Lee Hsien Loong's stellar military career

The discussions in this thread are interesting, but the thread title is ludicrous.

You guys must know Lam Chun See....
He wrote a book Good Morming Singapore which talks about his growing up years and touched on his time in the army (4th SMC).

I do not know of him, but heard about hime, and read his blog.

I believe he is from Alpha Coy.

I was a corporal at the battalion, then went to senior term at OCS.

Bro Charlie99, then u should know the late Assoc Prof Ananda Raja (bro of MP Indranee Raja) and maybe Amolat Singh (i guess he was in B Coy, but I noe he is from 4 SMC.)

I remember those guys.
Ananda Raja may be from my platoon?

Where were you, which coy?

This is PRC mode. You can tell there's already a battle Low Thia Khiang vs Li Yeming. Name spelling is so diff.

LKY tried to suck up to the Chinese by adopting Hanyu Pinyin names. When the Chinese offered nothing in return, he abandoned the policy.

It is a good differentiator of localized Chinese from the PRC Chinese.

Not exactly true. There are other Brigadier Generals (or higher) not to have seen any combat.

These include:

BG George Yeo
BG Lee Hsien Yang
MG Chan Chun Sing
BG Tan Chuan Jin
RAdm Teo Chee Hean
RAdm Lui Tuck Yew
BG Yam Ah Mee
LG Lim Chuan Poh
LG Wong Yat Chung
LG Neo Kian Hong

What combat have they seen?

RAdm Lui Fuck You's boat have seen combat 10 years ago on 2 January 2003 near Pedra Branca - Three of his servicewomen were killed in a collision with a Dutch tanker ;)

And he blamed it on the poor sailor not himself

The result, his grandchildren PRC names.

As I said, the rest of the cabinet (his, GCTs LHL's) never followed suit.

I was in A Coy Platoon 2, Section 1, did both Junior and Senior Terms. My OC was CPT Neo Keng Kok. Ko Chee Wah was in my Platoon. He later became the Sword of Honour recepient.

Neo Keng Kok was a LTA at that time.
He was my instructor during Ex Starlight, when I was holding the appt as Platoon Commander.
He treated me like a colleague.
Ko Chee Wah was a very good rugby player (may be the captain) when he was at RI Bras Basah Road.
I believe that he graduated from university before serving NS.
You know of a few of these gentlemen, who may be in A Coy: Bilahari Kausikan (similar to KCW, except not a rugby player), Chay Wai Chuen, Leong Yue Weng,

p.s. Your OC cannot be Neo Keng Kok, but Neo Lam Tong

Yes, bro Charlie99 my mistake, should be CPT Neo Lam Tong. Yes, I do remember those guys you mentioned. Neo Keng Kok was LTA then later posted to SAF Parachute Wing as OC and promoted to CPT.

GCT's children were not in the Pinyin age group. All the ministers' children in teh Pinyin age group kena.

The result, his grandchildren PRC names.

Lee Hsien Loong was born in 1952.

Enlisted in SAF as a Recruit in 1971.

Disrupted his OCS training and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1971.

Went to Cambridge on a President's Scholarship and graduated in 1974. Returned to SAF as a Lieutenant.

He was then promoted to Brigadier General in 1983 (he also disrupted to do a Masters degree at Harvard in 1980).

Basically he served 8 years of active service in the SAF, in which time he was promoted from Lieutenant to BG (that's six ranks).

The ranks of CPT to COL all have two grades each. Meaning that he was promoted NINE times in eight years.

Truly a military legend - I can't think of a General with a record this stellar. Patton, Pershing, Mountbatten, McArthur and Powell are all left trailing in his wake.

Actually, I still contest your claim there are two ranks in CPT, MAJ, LTC and COL
