Man arrested for suspected molest at MRT station

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty promptly within 24 hours of the report.
On Feb 7, 2013 at about midnight, an 18-year-old female student lodged a police report at Yishun North Neighbourhood Police Centre informing that she was molested by an unknown man at Choa Chu Kang MRT Station earlier at about 10.40pm.
Following the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division swiftly commenced investigations at Choa Chu Kang MRT station.
At about 11pm, while officers were at the scene, the man was spotted boarding a train.
Officers managed to detain him at Yew Tee MRT with the assistance of SMRT staff and officers from Police Transport Security Command and Jurong Police Division.
He was placed under arrest following an interview.
The offence of Outrage of Modesty carries an imprisonment term of up to two years and caning.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Keok Tong San commended the officers for their swift action, adding that police will not hesitate to track down those inclined to commit such offences and ensure that they face the full brunt of the law.
