Have to disagree. I suspect that you do not know why the PAP lost vote share and more importantly the lowest since they came to power. Also bear in mind the following
1) 2 cabinet ministers and 1 senior minister of state
2) breached the GRC fortress strategy
3) close shaves in in 2 SMCs

The issues are not moderate by any means. It is also not an issue of a few concerns here and there. The fact that the PM is reviewing the salary is a dead giveaway that not all is well. It not about replacing blown lights bulbs or fixing neglected pot holes. We are talking about jobs, security, ownership of country and it unique culture. Things that cannot be fixed overnight.

The fact that the PAP immediately got to work shows that having credible opposition in numbers immediately delivers results. They will now be our eyes and ears and as LTK said rightly- he will slap the driver on the back if he is sleeps.

I am actually puzzled why you thought that issues were simple and easily fixed. Are you by any chance new to the country.

LHL's playing of Change will eliminate the fundamental political ground and capital of so call moderate opposition, whose vote came from the low-risk ranting of issues that made PAP unpopular. When LHL appeared to be eliminating these issues himself the moderate oppositions are unable to claim much credit because the changes are Not Implemented by these oppositions but LHL. That means LHL took your roles as moderate opposition..

LHL is well supported by jokers like LWK, TPL, Irene Ng, Janil, FMH, LTY, VB, Josephine Teo, TSL, CCS etc. He has his work cut out fir him!

The problem isn't me, won't be me, but the public or the voters! It is nothing to do with me, I have only one vote if that matters much? I will vote anything but PAP.:p The msg & reasoning that you gave, you must sell to the voters. Can you sell well? Will they buy?

All they can see is LKY + GCT + MBT + WKS etc out, LHL claimed to be changing, reducing pays and reversing unpopular policies, majority voters are going to celebrate like CNY already. How do you stop that? Your position of the past can you retain? If PAP seem to be doing more than you about the CHANGE that people had wanted, are you no compromised then? This is something that convincing me does not help much. I will see a lot of voters starting to be COMPLACENT and SATISFIED and will feel much lesser need for voices from moderate opposition, unless the voices are now changed to one notch up or change other tunes there is no longer the same market nor same values as in the past already.

Because in the past PAP Govt was arrogance and stubborn and not listening. That caused the voters to turn to opposition. Now there a significant swing. Where is the focus of the people going to switch to? It is something that you can only change if you change your own position and voices. LHL is distracting the voters from you by his so called Change already.

There is one thing that any governing party (right now, the PAPzis) cannot give to the people by itself, a parliament in which they do not have a 2/3 majority, which to me is the benchmark for a meaningful world class parliament in which the ruling party cannot make all manner of changes to the constitution without consultation. This is why any opposition (other than a fascist party, perhaps) is important.

And if you think Singaporeans can dispense with opposition because they have the internet to vent, consider what LTY called the negative comments about the PAPzis and Salah Peiling. He and not a few others dismissed them as 'noise'. With six elected opposition MPs, the noise has become a means of engagement.

It is not the point weather SG can dispense with oppo. It is more like the oppo will be forced by LHL's changes to modify themselves or take new positions. It is like the moderate oppo had been telling people for many many years that PAP should not do this and should do that, and people supported oppo's idea and are angry against PAP that they did not change all these years.

Now? Suddenly PAP says I CHANGE!

So LHL played this card that he is doing what the people had wanted which is what the oppos used to say that they should be doing. So now it is done. What is oppo's position now? We can not cry about LKY not leaving cabinet any more, he left! So on so forth.

So oppo is forced to consider their own new positions.

Game is no longer the same now on.
