Brother succeeds RSAF chief
THE Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will get a new chief come Dec 10 - and in a first for the Singapore Armed Forces, one sibling will replace another.
The new Chief of Air Force will be Brigadier-General Ng Chee Meng, 41. He will replace his older brother, Major-General Ng Chee Khern, 44, who has been the Air Force chief since 2006.
The generals have another sibling in the top rungs of the military: The youngest of the three, Rear-Admiral Ng Chee Peng, 39, is the Republic of Singapore Navy's Chief of Staff - Naval Staff and Fleet Commander.
Maj-Gen Ng, an SAF (Overseas) and President's Scholar, will move to the administrative service after he relinquishes his appointment, the Defence Ministry said yesterday.
Acknowledging his achievements since he joined the military in 1984, Mindef said the two-star general has served the SAF with distinction.
It credited Maj-Gen Ng with leading 'the most fundamental restructuring' of the Air Force and its staff since the arm was formed in 1968.
