KUALA LUMPUR - The barking of her pet dog saved actress Chris Tong from having her RM300,000 (S$124,500) Mercedes-Benz SLK car-jacked in Taman Yulek, Cheras.

The 29-year-old former beauty queen, who had acted in several local and Singaporean dramas and movies, had just finished a meeting with a client in Jalan Kuchai Lama late on Monday night on her work in a new movie, said a source.

She had gone to get supper when the incident occurred early Tuesday morning.

Tong was walking back to her car after buying some food from a stall when she was suddenly beaten on the back by an assailant.

When she fell on the ground, she realised that the attacker wanted to seize her car keys.

"However, her Maltese which was in the car, barked loudly when it saw her being attacked.

"The noise alerted a stall owner nearby, who shouted at the assailant," the source said.

The source added that the attacker, who was believed to be alone, ran away when he saw members of the public running towards him.

Tong later lodged a police report and went for a check-up at a hospital in the area. She received outpatient treatment for minor injuries on her hands and face.

A police spokesman confirmed the matter but no arrest had been made so far.

Malaysia police to set up new crime prevention department
By Farik Zolkepli and Steven Chiew

The Star/Asia News Network | Thu, May 23, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR - The police force will have a new department which will formulate long-term strategies to prevent and reduce crime.

The new Crime Prevention Department is expected to start at the end of the month, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said.

He said the new department, to be set up at Bukit Aman as well as at the state and district levels, will not make strategies on an ad hoc basis.

"It is not about organising a mere crime prevention campaign ... it is about strategies that will have impact.

"The strategies will consist of tactical approaches that will lead to faster reduction of crime
," he said at his first media meeting since succeeding Tan Sri Ismail Omar as the IGP at Bukit Aman yesterday.

Khalid said that among areas of focus were reducing street crime, crime against children and shooting cases.

He said that with the new department's efforts to deal with crime prevention, the Criminal Investigation Department could focus solely on investigating crime.

It is also my wish that they focus less on politics including investigating opposition politicians and instead focus more on crime that affects the ordinary man in the street.

Wah lau she is lucky she never got raped as she is a beauty queen. I think the robber wanted her sports car and her sexy body to enjoy..

Kuchai Lama is not exactly the place lone sexy ladies would like to hang out with till late!

Anyway Johor Bahru is better. Here in JB car thieves at most smash your windows every night along Nusa Bestari to Bukit Indah and Coastal Highway. Seldom whack people. Maybe once a week. Generally its still safer than Geylang

...oh ok...I guess I misunderstood alnine......he is actually telling us JB is safer than KL.......like the rest he is highlighting that it is worse in other parts of Msia, JB is the safest place in Msia.....

Motorcycle helmet not good enough, buy kevlar and bullet proof vests. Folks going by Kallang Bahru best wear rape proof underwear, note that it was Kallang Bahru, not Johor Bahru.

Best to change your Nick to SGbest (not DAPbest  ) as i am now convinced by your argument to go back and invest more in Singapore as there are no crime, no victims, no rape, no criminals at all. Can you recommend me your agency so i can look at your listings? It is all clean, green but we will all be very lean. Those who lost their heads in crimes must have banged and somehow lost their heads by themselves.

No more worries about rape cases in early daytime(Kallang Bahru), regular gang wars/drug peddling in Geylang or daily at least 4 cases of molest.

These are all not true at all. Low crime reported = No crime for some it seems. People stabbed overseas, thats terrible, unsafe cannot cannot.
People die or pushed own the railing of their own flat = Safe, no worries.

A man, in his 40s, is lying in hospital, recovering from what was an apparent fight that left a bloody scene on a Geylang road at about 1.15am on Friday.

He is now believed to be in a stable condition at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Police said they received a call for assistance at about 1.15am at Geylang Lorong 17. When the officers arrived, they found the victim lying injured, but conscious.

A spokesman for the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that an ambulance was dispatched to the scene, and the man had "sustained serious injuries".

No guns in Singapore? Sun Plaza and Ang Mo Kio are all overseas too?

Man caught with gun at Ang Mo Kio charged

Jessica Lim
Thu, Jun 03, 2010
The Straits Times

AN UNEMPLOYED man came into possession of a semi-automatic pistol when his friend, who was about to be arrested for drug offences, gave it to him a decade ago.

But despite the possible consequences, Low Hua Choon kept the pistol and in July last year, took the Colt M1991A1 - which contained five rounds of ammunition - on a run to sell smuggled contraband cigarettes.

These details emerged yesterday when the 41-year-old was convicted in a district court.

Today - Afternoon Edition*, 22 June 2006, Page 10
ACCUSED FOUND DEAD IN CELL

SINGAPORE : The man charged in the Sun Plaza armed robbery case was found dead in his cell on Tuesday.
Chan Bing Chaw, 59, was found hanging in his cell with a T-shirt around his neck.

The T-shirt was secured to a ventilation grille on the wall above the cell door.

Chan, an inmate at Queenstown Remand Prison, was pronounced dead at 11.45am.

He was charged in February with attempting to shoot at a security guard at the Sun Plaza Shopping Mall.

He had earlier snatched S$4,000 from a cashier at a lottery outlet in Sun Plaza.

Chan had been in remand pending the court hearing.

Police have classified the case as unnatural death and are investigating. - CNA /ct

High speed chases are also common, only thing is luckily this was on the highway and no lives lost in this case.
Please use your regular nick to post so at least some consistency there.

http://www.straitstimes.com/breakin...high-speed-chase-punggol-shenton-way-20130326

A 31-year old Singaporean driver had two police vehicles hot on his wheels in a 15km high-speed chase on Monday night, which spanned from around Punggol West to Shenton Way. He was eventually nabbed for driving while under disqualification, and for his rash act.

IPOH, Malaysia - A wanted man fleeing from the police in his car mowed through a crowd of wedding guests, killing an 18-month-old boy and injuring two others.

Patrolmen chasing the suspect aborted their pursuit to help rush the victims to the Kampar Hospital, following the tragic 10pm incident at Kampung Baru New Kopisan in Gopeng, about 25km from here, on Saturday.

Due to his injuries, T.Thamilarasan was transferred to the Raja Permai-suri Bainun Hospital here, where he died at around 5am yesterday.

The suspect, said to have at least 13 criminal and drug-related records, escaped.

Thamilarasan was with his family, who were seated beneath a canopy with other wedding guests, when the suspect's speeding car crashed through them.

The child's father, T. Thenarasu, 24, said his son suffered severe head injuries and was quickly rushed to the Kampar Hospital.

The lorry driver said a two-year-old boy was also injured and a 58-year-old woman broke her leg in the incident. Both have been warded at the hospital.

Kampar OCPD Supt Ng Kong Soon said the policemen were on duty at a road block along the Kampar-Gopeng road when they spotted the suspect in his car.

A high-speed chase followed, that ended at the wedding function in the village.
......are we talking abt JB or Msia as a whole?...if so how do Msia as a whole measure up statistically per capita crime ratio compared to Singapore?

Nine JB robbery gang and house break-in suspects nabbed

Star - May 28, 2013

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested nine suspects aged between 21 and 45 in two separate robbery cases.

The suspects were believed to be part of two gang robbery syndicates involved in at least 23 cases relating to house break-ins, vehicle theft and gang robberies, said state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff.

He added that the suspects were nabbed on May 13 and May 23 respectively. DCP Mohd Mokhtar said that in the latest case, two men broke into a house in Permas Jaya and robbed the premises while five family members were inside at around 12.30pm on last Thursday.

“Thanks to the neighbours’ alert reaction in contacting the authorities, policemen managed to rush to the scene in just a few minutes,” he said at a press conference at the state police headquarters here yesterday.

Police officers managed to arrest the robbers and rescue the family members which included a woman and two children, said DCP Mohd Shariff.

The police seized two sharp weapons and retrieved items that the robbers had attempted to steal. This included cash, a laptop, a watch and 10 electronic gadgets.

Meanwhile, in the May 13 case, the police arrested seven men and seized a car that had been reported missing in Skudai.

Various tools , nine machetes, knifes and a pair of handcuffs were seized.

On a separate matter, Johor Baru North de*puty OCPD Supt Beh Eng Lai said that they had brought in two suspects to assist in the investigation of a recent ATM break-in on May 25.

A gang broke into the ATM located inside a shopping centre in Taman Universiti using a blowtorch and carted away more than RM400,000 at around 2am.

“The suspects sprayed the CCTV with black paint but we could still make out three or four silhouettes from the footage.

“We suspect that it is an inside job as the thieves took three hours to pry open the two ATM machines,” he said.

JOHOR BARU - A routine walk, the same that a 40-year-old clerk had done for the past 20 years, turned fatal after she was attacked by a snatch thief. Tar Bee Lin died due to severe head injuries.

She was walking alone to a bus-stop near her house in Taman Century here at around 8am on May 23 when a man in a motorcycle approached her.

The snatch thief then hit her on the back of the head with a blunt object, causing her to fall onto the side of the road.

He then grabbed Tar's backpack containing her laptop, house keys and some clothes.

Concerned passers-by who noticed Tar lying on the ground quickly alerted the police.

An ambulance later rushed her to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for emergency treatment.

Tar's sister, who declined to be named, said that her sister slipped into a coma at around noon that day and passed away on Sunday night.

"She went to work daily by bus to Taman Molek for the past 20 years.

"She was supposed to return to Paloh to celebrate Wesak Day with our family members after work that day," she said.

She added that Tar's body would be brought back to Paloh for the funeral.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Yaacob confirmed the case. He urged witnesses or those with information to call the police hotline at 07-221 2999.

Yes very sad case. I wonder if the backpack was the give away that she had a laptop that motivated the robber to attack.
There are nice looking backpack that are obviously design to carry laptop.
I also understand from some locals that Taman Century and Taman Sentosa are not the safest place in JB.

If you look at our tax system and financial setup, it also favours the rich. One FT told me he loves our tax system here. He is a single so he work for 5-7 years, save up his money and with the low personal tax rate he keeps most of what he earns. He then move back to his home land or USA and with it his accumulated wealth and his CPF total withdrawal as he has no plan to come back here to work.
