Watch the exclusive video interview here:

http://wayangparty.com/2008/12/29/interview-with-macpherson-residents-on-transport-fares/

Prologue:

In a meet-the-people session conducted on 21 December 2008, Transport Minister Mr Raymond Lim told Macpherson residents that “public transport fares is not directly linked to oil prices” and therefore it has not come down in tandem with dropping oil prices.

We ask Macpherson residents what they think of Mr Lim’s explanation.

Excerpts of interview:

“I doubt it. Because definitely oil plays an important part in the economic stability, so when the oil prices come down, we should expect certain depreciation in the transport costs.”

“Actually since the oil prices have already come down, they should reduce the price.”

“Transport fares are very expensive nowadays !”

“Now the oil prices are very low, the transport fares should be coming down…..He (Raymond Lim) can say his own thing, we people have our own views.”

“There are many poor people nowadays. Prices keep going up, but never go down !”

Results:

We interview a total of 40 Macpherson residents:

1. Are transport fares expensive ?

Expensive: 25 Affordable: 10 No comment: 5

2. Mr Raymond Lim says that oil prices are not linked to transport fares. Do you believe what he says ?

Yes: 0 No: 34 Don’t know: 6

3. Should transport fares be decreased soon ?

Yes: 38 No: 0 No comment: 2

Conclusion:

62.5% of those interviewed agree that transport fares are expensive, 85% do not believe in Mr Raymond Lim’s explanation that oil prices are not linked to transport costs and 95% hope that transport fares will be decreased soon.

Only the stupid 66.6% will choose to believe Demon Lim's statement. That makes me wonder, where the fark are those 66.6% supporters now? Why arent they defending their master's illogical explanation?

Well, lets try.

The salaries of SBS and SMRT workers need to be increased to cope with rising standards of living. In 2008, wages takes up X% of the total cost which constitutes the bulk of the total cost.

Also these companies need to accumulate reserves for renewal of the existing infrastucture which needs to be replaced every X number of years.

We have to be fair to shareholders to maintain profitability and a reasonable ROI despite tough economic times.

We thank XXXX for the feedback and will work closely with the PTC to make sure fares are affordable for all Singaporeans.

Yes we can do something about it. Just remember all these crap and tell your friends, family, colleagues not to vote PAP. Just vote for any monkey except PAP. Taking crap from monkeys is better than listening to crap from PAP. They have simply overstayed their welcome.

Big salaries paid out to top management for doing a "great job". They took a leaf from financial institutions.

i think he speaks honestly. yes, the public transport company have more important issue -- how to maximise their profits instead of reckoning otherwise (service to the people) even with lower fuel costs.

Agree, I heard from the interviewers that they approached more than 200 people. As you know most Singaporeans don't like to be filmed and interviewed in public.

You all never listen properly one. The PTC formula is to "put a cap on increase" not "put a real value on fares". It already say, the formula only got INCREASE, no decrease one.

I am very dissappointed with the boy in Red T. He did not sound like a local and look quite blur. Singapore education system has continuously churned out morons like him.
