Reclaiming Truth: Holding Rice Media to Account 3 years on with Geteven.AI
In 2021, Raymond Ng filed a lawsuit against Rice Media (DC/DC 1231/2021) after they published a defamatory article that painted a harmful and inaccurate picture of him and our vending business. When the article was published, we reached out to Rice Media and begged them to interview us to present our side of the story. They refused.
The Rice Media article was months before I started speaking up about the Covid-19 Vaccinations. Due to various constraints, including inadequate counsel and an overly complex Statement of Claim, the lawsuit required thousands of pages of evidence from our side, with limited responsibility on Rice Media to substantiate their claims. Today, with a clearer focus and stronger legal foundation, we are prepared to revisit this case, not only to clear Raymond’s name but also to set a precedent for responsible journalism.
The Personal Impact and Broader Implications
The article in question marked the beginning of a difficult period for us. Shortly after its publication, Raymond faced police investigations, and although no charges have been filed to date, the stigma and public scrutiny have been persistent. The article’s portrayal fueled misinterpretations that distanced friends and brought strain into our personal and professional lives. Our experience, while deeply personal, raises a broader concern about the power of media to shape public perception in ways that can have lasting and often severe consequences.
Many individuals, faced with similar pressures, might not have the resilience to withstand such scrutiny. Our decision to pursue legal action is motivated not only by a desire to restore Raymond’s reputation but also by a commitment to ensure that others are not subjected to similar experiences without accountability.
Remembering Geno Ong’s Story
One particularly painful example of the potential impact of public narratives is the tragic story of Geno Ong, who came to believe certain harmful depictions, despite having no direct involvement with Raymond and myself. In fact, we have never even met her or spoken to her before. While I do not claim that this article alone led to her distress, I believe that unchecked narratives, like the one Rice Media’s article contributed to, can lead to misunderstandings that impact lives in unexpected and sometimes devastating ways. Her story is a reminder of the responsibility that all media outlets have to approach their work with care and integrity.
Holding Rice Media Accountable
Raymond’s aim is not to create fear but to encourage accountability. As seen in Lee Hsien Loong vs. Leong Sze Hian, sharing defamatory content can have serious consequences. Therefore, he is prepared to hold accountable not only Rice Media but also individuals and platforms who shared their article without verification, as this spread the narrative further and amplified the impact on lives.
The ultimate goal here is to protect others from facing what we have experienced by setting a strong example. Journalism plays a vital role in our society, and with that role comes the responsibility to report fairly and accurately.
From Adversity to Advocacy: GetEven.AI
Through this journey, we’ve come to realize the need for a new path to justice that is accessible to all. We have spent more than $100,000 so far in legal fees to hold Rice Media to account and sadly it still wasn’t enough to get the justice he deserved. Despite providing more than 6000 pages of proof of the legitimacy of our business, till today, the article is still up and people are still using it to brush him aside, cast doubt and accuse him of being a scammer. The damage is too big.
Rice Media ultimately relied on the testimony of a deceased individual, Wayne Xin Quan to discontinue the lawsuit. Wayne was a Vendshare Franchisee who had financially supported our lawsuit against Rice Media. His financial support was substantial as he knew that Raymond hadn’t committed fraud. Unfortunately, due to differences over my COVID-19 vaccine stance, we had many arguments and he later turned against us, becoming Rice Media’s “key”witness. Despite claiming to have evidence of alleged misconduct, Rice Media never substantiated this claim. Wayne was in his twenties when he passed away suddenly. Cause unknown.
Recently, we researched and discovered that the lawsuit was not dismissed with prejudice, meaning that Raymond would be free to relaunch it. He intends to proceed and continue the defamation lawsuit against Rice Media, Mr Mark Tan, and Mr Ivan Ku. Three years on, AI has transformed justice and he intends to leverage on it to avoid legal pitfalls and present a robust case.
This experience has led him to develop GetEven.AI, a platform that allows individuals to pursue legal claims responsibly and fairly, regardless of their social or financial standing with minimum costs. Using his background in mathematics and technology, he designed this model to enable people to seek justice where they might otherwise face insurmountable barriers.
This platform is not about retribution; it’s about evening the playing field between those who are rich enough to engage an army of lawyers in protracted lawsuits and those who are simply seeking justice to right wrongs. GetEven.AI will allow individuals who feel wronged by powerful entities to stand up for their rights, just like what we are doing right now.
A Call for Fairness and Accountability
We are taking this stand not out of hatred but out of a deeply felt need for justice. Rice Media’s article and its ripple effects in mainstream media have left a lasting impact on our lives. Our goal is to see journalism held to a standard where individuals are respected and where narratives are based on facts, not assumptions.
If you share this commitment to fairness and accountability from Mainstream Media and wish to follow our progress, please submit your name. If you are interested to support our endeavours to call for Media accountability or you are interested to explore the GetEven.AI software, do feel free to reach out to us too.
Together, we can foster a society where truth prevails, and where individuals have a means to protect their integrity. Thank you.
