Main sponsor might sue Miss Singapore World organiser

SINGAPORE: After the controversy, legal action could follow. One of the main sponsors of the Miss Singapore World 2009 pageant has sent lawyers’ letters to organiser ERM World Marketing. Young And Healthy said in a press release on Tuesday that it "has been affected in its business and suffered losses" due to the "uncertainty" over Ms Ris Low’s replacement in next month’s finals in South Africa. The beauty supplements company said there were "questions which needed to be answered", such as whether ERM knew of Ms Low’s conviction for credit card fraud before it was reported in the press on September 25.
Acting for the sponsor, Clifford Law had written to ERM last Friday, and extended the deadline for ERM’s reply from Monday to Tuesday. The organiser has since replied through its lawyers, but Young And Healthy claimed their questions "were not answered". Clifford Law’s Michael Loh told MediaCorp that ERM will be "accorded a reasonable period" to respond further. When contacted, ERM events director Tracy Lee declined further comment. The one—page statement ended with: "Our clients will weigh their options accordingly." One of the options, said Mr Loh, would be to sue ERM.
