I am putting my money on both the Swiss and Brit not getting the cane, but will be heavily fined. Our justice system has changed alot since Michael Fay's case. With an acting AG in place, I second that. The charge will be reduced to trepass, followed by fine and 1 day token jail. The govt will claim that paint is not permanent.

The comment by the Swiss embassy is cryptic and they will follow the Germans. It will take a few months of representations to the AG, and also to get time to erase the incident from the public mind. Very similar to the German girl and the Oz journalist.
