Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was irked by questions from reporters today over a potential conflict of interest in a recent contract involving Petronas, in which he serves as an adviser.

Petronas last week reportedly awarded RM836 million worth of contracts to SapuraKencana Petroleum Sdn Bhd, in which his son Mokhzani Mahathir is a vice-chairperson.

Mahathir replied in a sarcastic tone when asked during a press conference today whether there was conflict of interest in the deal.

“Yes of course, he (Mokhzani) is given it because I instructed Petronas. Put that in your paper.

“I presided over everything. I told them, please give to my son and not to anybody else. That’s what I have been doing all the time.

“When I was the prime minister, everything was given to my children.

“But when everything goes to the children of the other prime ministers, you don’t want to mention because he is a nice man.

“He enables you to read, doesn't he?” Mahathir said in reply.

Yes I stand somewhat corrected, but nepotism is a direct form whereas what I mentioned is quite indirect, as it couples with cronyism and underlings smoothening and paving the way in order to gain personal favours for their own personal benefit.

I think we Asians know this better than others, how these children benefited from their parent's position.

Mahathir said it in frustration and the truth is somewhere in between. He may not be the one but his ball carriers(there are many as his balls are huge), does the job without having him to lift a finger. He is still the kingmaker in Malaysia and he controls Petronas amongst many others.

He can say anything he wants without fear as he is untouchable.

The Chinese behave like the Japanese, Koreans, Malays and Indians for starters.

Those Chinese and Malays are useless animals even in Malaysia but it's good he became civilised and moderate under the guidance of the half-Indian Mahathir (if he's an unfortunate full Indian then I don't think he'd be the same).
