Is Singapore governed by indecisive leaders and managed by inexperienced and ineffective AGC? Consider the following:

1. LHL sought the advice of AGC and he initially decided not to hold a B-E at Hougang. He changed his decision when challenged by a HG resident (finally reaslised that he had no constitutional ground to delay BE indefinitely?.

2. AGC appealed against Judge Philip Pillai's decision. Then withdrew the appeal and then re-appealed (why the flip flop?.

3. The AG was replaced. Could it be the result of bad AGC's advice given to LHL for delaying the HG B-E resulting in LHL having to change his decision when challenged by a HG resident?

4. The bad formulation of the charge sheets in the teenage prostitute cases. Any law student knows that for the charge to be valid, the prostitute has to be named. Otherwise, how would the defence lawyer fight the case? How could such an elementary mistake be made by the AGC? Inexperienced AGC staff?

5. The bad formulation of the sexual corruption charges against Commissioner SCDF and Director, CNB. I wont be surprised if the State Prosecutor loses the cases unless AGC wakes up as the charges are too general and amibiguous.

Why is LHL so indecisive in the HG B-E saga?

Is there more than meets the eye for the AG change recently?

Why is AGC such an embarrassment?

All the above show that LHL is weak and there are many gaps in the AGC.

All are not well in SG

In Rajah n Tann where AG came from they win becos of might of staff strength n money floating ard...... in AGC the same SC cannot function without the comforts of these pillars,,,,,,,,,,

AGC? sounds like mythological creature under PAP beck and call. It was because of this animal Singapore has many embarassing story to tell like ONCE a JOLLY HANGMAN.

Nobody wants to make the first move. Everyone is waiting for Ah loong to make the first call.
Instead Ah loong ask AGC to handle the task. AGC dunno what to do thus push the decision making to Ah loong.
In the end, Ah Loong kena shot in the back by a lawyer from a HG resident for procastination.
Ah Loong was make a laughing stock and By-election lost.
Ah loong very dulan with the AGC for being useless. Thus it is replaced.

From this incident, we can see that even though LKY has retired from the scene,
his spirit still lives on. And all these pappies surbordinates view Ah Loong as their next LKY.
Under LKY rule, all these surbordinates are ingrained to obey all instructions from their only master LKY.
With LKY retired, all decision makings automatically "thought" to fall under Ah Loong.
But Ah Loong even though is LKY son, he is not LKY.
Ah loong may be surprised to find that all these surbordiantes have become mindless braindead zombies under LKY rule.
Only capable of following orders, but incapable of making decisions.
For fear of making the wrong decsions, thus incuring the wrath of the king? Perhaps.
To summarise, spore is still under totalitarian rule. The fear of their masters is ingrained in their minds.

You took the words out of my mouth.

But the source of the problem is LKY himself. He never trusted anybody.Hence he took away the discretionary powers from everybody--the most damaging being our judges without their discretionary powers.

LKY ruled by auto piloting.

The end result is even more damaging. Not only we have high end civil servants who cannot think for themselves......we have now an entire legal fraternity who never fought real cases in our courts of laws. And from this lot an AG had to be selected. How pitiful!

Besides, the other LKY's greatest folly is to tie monetary compensation with the quality. In other countries, the mere call to be appointed in the bench as a judge itself is an honor---a recognition of sorts.Where legal eagles carries their head high because the honor the office brings.Similarly with the appointment of an AG....the fact that you are chosen puts you above your peers.

So,don't blame LHL.Since the problem lies with LKY.

Absolute rubbish.

PM Lee stated up front that there will be an election when Yaw just resigned. He also said that it would not be immediate cos there are other priorities then. The ball park time frame was given at 3 months.

The guy who started this thread is either mischievously disinformational and a blur toad.

I suspect the ex-AG was reluctant to fight the case. In my opinion, the ex-AG commands more respect than the current AG, among his peers in the legal profession.

So contrary to your suspicion, the ex-AG was replaced not because he provided the wrong advice but because he refused to bend...just my guess.

Even during LYY's time, he had a very strong, firm and forceful advisor, Gecko. Now that she is no longer around, you can see that LKY coupled with his old age, cannot give good advice to his son. Thus, LSL's fumbling and bumbling...

Very true.Gecko was the one who was actually running our Ministry of Law....and by that extension Home Affairs too.So much so that she ,through LKY, can and did appoint a total senile nincompoop Yong Pung How as our chief justice.A fella who had never actually practised any law for umpteen years. And worse ,a foreign politician with MCA,in Malaysia.

His appointment was a real disgrace to our judiciary and law fraternity. All he did was doubling the sentences to discourage appeals.....could never forget a TV prgramme broadcasted alive on a National Day speech, where he was laughing to himself.Totally senile old fool.

That's how LKY and Gecko team ran our courts of law.

Here is the problem. The PAP govt is looking to put someone in place who has tremendous respect of their peers. This allows the PAP to crow about neutrality and objectivity. The first AG was a joke as his share trading adventures put him a difficult position. The second came from Lee and Lee. He was also the master of articulating how a square can be a circle with his now famous Cheng San argument about unauthorised person in a counting centre. Even Pythagoras would be overwhelmed.

Both Walter Woon and Menon are cut from the same cloth. Both highly respected and regarded and a major coup for the establishment. Walter was prepared to stand and fight but they did not renew his term. Menon asked to go. No guesses which case triggered this. I am however glad that they both are now in role that they are eminently qualified and a blessing to the country. With VK and Menon taking position of appeal, the country is in safe hands. Steven is a lesser light but still well regarded. Lets see if he is prepared to turn a square into a circle.

This country should be glad that we still have upright and decent people who are absolute professionals. Walter did not practice law, choosing to educate young ones, he then went on to represent the country as an ambassdor. With a first class honours, he had the world at his feet. Menon was born to be a judge. You have to meet this guy to see how decent he is. I am aware people did not expect him to be made an appellate judge but that is how good his judgement is.

The sad part is the govt needing to get a compliant individual and a respected one - dream on.

Chan Sek Keong came from Shook Lin & Bok, not Lee and Lee.

Its hard to find decent opposition supporters. Dream on.
In particular, the lie that PM Lee did not want a BE in Hougang.

And it wasn't about counting centre, but polling station.

"I therefore confirm my opinion that the Parliamentary Elections Act does not provide for any offence of unauthorised entry into or presence within a polling station. Accordingly, those unauthorised persons who only wait or loiter inside a polling station on polling day do not commit any offence under the Act."

If you contract the circle you can fit that into a square or enlarge the square to encompass the circle, it is also known as optical illusion. But in uniquely your SINgapore, the square is called a cricle & you better say it is a circle though it is square & you better know what is good for you? What is new?

hahaha.....another honest bullshit...i mean honest mistake.

1 AG sort of sama sama wif the 1 CJ...both sing fm harry's hymm book...

2 AG...not fm L&L but fm pung sai's daddy's old firm Shook Lin & Bok...same as LP n now same as Menon...no doubt, 2 AG n now present CJ has this Cheng San blemish on his record...but there is no doubting his legal gravitas...this chap is a v big hitter...personally he is also a v humble chap n good boss...

Walter n to a certain extent Menon remind me of Tommy Koh...v big hitters wif legal gravitas, hv good hearts n r decent blokes but eventually still succumb to being co-opted...just like Cherian it goes wif the territory...wtd...
