eighth one oncologist Anil Potti has been forced to retract. .........retracting the paper because it was based on a method they now believe is unreliable.......
In addition to the eight retractions, Potti’s research has been the subject of a number of partial retractions and around a dozen corrections, in a variety of medical journals.
Potti, who resigned under fire from Duke in the fall of 2010, also has been the subject of an
official reprimand by the North Carolina Medical Board, which found him to be
guilty of "unprofessional conduct" at Duke ........
The oncologist.... additionally
faces two lawsuits by nine patients who took part in clinical trials he supervised. Eleven other such cases have already been settled for at least $75,000 each, according to the medical board.......
Potti first came under scrutiny in the summer of 2010 after questions arose that he had
falsely claimed to be a Rhodes Scholar and then about the scientific integrity of his research.
A
Duke investigation subsequently found that he had indeed embellished his credentials and that the
scientific work was faulty.
In addition to the internal investigation, an outside review of Potti’s research is being conducted by the national Institute of Medicine.
The institute's report is expected in the next few months.
