Chitchat Lawrence Wrong says GST is 7% (not 9%) for the poor!

Talk cock…the gst vouchers used for buying the goods & services are once again subjected to gst.

It is called lam par pak lan.

Will he give permanent GST vouchers to lower and middle-income individuals, resulting in lower GST payments than 7%?

so he is saying 500SGD GST vouchers can amount to whole year of GST 9%???

If i earn 2500 and spent 2000, i pay 180 GST which amounts to 2160 SGD a year.

But the GST is only for one year and only 500SGD.

Not to say those earning 3k,4k,5k and above...

Maths is empirical, absolute & does not lie. Lets do some mental exercise.

Let's start with year 2024 based upon essentials as a baseline, as inflation of 4% annually is common, along with black swan events such as wars that drives up costs to manufacturers & supply chains, which results in the consumer often bearing cost at the final purchase of a product.

Profile of a low wage below middle income person:-

He/she probably lives with parents, unmarried, earns an avg basic salary of $2000/mth,

A) Each day basic expenditure solely on essentials, not recreation:-
1. Coffee/Tea = $1.30 cts. gst 9% had been factored into such final purchase cost = 14cts. 3 cups per day = est 42cts.

2. 3 meals a day at hawker stalls = $5/meal, $15/day = gst 9% factored in = est $1.50

3. Bus/MRT rides to & from work = $4/day = gst 9% factored in = est 30 cts /day.

Total costs for daily expenditures = 42cts + $1.50cts +30cts = $2.20cts/day or $66/mth. or est $800/yr.

Thus, the lower income salary income person contributes to the indirect tax of gst for national social expenditure of $800/mth or est 7% of his/her annual salary.

B) However, there are tax payers funded initiatives to assist them, such as CDC vouchers, low cost medical expenses, etc. Just even CDC vouchers alone, in 2024 they received $600. Also gstv in cash of est $850.

C ) In Singapore, we leave no one behind. Those whom are well off tend to spend more & should be appreciated for their kind efforts to support the economy to keep money CIRCULATED. Those whom have less do have an Elected govt, comprising of both incumbent & opposition parties, ready to help & support them thru Parliamentary discussions to find solutions..

Therefore, deduce from the figures of what are the realities of gst for the lower income group in Singapore.

It is with sadness that the insignificant nobody me knew of Deputy Prime Minister Heng's retirement. Among his many varied portfolios in service to our Nation, he had worked long & hard & endless hours to uplift Singaporeans lives, & even suffered a stroke during his term as the Finance Minister of Singapore in 2016.

I can understand the stresses that he had been, & yet after recovery, he COURAGEOUSLY continued to serve Singaporeans, as me too, once blacked out with the stresses laid upon me on the requirements of my service, nothing compared to what Mr Heng had to go thru...

There were emails requiring & screaming for solutions, not motherhood statements but facts & figures unlike aspiring politicians of today. My body & mind could not take it all at once, & my mind blacked out, just banged upon my hard oak desk & even that did not woke me up. There was no else in my office in the early hours of the morning, & when my body & mind eventually recovered, I discovered 2hrs had passed....

I am only a nobody, but there are many, many more within ELECTED govt ministries & civil servants whom work TIRELESSLY behind the scenes, to uplift citizens' lives, often unknown & unheard, nor sought for acknowledgements, only that they had sacrificed to uplift the lives of others.....DPM Mr Heng is one of them....

The pressures are great, May Mr Heng finally gets to relax for all the years & efforts that he had done to uplift citizens lives. There will be many more whom are in his mold, knowledge & integrity to continue the journey that our great Founding fathers such as the late Dr Goh Keng Swee, whom had set the path for all & future innocent generations of Singaporeans to come...

Noone, and no oppies has ever mentioned that GST should not be blanketed to pte pharmaceuticals companies for essential medical products.
This is the worst among all gsts becos those products are already fucking expensive even without GST.
And to make matter worst, those are essentials and not optional.

Talk cock sing song. Everyone knows that after GST increased to 9%, which is just a 2% increase from previous 7%, many food operators jitao take advantage to increase most food prices at food court and coffeeshop by more than 10% with some as high as 40% giving excuses by citing various ranjiao reasons. so its like 5X to 20x more than the 2% increase in GST.

This fellow needs to be thrown into 18 levels of hell without knowing such policy impact WTF is really happening on the ground.

SDP did mention during the rallies to propose for GST to be exempted for everyday essentials and for medical costs to be lowered:

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) on Saturday (Apr 19) launched its campaign slogan for the General Election.

In unveiling its slogan, called "Thrive, Not Just Survive", the party asked for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to be reduced from 9 per cent to "7 per cent or even 5 per cent", and for it to be scrapped for everyday essentials.

"This means more money stays in your pocket so that you stress less and live more," it said.

It added that medical costs should be lowered, so people can "focus on living a healthy life without the constant worry of hospital bills".

What I have mentioned is very different from what sdp had brought up.
Medical cost are not just about hospital bills. This can be addressed by medical insurance.
The silent killer is the outpatient pte pharmaceuticals companies who are making a silent killing.
Such items are classified as non standardise drugs, and not covered by any pte medical insurance either, no matter what kind of plan you take up.
Eg of such items are
Feeding bags
Feeding pump
Colostomy bags
Hundreds kind of Colostomy products
The list goes on and on

lol highest pay ed pat hol ogi cal liiiiiiiiaaaaaaarrrrrrrs :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

gst robs d poor to pay d rich :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

before gst rich man tax was 40% after gst is was reduced to 30%, then to 20%

now stands at 23%, mens a saving of 17% every yr since gst

corporate tax was at 40%, after gst it was reduced, now stands at 17%

estate duty was abolished on 15 feb 2008

1 tier dividend tax was introduce from 1 jan 2008

before 1 tier div tx, div flows to personal income n is taxed at personal tax rate ie rich man is taxed at 40% while retired n jobless will get a refund if the div is less than their taxable income

after 1 tier div tax rich man get a huge discount from 40% to 17%, saving 23% while poor man who used to get a refund, now effectively pays corporate tx of 17% n gst, ie his tax liability has effectively increased from 0 to 17% plus gst of 9% on whatever he spends

so after gst, rich man is saving 17% on income tax every year n 23% on div tx and ofc no longer subject to estate duty

so gas where the shortfall comes from?? drop from heaven ?? :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

The insignificant nobody me do agree with you on the huge pharma costs.

A pack of panadol cost only $5 years ago, Today it is $15 for the SAME pack & effects. What's going on?

An MRI scan cost WHOOPING Thousand dollars. Even after medisave deductibles, the common Citizen STILL has to pay at least $600 for such scans in cash? What's going on? What happened to free market to find other sources?

It is fine with me IF such profits gained from big Pharma were meant to help African or other 3rd World Nations to survive, but what Humankind SAW were big Pharma bosses & execs living the high life for themselves & their non medical field progenies - luxury cars, homes, yachts, etc, etc. interfering in International Politics.

Thus, how much had SUCH PROFITS had been used to uplift other lives, AT OUR EXPENSE as well as open hearted doctors & medical staff volunteers in San Medical Frontiers whom reach out to our World braving harsh conditions to save lives while big Pharma bosses & execs lived the high life?

That's why PrezTrump is going after big Pharma next, to help bring down big Pharma's horrendous prices which is against the very tenets of Hippocrates' principle, to save lives. It will not be easy as big Pharma is WELL ENTRENCHED, with links even to WHO & the medical industries & fields. He needs all the support he can get....

A mri scan from a gov hospital cost about $1k+ and need to queue for many months.
For urgent case, they will advise you go pte which cost about $4-5k

Something is very wrong here.
