I could not help but notice that many in this forum tend to treat the AWARE episode as one between pro and anti-gay. Neither is it between christians and non-christians. Unfortunately, anyone hoping that any discussion on homosexuality will remain secular is seriously out of touch with reality.

6 people got into AWARE on false pretext and it seems in a genuine belief that AWARE actively supports gay and their lifestyle. Living in a world where white lies has an existence and acceptable is truly delusionalThey were thrown out more for their conduct than what they believed in. One cannot help but notice that the pro-gay lobby had a field day for this error in judgement by the 6.

I am pretty certain that the majority of Singaporeans are concerned about the need to protect family values and the institution of marriage between members of the opposite sex. I am absolutely certain that the majority would not allow children to be adopted or born while in a same sex union whether formalised by marriage or not. The child too has rights.

Many have remained silent to be politically correct or to avoid being labelled unfashionable but the time is near when rational Singaporeans have to decide what that roadmap needs to be. Failing which another misguided 6 will emerge and society will be divisive for all the wrong reasons.

One must however be mindful that heterosexuals, homosexuals and transgenders are members of the human race. All contribute to society, have feelings and wants, and generally need society's acceptance. Then there are deviants and one finds them everywhere including heterosexuals.

The misguided 6 and their followers might want to start their own group to push their agenda and I also expect members of the gay community will push theirs. One must not assume that all groups whether pro-fmaily or not will have identical agendas.

how many times must i tell u people...homo where got right? why 377 is still there??

if it is God's word that motivate them to do the things they do, how can they be misguided?

you are once again bias in saying they are misguided. if they believed AWARE has been supporting and expanding gay & lez rights, of course it is natural for them to do what they have been expected to do...

the issue not anti-gay...but anti-growing gay voices and influence into our society...

only people who believed in themselves or men will be clueless where they are heading..worse using secular interests as a front for growing homosexual voices..

the future is bleak for our country...so what's new?

GAY IS ILLEGAL IN SGP!!!!

Section 377A of the Penal Code of Singapore is the main remaining piece of legislation which criminalises sex between mutually consenting adult men.

Section 377A ("Outrages on decency") states that:

Any male person who, in public or private, commits, or abets the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years.

from what i have observed...at least at this moment in time, majority of singgies are conservative pro conventional family regardless of race, religion or gender...so i think the LGBT gang better not push their luck too far on this one...unfortunate and regrettable perhaps, but i think that is the local reality for the time being...Robox and his ilk please take note:wink:

Yes. I hope the LGBT gang do not think that it a victory for them or the support for the old guards is translated as support for the LGBT cause.

LOL! But this only applies to gay...male person, not the lesbians?

For me, it is pretty straight forward. Whatever people do with their private lives as long as it does not affect other members of the society, that is none of my business.

Meaning, if you like to gossips around about things privately, that is none of my business. Similarly, if you like to poke each other's backside with the consent of the other party, that is none of my business too, even though personally I do not like what you do. If you like to eat durians in private which I find the smell unbearable, it is none of my business too. Even if you want to smoke in a private room when I find it unhealthy to you, it is none of my business too.

Of course, there are certain things that I mind: conspire against the Nation in private, abusing drugs that will caused trouble to the society due to addiction, casino gambling as well... even when all these are done in private but ultimately, it will cause social problems, then it is something I would like to have a say.

If you would go all out against the building of casino, I would support you but against other people's choice of living their sexual life? Then why not protest the existence of legalized brothels in Singapore instead?

There is a fine thin line in morality on what could be impose unto others and what could not.

Dear Scroobal

Let me lay out the state of the LGB debate and the fears of the christian right. That aside the christian right hard core is I believe going the way of the dinosaur with their supporters been markedly older then the more vibrant younger supporters of the liberal Aware.

Xtian Right

Their fears are founded on what they see as an erosion of family values and what they believe a family should stand for. They see any advancement of gay rights as one step to far on the road to eventual gay union, gay rights and possible gay partnership recognition. For them no ground is to be given because any ground given is a step forward into a more liberal future which they see coming and they fear. Please read the christianpost.com.sg for a concise summary of such a view and why they see any basic form of advancement of gay rights as the end of the "moral world" they live in. Thus abolition of section 377(a) , teaching of homosexuality as normal, etc etc has to be resisted to the dying breathe, lines are drawn which cannot be crossed, nations and government have gone to far etc etc etc. :_)))))

Funnily enough COOS will preach that they will not discriminate against gays in terms of jobs pay etc but will oppose open acceptance of gays in society and the civil service at large. I can't square that circle, how does one condemn gays or their conduct evil immoral and still expect society not to discriminate against them ?

The ending of discrimination means acceptance and the fact they are normal like you me and the guy next door. That was proven in civil rights cases from the US to S Africa . Demonization results in discrimination from the US to S Africa to Rwanda.

Their morality, ideological roots come from the evangelical christian right in America. They have also forgotten that whilst half of America goes to church, the numbers of christians in SG are a lot lot less.

Middle Ground

Acceptance at large. Not so wow abt gay civil unions or gay marriage but no problem at large with accepting gays as a normal healthy part of society. Can't understand the fixation of the COOS and TSM camp over anal sex, oral sex and homosexuality. Half of these group probably fornicate around in Geylang Batam , KTVs and have affairs both the men and women so they can't understand or see the perfect moral world the Xtian right lives in.

The government I believe falls into that camp because they have realized that economically vibrant and creative societies from London New York, Tokyo Sydney SF LA Boston etc etc tend to be progressive and accepting of gays and the people tend to fornicate quite liberally.

Pro Gay Rights

They want everything including Gay Marriage and Same Sex Unions and the right to adopt. In short the full gay agenda as defined by the christian right. But in SG they will be happy with the repeal of sect 377(a) as a start. How much further will they push for full liberalization , well jury is still out, but the Christian Right fears the absolute worse
