in all competitions during the 2020-21 season, five fewer than Rashford, but four more than Greenwood, and nine more than Martial. Cavani, who joined United on a free transfer last year after leaving Paris St-Germain, netted 17.
In four seasons at Dortmund, Sancho notched 57 assists and created 65 big chances, more than Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and Cavani during the same period.

Sancho also stacks up well when compared to some of the biggest names in Europe.
Since the start of the 2018-19 season, only seven players have more combined goals and assists than the England international. Of those players, only Barcelona's Lionel Messi (43) has created more goals than Sancho (41) in that time.

'One of the most exciting players in Europe' - what they've said about Sancho

Former Watford youth coach Louis Lancaster:"It doesn't matter if he's walking out on Hackney Marshes or Wembley in front of 80,000 people - it's football, it's fun. What you've seen of him is nothing compared to what's to come."
Former Watford academy team-mate Perry Price:"He's always mentioned big clubs - Real Madrid, Barcelona. It was always part of his plans. He sacrificed his youth for football."
Former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre:"Jadon's a world-class player, no question about that. I've rarely seen a player who has come so far at such a young age."
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc:"Jadon Sancho is definitely one of the most exciting players in Europe."
England manager Gareth Southgate:"Jadon's is an unusual story for a young English player. He's been brave enough to go abroad and play. He is a player that excites us a lot."

Reminds me a bit like last time Liverpool said to have signed Salah only for Mourinho and Chelsea to sign him under their noses.

Man City or Liverpool might try to potong jalan?
