Re: IGP’s relatives become victims of armed robbers

and seriously, whatever they do will be all talk no action.

I think this time the action will start... The recent 2 high profile shootings of the banker and the MyWatch chairman have suddenly thrust the security situation into the limelight and are making politicians start to sit up. Last night I was watching rtm 1 news which is usually very very pro-govt anti-opposition and was surprised that a pretty big segment was reporting on the recent spate of shootings, giving a brief description of all the recent ones dating back the past few months. So, the recent 2 killings may well be the "tipping point" where the politicians decide ok enuf is enuf...either the criminals get locked up, or the politicians get kicked out. Remember, UMNO having party elections in Oct 5. And the recent combi bad news of Fitch downgrading the country's economic outlook from stable to negative certainly rubs salt to the overall situation.

Re: IGP’s relatives become victims of armed robbers

It will likely be tough to change this anytime soon..

They have been talking about this for quite some time already. Complacency will start to set in.. the increase over the years of gated and guarded communities is a strong indication that the feeling of security is failing.

I sincerely hope that this situation will improve.

In the past 1-2 years, they have been in denial and simply dismissing the complaints of high crime rate as a mere "perception issue" fabricated by the opposition, some sort of political agenda. Now, they are being forced to eat their words simply because when the victims of crime are becoming closer to people they know or who are in their social circle (ie. minister, IGP's relative, high profile banker, head of NGO, gynaecologist etc), it is like the problem has suddenly become so much closer to them and larger than life to ignore any longer.

Re: IGP’s relatives become victims of armed robbers

A lady from Spore was kidnapped and robbed and dump ( I heard naked but not sure ) in Senai last week. Scary

Is this the same woman reported in this news today as below?

When she went to Johor Baru to collect her medication on Tuesday morning, Madam Rajeswary Kartigeyan (above) expected it to be another routine trip across the Causeway.
But to her horror, the 64-year-old Malaysian, who lives with her youngest son in Singapore, found herself in a harrowing two-hour nightmare.
Madam Rajeswary said she was abducted by at least three people outside Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
She was bundled into the back seat of a car, bound, blindfolded and gagged with tape, and told she would be “murdered” if she did not comply with their demands.
They then robbed her of her money and valuables, and dumped her at an oil palm plantation.

So she was not stripped naked lah, some wld just exaggerate, the gunning down by contract killers is not new, I know of a close friend whom father n mother were shot dead, case unsolved, n my dad's business partner who got gunned down, if you do not run big business or involve in chasing after crooks like the anti corruption unit, not so much to worry about for ordinary folks...or you don't flash roleks and blink-blink carats on your hands and fingers....in sg also for nothing you sit on bus also get killed, crime alert signboard also getting nearer you each day....saw one opposite my place yesterday...but if you have no heart for all these, just stay at home and watch TV and stash your cash in your pillow.

Be wary of the taxi drivers in Msia, especially for ladies travelling alone. Luckily this lady is not molested/raped (former JP stewardess should be a looker)

PETALING JAYA, Aug 2 — Criminals masquerading as taxi drivers are continuing to spread terror in the Klang Valley. The latest case involved a Japanese national who was robbed and assaulted in Selayang.

Despite being slashed a number of times, the 26-year-old former flight attendant, who is in Malaysia to study English, managed to escape.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, told The Malay Mail she hailed a taxi at Publika about 8pm last Friday but got suspicious when the driver asked her if he could make a U-turn.

After 10 minutes of driving in the wrong direction, she started feeling uncomfortable and asked the driver repeatedly to stop the taxi.

“Every time I asked him to stop, he was silent. Finally, he turned into a dark alley and said, ‘Do you want me to kill you?’“ she said.

The driver grabbed her arm when she tried to open the car door.

He took out a parang from under the front passenger’s seat and slashed her several times before grabbing her bag containing her belongings.

“I just knew I had to escape. I managed to get out of the taxi and kept running without looking back,” she said.

She was found unconscious and bleeding by two Samaritans, who took her to Selayang Hospital.

While recovering in hospital, she said, she resolved to share her experience so that other women would not fall victim.

“I am disappointed by what happened, but many Malaysians have been kind to me.

“When women become victims of crimes they may want to keep quiet and ignore what happened, but we must be brave and speak out,” she said.

Re: IGP’s relatives become victims of armed robbers

They are talking about eradicating crimes since Mahahir era which was like almost 20 years ago. 20 years later, Welcome to a Malaysia which is now on par with the safety level of Mexicos where gunmen are as common as Singapore 's lift thieves

Common in spore's lift thieves? I dont always heard such news. But i do understand everyday traffic, road accidents death are a common sight in Spore.

nowadays in sg, so many police crime notification board placed in every neighbourhood's corner. c@@l. eye catching :D

Actually our SPF is quite useless. The few dealings I have had with them left me disappointed. They are like any civil servant I meet in other countries. slow, rude, inefficient, etc... the only thing working for them is the govt controlled media, which prevents the truth from leaking out.

not too long ago, my car was scratched by someone who didn't like me parking outside his house. (no double yellow line) so when I went to lodge the police report, the police said, "then don't park there." I was like  wtf!!! it wasn't like I wanted to park there, but SG govt doesn't like to build car parks if you know what I mean. and there were construction works going on at my "regular" spot. And the policeman added that "you know, some ppl wont even bother to lodge this report. some ppl just let it go."

then there was another incident when I went to a police station to make an enquiry. just as I stepped pass the gate, a policeman came up to me and went "ya! what you want?!"

our men in blue are not what they are made out to be. I used to believe that they are our protectors. but now...... sigh... I let you guys draw your own conclusions.

SPF expect you to install CCTV in yr car to catch the nottiboy. "G" to the power of 5 (Gig Gag Gu Gig Gag).
wah do you think?:D

Many are serving their NS. When you force people to waste 2 years of their time doing cheap $500 a month labour while u import milli0ns of trash to replace them, how would they feel ? The youngsters feel angry towards the ft and I think they are right in doing so. If they are Malaysians or Indonesians, I am quite sure the country will see riots for the unfair treatment towards own citizens

Foreign talents and workers are a must for Singapore to move forward. It is just that the benefits from GDP growth do not filter down to the citizens, who bore the brunt of the policies e.g. overcrowding, inflation etc. Iskandar just happens to be at the right place at the right time to benefit from the unhappy citizens (and long time PRs).

Men in blue as our protectors...maybe they just see it as a job? Btw SPRs also can join as policeman. Just wondering when conflicts arise between their fellow countrymen and Singapore citizens, what is there to ensure they will not side their own countrymen? We already see foreign office managers hiring and protecting their own kind.

Eh? How you know??? that's what they wanted me to do!!! told me to install my own camera... and you know what??? they told me that even if they can identify the culprit, I would still need to get a magistrates order before they can arrest that guy??? so I was like WTF for the third time.

if I need to do all these things myself, then why do I even bother to go to the station to lodge a report???

I lived in USA and Canada for 6 years. I thought the police there are useless. little did I expect our SPF to be also useless and rude. sigh... at least an American citizen has the right to bear arms. he can protect himself. in sg, we are on our own.
