Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, who was part of the PAP team that lost in the General Election for Aljunied GRC, will not contest in the 2016 election.

She will instead leave it for someone younger as she will be 57 years old. Singapore's first woman cabinet minister will be taking a break for now, and is considering moving back into the corporate sector, although the decision is not final.

She was speaking at a press conference this morning when she made the announcement.

The Second Minister for Finance revealed that she was surprised by the result in Aljunied, even though the PAP had expected a close fight.

She said she could not have done anything differently in her Serangoon Gardens division that could have helped the PAP team win in Aljunied.

Mrs Lim believes that people feel they are not being listened to sufficiently and that the party makes policies based on their intellect and does not seem to listen.

She also added that she will continue to contribute to women's issues.

She also said that she will be going back to private sector, which company? Temasek and its GICs? I would not consider those as private. If she gets in it is because of relationship and not her capability.

Why are PAP candidates quitting at the sight of defeat? Aren't they there because they want to serve? Or have they earned enough and hence no point to:
- feel embarassed again at the possibility of another defeat in the next GE
- fight when it might not be possible to ride coattails or walkover again

Look at the opposition parties, it takes courage to stand up and fight, then lost and live on to fight again at the next GE.

Why do they quit so easily ? This is just a first defeat and end of game for some already ! Whenever Singapore face a disaster , the leader advise us to be resilient , again this does not apply to themselves . Is it fair to the 45% supporters ? If I am one of the 45%, I will think VERY HARD about voting someone who surrender on the 1st defeat.

I think the PAP have give those jiak liao bee MPs too much perks and too comfortable a life. They have forgotten how to fight for Singaporeans anymore, its all about lining their fat pockets and laughing away when they see their CPF accounts. Can we be able to trust them if we undergo a serious property bubble or a war or they will sell their property and run away? They should have made house visits more often instead of getting grassroots leaders to clean up their place and give them VIP treatment every time they visit their constituency. There are a few veteran politicians like Sin Kek Tong and Sitoh Yi Pin who never give up even when the voters reject them again and again and they keep on contesting elections. Even Mr Chiam only succeeded getting voted as an MP on his 3rd try.

It is obvious they do not want to be servants to lesser mortals. All that talk about wanting to give back to the country is just bullshit. They are only interested in self-gains. At the first sign of any setback, instead of continuing to help the residents, they will run back to their safe and secure "private sector" positions.

Why both GY and LHH both say "leave it to someone younger" while calling for "change"? Got hidden meaning or just pure coincidence?

"She said she could not have done anything differently in her Serangoon Gardens division that could have helped the PAP team win in Aljunied."

that's possibly bcos she's also another 'yes' woman in the ranks of the white shirts, that dare not defy the party's grand plan.

"Mrs Lim believes that people feel they are not being listened to sufficiently and that the party makes policies based on their intellect and does not seem to listen."

so, she's also echoeing george's sentiments that the white shirts have been too authoritative that, as minions, they cant go against the master's will, and wouldnt even think about bearing the brush of the party whip.

it doesnt seem like they can replace the 2nd ministar for finance & transport, bcos they never had a 3rd ministar for finance & transport

Sorry bro, you are too late. :o

I've already recommended Wooden to replace Georgie as foreign affairs ministar. And Rin TinTin to follow him around to pour the tea.
