the undergrad teaching situation is ok, but i would not say its good. tons of lecturers that cannot speaks simple english clearer, there is no need for fancy english in my section, but at least you must be able to convey your idea CLEARLY. Teaching assistants in practicals many are not even qualified to teach, most are fresh graduates students from 3rd tier asian universities. many do not know what the shit the experiments are about (tons of these useless idiots will dropout of the phd programs, yes these are the idiots that are being thrown to teach and guide the students there when they themselves do not know what the fuck is going on).

I was also thinking of the learning environment. University is not only about grades. It's a chance to develop one's life skills, networking, mixing socially, etc.

I remember reading that bermuda shorts were banned in one of the local U's. In Spore rules & regulations are more important than people. Maybe that's why there's a problem of nurturing creativity. There's very little give in our system.

I've very little experience with the local U system. My only experience is from talking & observing with one colleague who graduated with an engineering degree. In the american MNC I was working with, there was only 1 local grad My other Sporean colleagues had degrees from UK, Canada, & Australia. If they were angmo, they would be considered as FT

She gets bored after a coiuple years later and wants to have warm weather. Gets a job with Temasek. Get bored and same person makes contact and now with biggest law firm and has no law degree. Her cousins, both are NS defaulters.

Another ex -Singaporean came to work in a Bank in Singapore as Aunty chief legal. She gets bored after a year and they get her a job in SIA Sydney.

What u mention is not really elite people, more like connected people. Elite people don't take a salaried job or job hop due to boredom. Not that I know of anyway.

I mention EDB because the elites I know belong to families who have large business holdings in Singapore and Malaysia. They are related to Familee by marriage. One of them joins EDB even though he has no business or econs degree. Gets posted to China, where his job is to meet big China players under the guise of getting them to invest in singapore and what not. But what is really happening is they are making business contacts for their own family business and setting up business deals with china people for their family business, all the while getting paid very nice salary by EDB along with the housing and travel perks. After a spell with EDB, resign and than go back to their family business.
