Mahathir says no formal notice given as decision is not so easily made. Then why did he announce it in the first place? Is this called New Malaysia?

Najib's hsr cost nearly RM80 bil.
Dr m looking at slternative proposals from ktm( 160 km/ hr) to ERL( extending airport ecpress rail to jurong at 200 km/ hr).
Most likely, ERL may win as it cost 1/4 of najib's proposal and not too fast nor too slow and ends in jurong, plus all along the route they have access to klia, KL and jurong. No need for new KL station. Just use existing KL sentral.

For Dr M to be the best, he needs to build a wall at the causeway n make singapore pay for it

What bill is sinkapore footing? The two countries do their own things in their respective territories. Has sinkapore built any tracks?

I already pasted the type of costs incurred include staff costs, consultancy costs, land acquisition costs etc. All these costs need to be incurred starting from the stage of cost feasibility study to station/track/train design to evaluation of tenders, all of which are necessary work before any tracks can be built.

Plans for Jurong Lake District not changed regardless of HSR result

The overall impetus and vision for Jurong Lake District has not changed, regardless of the outcome of the high-speed rail (HSR) project between Singapore and Malaysia. The overall impetus and vision for Jurong Lake District has not changed, regardless of the outcome of the high-speed rail (HSR) project between Singapore and Malaysia, said National Development Minister Lawrence Wong in Parliament on Monday.

His statement comes after Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has announced plans to scrap the mega rail project with the city-state – sparking concerns among Singapore citizens on the fate of the area. Wong, however, assured the public that the vision for the district remains unchanged. “Some details may need to be adjusted along the way, as circumstances change. But the bottom line is that we have an exciting transformation plan for the whole area, and we will proceed with the implementation of these plans when ready.”

He noted that the development of Jurong Lake District is part of the government’s broader effort to develop urban centres outside the downtown area. “We started with the building of our first regional centre at Tampines in 1992, and then started the work to transform Jurong in 2008,” said Wong. “So the plans for Jurong Lake District were developed well before Malaysia proposed the HSR project.” In fact, the government decided to have the Singapore terminus of the HSR in Jurong only in 2015. He revealed that the transformation plans for the district include the development of a commercial precinct and up to 20,000 new homes, the upgrade of Jurong Lake Gardens and the development of a major transport hub linking the existing North-South and East-West MRT Lines as well as the upcoming Jurong Region and Cross Island Lines.

“These plans are still relevant today. The land parcels that the government has acquired are needed to realise these plans.” Wong noted that the Jurong Country Club site is needed for mixed use developments and community facilities, while the Raffles Country Club site will provide for the Cross Island Line’s western depot and other transport related uses.

But some transport expert said in newspapers that’s penny wise pound foolish solution not able to use for future hsr train connections.

HSR project postponed, not scrapped, Dr M tells Japanese media (updated)

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad seemed to have walked back from an earlier decision when he told a Japanese publication that the high-speed rail project had been merely postponed, not cancelled.

Speaking to Nikkei Asian Review on the sidelines of the Future of Asia conference in Tokyo, he said Malaysia cannot afford the project at this moment but signalled that the door is still open.

“We cannot say we will never have high-speed rail (HSR) in Malaysia. What we can do is we can postpone the project because it is far too costly at this moment,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said Malaysia would need an HSR but it is something to only consider in the future.

HSR 's saga

Dr M ( In Malaysia after GE ) - HSR cancelled. No benefits to Malaysia.

PM Lee - Can send official note ?

Dr M - Let's me think about it .

Dr M ( in Japan ) - HSR postponed. Not cancelled. We think that it has some benefits to us , but now we cannot proceed due to huge costs

PM Lee - Can send official note ?

Dr M - Let me think about it.

PM Lee - But every month I lose millions due to the contract 's obligations. Can send official note ?

Dr M - Let me think about it. But you should know what to do .

Lim Guan Eng - If HSR cost can be halved, can revive HSR . [ Not said, but implied - You should know what to do . ]

PM Lee - Send me official note. Let me think about it.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Putrajaya may revive the Malaysia-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) if the project cost can be lowered significantly, Lim Guan Eng has said.
In an interview with Straits Times, the finance minister said the 350km project itself “made sense” but indicated that the Mahathir administration is delaying the HSR due to its “exorbitant” cost for the Malaysian portion, estimated at RM110 billion currently.
However, Lim said the government has received alternative offers to halve the project cost.
“We don't know whether that's serious... (but) that means the whole thing was way overpriced and that raises more questions,” he told the Singapore daily in an interview published today.
But Lim said no formal proposals have been made.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said in May that his Pakatan Harapan government would seek to cancel the HSR, which was agreed on by the previous Barisan Nasional government in 2016, because it was just too expensive right now.
The Mahathir administration previously disclosed that Malaysia is facing a whopping RM1 trillion in debts and liabilities.
However, the Malaysian government is yet to submit a full notice regarding the cancellation to Singapore, and has not replied to a Singaporean diplomatic note on the matter sent last month.
The Singapore government has said that in the event of a cancellation, it would seek to the recoup more than RM700 million in compensation from Malaysia for costs it has incurred.

Mahathir is the best! Straight talker no double speak and no beating around the bush.

You are under his spell is it? "Best straight talker" is best reserved for Trump not Mahathir. Mahathir twists and turns and expects the whole world to guess his real intentions. He is throwing hints and expects everyone to be on his wavelength and frequency. Dare not state the obvious but instead beat about the bush. CAQ and his team all well-trained in the law of contract. No free lunch no discounts no re-negotiation unless it's provided for in the contract. Never heard of Mercenary pricks or what?

I support mahartir wholeheartedly on both the hsr and water issue.

It's good they are approaching the issue carefully and prudently.....110 billion RM is an exorbitant price for a white elephant project for any country let alone one in financial straits like Malaysia.i mean 110 billion is like 10 percent of the national debt and could go a long way in other national developments,I'm glad they are taking the time to consider their options and seek solutions and ignore the whiny twerps in SG over some 250m cancellation fee when their share of the project is probably like less than 10 percent of the total cost or some negligible shyt.especially the new Revelations that some parties have suggested that the hsr could be built for 50 percent less, this shows there has been wanton waste and possibly mass corruption in the previous adminstration.mudland should sue PAP for aiding and abetting a corrupt government into defrauding the country.

And isn't it the right of new administrations to change the policies of previous administrations like that dotard?of course sinkies wouldn't know anything about that cause they have lived under one regime since independence.

What shit are you talking? He one day say cancel one day say not cancel and now say difficult to make decisions and cannot make formal notice as market will react negatively. He just simply dare not face the music for his actions and expect Spore to foot the bill of his indecision beating around the bush and double speaking all the time. There is obviously something wrong with such a leader and they should give him a vote of no confidence and ask him to get lost!
What do you expect from the Top Malaysian Dog?
