SINGAPORE - A 28-year-old man accused of raping a woman denied the charge at a district court today.
Ong Mingwee added that he did not tell her that she could not go home unless she had sex with him.
Ong is on trial for allegedly raping the 22-year-old woman whom he had just met at a club.
He is also accused of detaining her in his flat at Block 203, Toa Payoh North, where the alleged rape took place in the early hours of Feb 12, 2009.
The Straits Times reported that Ong told a district court, on Monday, Feb 14, that she had consented to have sex with him.
The New Paper had earlier reported that Ong, who helps out at his father's minimart in Toa Payoh, had first met the woman at Zouk through mutual friends.
They had danced intimately together before heading back to Ong's flat. He claimed he offered to send the woman home once the club closed. He also said that they kissed in the taxi on the way and she agreed to head to his house instead.
When they arrived at his home, he said he left her sitting in his bedroom while he relieved himself and then smoked a cigarette. When he returned, the woman was crying, he said.
She told him that she was scared and wanted to go home but he calmed her down and reassured her that he would not hurt her.
They started kissing again and lay down on the bed. He said the woman did not resist when he removed her clothes, too. He then tried to have sex with her but the woman started crying again and asked to make a phone call.
When he asked if she would have sex with him if he allowed her to do so, she agreed.
Ong had told the court in January that when he asked her if she would have sex with him if he allowed her to do so, she had replied that would give him a sexual experience "like never before".
According the Straits Times, the court heard earlier that the woman called her mother and her girlfriend, who had been with her earlier at Zouk, telling them she was scared and wanted to go home.
But she had no idea where she was.
The trial will continue this week. If convicted, Ong can be jailed up to 20 years and caned.
