maid

Joe, your style is the angmo style.
Many angmos I know treat their maids like an able assistant....send them for driving lessons, upgrade and nurture them so they can take on more responsibilities.....sinkies treat their maids like slaves.

joe treats the maid like family so she is appreciative.

My neighbour was complaining about his maid. Said she was stupid and lazy. He said this type is the worst.

I disagreed ...i said hardworking and stupid is the worst.

The first one doesnt cause as much havoc and mess as the second.

What do you guys think?

As long as she is young, hot and vulnerable, all is forgiven.

hardworking + clever = maid become wife. :D

thats what happened to an angmor shipping tycoon who lived in singapore for awhile.

he married his maid and they moved back to europe.

when they visited his singapore office, even the raffles suite $10k per night was not up to her liking.
the next day, the office staff had to go down to help her move her luggages to the ritzcarlton.

My maid is one of the kind.

- cleans really well and is not uncomfortable with modern cleaning equipment
- cooks very well especially Isaan food which wife and I love
- learn to cook Singapore food very fast and well like, chicken rice, prawn noodles, lor mee, nasi lemak, biryani
- has her own notebook and sends photos to us via facebook about the house while wife and I travel. Also Skype and WhatsApp to us with her smartphone
- drives my wife in her RX
- drive herself to wet market on weekends and whenever she needs to go supermarket
- calls cable TV, internet provider, aircon, plumber, repairmen whenever needed
- protective, always bargain on our behalf when we need to buy something, also always check the bills before allowing us to pay
- jagah the house (don't forget she has a Glock)
- manage all the house bills
- buy things home for us whenever she goes holiday
- of course takes care of my precious dog, not just cleaning and eating but also drives her to hospital every Saturday for blood checks and again to consult doctor

We really don't know what to do without her. Next year will send her for some supervisor course before we get more maids for new house.

Think it work both ways. If employee 'automatic', employer also 'automatic'. Win-win situation. If one side not automatic, then this will not work.

I guess so Narong, just like my office employeess as i dont treat her differently from them so i cannot be considered a special or good boss, just normal. Annually she gets 14 days paid leave, 2 months gauranteed bonus, performance bonus, all outpatient & dental expenses, hospitalization taken care by insurance including accident, 1 return flight ticket home, long service bonus and finally 1-2 times a year follow madam for overseas trip while I take care of doggy. In the past my Indonesian maid in Singapore got similar package too.

I am sure for her and for many it's not just about money but it's also a chance to upgrade one's lifestyle, knowledge and experience. She used to work in a factory for a short period when she was a young adult and went back to village to have her baby and then stuck as a farmer for almost 10 years. I was quite proud of her when after a year working for me she told me she saved enough money to want to buy herself a birthday present, a notebook. I brought her to buy and then sent her for course. I am lucky to have her.

We have 2 houses in Jakarta with a housekeeper, 7 maids, 5 dogs and a houseboy. They are all treated equally and they all had been sent to a year's course learning English. I give refresher courses every Saturday if I am around, but they still struggle in speaking it.:(

A few are muslims, but they also eat pork as the housekeeper will not bother to cook special dishes for them. These are girls from broken homes and very poor families and they are very happy living with us. They also cook Singapore dishes often as my brother likes Teo Chew muay. Sometimes a business partner after wild boar hunting will give us a large portion, which they will cook.

We are not there all the time and they take care of the houses and the dog and the koi pond. Everything goes like clockwork, so we don't have much problems and they are very good workers, all of them.

If the maid is intelligent, she would be plying her trade along the streets of Geylang. Not work for $500 per month as a helper.
Only a Lowlife Sinkie worthless loser will speak like this. What a total disgrace !!!!!

In managing maids or even workers, sometimes you just got to let it go so that they can perform and don't be too serious if things not done your way as long as its done.

There are many maid stories that don't make it to the press. You learn about these cases through word of mouth, from friends sharing their maid woes.

I have heard of stories where some maids will sneak off to drink with their boyfriendsds, while they are supposed to be looking after their employers kids:( Some parents noticed changes in the behaviour of their children & suspect the maids are scaring the kids into silence. Even their references can be suspect. I have heard of some maids using their friends as reference:rolleyes: When you call these so called ex-employers you will of course give glowing references;) These problems are from employers of filipino maids

Having a good maid is like having a successful marriage :) We have all heard that divorce rates are on the rise ;)

You seem to have a good maid. How much are you paying her:confused:

The problems as I see it is that many of these maid agencies are not vetting their maids & clients properly. Problem extends to our gov't who is happy to take a cut a cut from the employer/maid & ignores the problem.

I have friends in Indonesia & they don't have problems with maids. It may be because the maids they have are recommended by someone from the same kampong. The kampong grapevine :)

Usually the well-off Indonesian Chinese housed a whole family in a separate house but within the compound. The wife cooks, their kids served and do the chores, while husband is the gardener, driver and security personnel all roll into one. There are other arrangements but in Indonesia, life is pretty good for them as the employer takes care of everything. So they are practically part of an extended family.

bro...you know of any of these well off Chinese who want to house a stud to live with their many maids? I volunteer. :)

Yes that's usually what I see, a family working as retainers. Living in a separate section of the house. Many homes in Jakarta have their own swimming pool, so you really need the manpower to look after the premises.

In some cases for 2+ generations. Plenty of hands to share the workload. Not like in Spore where "a" maid is expected to be one-horse-kick. They take care of the kids, parents, walk the dog, wash the car,.... It's really not surprising that some maids crack under the workload.
