SINGAPORE: Ng Kian Yong, 42, was charged in court on Sunday with armed robbery.
He is allegedly behind a series of taxi robbery cases.
Police said it received four reports of taxi robberies between Tuesday and Thursday.
The culprit would board the taxi in Geylang, Sims Avenue or Sims Drive and direct the taxi driver to take him to Geylang or Eunos Crescent.
Upon arrival at the destination, the culprit would threaten the driver by placing a chopper at the cabby's neck and demanding cash, before fleeing on foot.
Ng was arrested on Friday evening at Geylang Lorong 23.
If convicted, he could be jailed for up to 14 years and given 12 strokes of the cane. - CNA/xq
