New signing?

New signing?

The Mirror's Alan Nixon writes...

United given Thiago boost as dad drops OT hint
Manchester United boss David Moyes' bid for Barcelona babe Thiago Alcantara has been given a DOUBLE boost. Alcantara’s influential ex-Brazil international dad Mazinho thinks he should join United ahead of City, Bayern Munich and latecomers Chelsea this week. And the Spain Under-21 skipper’s gifted young brother Rafinha is also heading for the Premier League from Barca on loan - making a move to England more appealing. Now the plan is for the family to relocate to the north-west, where they can all live together. Striker Rafinha is being sent out on loan for a season by Barcelona, and Everton is a likely destination for the 20-year-old although United chief Moyes could even sign him if it helps push the move for his sought-after brother over the line. Chelsea and Arsenal are also keen on Rafinha, as well as brilliant Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu who is also being sent out on loan for a year for experience.

The Daily Mail reports that Sir Alex Ferguson's first ever United team-sheet - hand-written and signed by the man himself - for the Reds' match with Oxford United on 8 November 1986 fetched £19,500 at auction - six times the asking price.

Re: New signing?

Latest update,

Barca is going to up Thiago's salary by a substantial amount to prevent him from moving to MU. Is it going to stop him from signing with MU, a team he supported since childhood.
Nothing's gonna stop me from signing with MU though. :p

MANCHESTER (Reuters) - State-controlled airline Aeroflot joined Manchester United's growing list of global sponsors on Monday, the first Russian company to partner with the English soccer champions.

Aeroflot is a sponsor of the Sochi 2014 Olympics and replaces Turkish Airlines as United's partner in a five-year deal unveiled at the club's Old Trafford stadium.

"It's a significant step for our first global partnership to be with one of the most successful and well-loved football clubs in the world," Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Saveliev said.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

United claims to have 659 million followers worldwide and is carving out a lucrative series of global and local sponsorship deals.

Although United and Aeroflot may sound an unlikely combination, there is already heavy Russian investment in European soccer through owners including Roman Abramovich at Chelsea and sponsors such as Gazprom.

Airlines also enjoy the global exposure provided by Premier League teams.

Etihad is the main sponsor of United's local rival Manchester City, while Emirates is partnered with Arsenal.

General Motors last year agreed to take over as United's main shirt sponsor from 2014 in a seven-year deal worth $559 million (375 million pounds) .

Man City in for Ronaldo

MANCHESTER CITY have made a late move to hijack Manchester United’s attempt to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

By Duncan Wright EXCLUSIVE/Published 11th July 2013
Manchester Cit are looking to break the bank to land ex Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo
City have decided to break the bank to attract the Real Madrid star to the Etihad if he becomes available this summer.

And they have told the Ronaldo camp they are prepared to beat any financial offer United put to him - meaning they could pay more than £300,000-a-week to get their man.

United have spent the past five months trying to put together a deal to bring the 28-year-old back to Old Trafford, and the emotional pull for Ronaldo is huge.
City know that would be a major hurdle to overcome, but Starsport understands both chief executive Ferran Soriano and football director Txiki Begiristain have told the player’s representatives they are deadly serious in their interest.

And they have made it clear that if Real are open to letting the Portugal ace leave, they will go as far as it takes to blow their Manchester rivals out of the water.
City chairman Sheik Mansur has made it clear to Soriano that should Ronaldo come onto the market, City have to do everything possible to clinch his signature.

Ronaldo has two years left of his current deal in Spain, but despite making public claims a new deal is close, Real have yet to make ANY formal contract offer.

That has increased optimism at United that they can seal a stunning summer transfer - though City’s late interest will cause concern at Old Trafford.
Paris Saint Germain are the only side to have tabled a concrete bid so far, with Real rejecting a £55m bid last week. The French club would be prepared to pay big, but Ronaldo is understood to favour a return to the Premier League when he leaves the Bernabeu.
Until now United had been the only serious option if a £70m offer can persuade Real to sell, but the forward’s agent Jorge Mendes has been left in no doubt City’s interest is for real.

The club are still smarting at the way they missed out to United in the race for Robin Van Persie a year ago, a signing which Mansur believes cost them the title.

They are desperate to avoid history repeating itself, and would do everything possible to clinch a transfer which would dwarf the controversy of the Carlos Tevez signing which sent ripples through the City.
