I was looking around MBK & wanted to buy glasses that was made from glass, instead of plastic.
Well that didn't happen & intead got one made from plastic by Hoya. It is costing more than my last pair because it has a higher refractive index i.e. It is thinner. As well as having a coating that will filter out blue light.

I didn't know that this was available the last time. It costs more but it is worth it if you use a computer or handphone because blue light will damage your eyes

For the frame I got titanium because it is lighter & stronger. Plus I am also trying out the expensive "ich! Berlin" frame. It does not have any screws. You can bend the arm of the frames without damaging it. Take a look at YouTube & search for "ich! Berlin magic"

This is the most expensive pair of glasses I've made. Hopefully it will last as long as an iPhone:smile:
Oh another thing, When I return to Spore I will get a VAT refund.

The Ich Berlin frames are very unique. They seem to be indestructible. You can bend the arms 90 degrees & they will just pop back. You can also pop out the lens & then replace them with another lens without any tools.

Long time titanium spectacle user will know that over time the frame will develop problems. They become loose even though they have never been abused. There is nothing I can see that can be tightened. You can of course bend the arms but over time you will weaken the frame & It will break. That happened to one of my titanium frames.

Another weak point are the tiny screws. It is easy to strip the threads or the top because they are so tiny.

I was thinking of buying a spare frame when making a new pair of glasses. When the frame wears out I can re-cycle the lens by moving it to the spare frame. I will give the Ich Berlin frames a try & in 3+ years I will know if they really last

To claim a VAT refund you must shop at a place that offers VAT refund for tourists. The shop will display a sign showing "VAT refund" The value of the purchase must be 2,000 baht or higher
When shopping don't forget to bring your passport. The store needs your passport number, your name & address.

At the airport you have to go to 2 places:

The 1st place is before you check-in. The last time It was at one corner of the airport. You have to show the VAT documents. After they check the forms, they will stamp the documents.

The 2nd place to go to is after you check-in & pass the security & immigration. It is at the 2nd place that you will get the actual refund.

So be sure to go early to the airport in case there are many people who are seeking a VAT refund.

wah...............velly velly rich ah............buy such expensive specs............

Unfortunately For me spectacles are A necessity. My prescription is very high & that's why I need a pair with the highest refraction index to minimise the thickness of the lens.

The titanium frame helps to keeps the weight down.

I have to replace my frame on a regular basis because of wear & tear. I'm investing in a more expensive frame because it is advertised as being stronger. Time will tell if the frames will last longer.

In Spore I have never seen the "Ich Berlin" brand. If you see the frame you will be amazed at how flexible & robust the frame is. I'm certain other speckys would also be interested in such a product.

Hoya is a well known brand & quality costs.

I will be wearing these glasses for at least 16 hours a day for at least 3 or more years.

This is the first time I come across someone paying such high a price for glasses, of all places, Thailand.

I have quite a few spectacles made in Thailand, not more than 5,000 baht with multi-coating and high refractive index.

You must have a low prescription. In my case I have severe myopia.
In Spore I would have to pay $800+ for a Pair Of titanium framed spectacles with glass lenses.

The one I am getting in Thailand has more expensive options e.g. anti-blue light coating & Hoya branded lens. It is one of their most expensive model with their highest refractive index of 1.74.

In Spore I bet they would cost a bomb.

The frame I'm getting are also very expensive frames costing $490. However if the last longer than my previous pair without getting loose, they would be worth it.

I don't know why you prefer glass lenses to plastic ones. I guess it's because it's thinner ? You can try poly carbonate lenses if thickness of lenses is your main concern.

As for lenses, I always go for local made lenses. I alway avoid Hoya, Hi-Top, Seiko and other cut-throat brands.

Yes, my prescription is low, about 300 each. I have managed to maintain the same prescription for past 10 years.

A new concern is weight of the spectacles, which is why titanium is my preference.

Once you reach your 30's your vision will stabilise . I don't know why but Sporeans have a high incident of 4 eyes:(. Throughout my school career I was always assigned to sit at the back & that didn't help my vision as I always had to struggle to see the black board.

I prefer glass because it is more resistant to scratches. At the store I was told that in the past the store carried glass lenses with refractive index of 1.8, the same as what I got from the optician in Spore. However they no longer carry it. Probably because it is harder to work with glass then plastic at the extreme prescription levels.

In the past the anti scratch coating for plastic were not that great, it made it hard to clean. Will see if it has improved. In Spore the essilor brand of lenses are popular. Some say that Hoya is better. I depend on my glasses to see clearly so I want the best. As such I prefer to spend on a good pair rather than on an iPhone

You got conned about the blue light damaging your eyes, today's displays do not emit uv rays, so will not damage your eyes.
