SINGAPORE - There were 14 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Tuesday noon (Jan 26), all of which were imported.

The imported cases had been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

There were no new cases in the community for the fourth day in a row, and none from workers' dormitories.

Tuesday's new cases take Singapore's total to 59,366.

More details will be announced on Tuesday night.

On Monday, a one-year-old boy was among the 44 new coronavirus cases.

The dependant's pass holder had returned from the United Arab Emirates and was confirmed positive on Sunday.

All the new cases announced on Monday were imported.

There have been no new cases in the community for the third day in a row, and none from workers' dormitories.

Among the 44 new cases, four were Singaporeans and two were permanent residents who returned from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Britain and the United States.

One of the Singaporeans is a 19-year-old woman who returned from Britain on Dec 6. Although her Covid-19 swab done on Dec 16 came back negative, a pre-departure test she took last Saturday, in preparation for returning to Britain, came back positive.

She has been classified as an imported case based on her travel history and because her serology test came back positive, indicating a likely past infection. "She is likely to be shedding minute fragments of the virus RNA, which are no longer transmissible and infective to others," said MOH.

The cases announced on Monday also included seven dependant's pass holders who arrived from India, Russia and the UAE. There was also a long-term visit pass holder who returned from the US.

Another three of the new cases were student's pass holders who arrived from France, Indonesia and Kazakhstan.

Six more cases were work pass holders who departed from Bangladesh, India, Japan, Poland and Spain. There were also 17 work permit holders who returned from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The last four cases announced on Monday were short-term visit pass holders who arrived from India to visit their relatives here.

The number of new cases in the community in a week increased to 13 in the past week, from 10 cases in the week before.

The number of unlinked cases in the community in a week decreased to three in the past week, from four in the week before.

With 25 cases discharged on Monday, 59,051 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 59 patients remain in hospital while 198 are recuperating in community facilities. None is in intensive care.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died of other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 99.1 million people. More than 2.1 million people have died.

This was detected after the National Public Health Laboratory conducted whole genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis.

Epidemiological investigations revealed that two of the three cases visited Jewel Changi Airport on Dec 31 last year, while the third case, who works at a restaurant in Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, was at Changi Airport Terminal 3 on the same day.

As a precautionary measure, MOH will offer testing for staff who have been working from Dec 31 at Jewel Changi Airport, and at the shops and food establishments at Changi Airport Terminal 3 that are open to the public.

MOH announced on Tuesday that there were 14 new cases, all of them were imported and have been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore.

Yes the economy will collapse without maids.

People cannot go to work. They will have to stay home to look after their parents and children. Who will clean the toilets? Hygiene will suffer badly. More people will fall sick and die.

Singapore will be in very very serious trouble if there were no more maids in SG.

Very serious. Don't play around with fire. This is far more serious threat to national security than islamic terrorists.
Maids are an important asset to singkie families n economy... however shitca ah nehs as as beneficial to singkies n singkieland as parasites to a host

29 JAN 2021

SINGAPORE - There were 24 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Friday noon (Jan 29), all of them imported.

The imported cases had been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

There were no new cases in the community in the past week, and none from workers' dormitories.

Friday's new cases take Singapore's total to 59,449.

More details will be announced on Friday night.

On Thursday, MOH said only one new Covid-19 case in the community was reported in the past week and there were no unlinked ones.

This comes after there were 21 new cases in the community in the week before and six unlinked cases in the same time period.

Meanwhile, two of the Covid-19 cases announced on Thursday have tested preliminarily positive for the B117 strain of the coronavirus that is circulating in Britain.
They are among the 34 new coronavirus cases, all imported, that were announced by the MOH on Thursday.

The two new cases with the B117 strain of the virus are a work permit holder, 31, who had arrived from Bangladesh, and a work pass holder, 33, from India.

Initially, the work permit holder had tested negative for Covid-19 after he was swabbed on Jan 17 during his stay-home notice (SHN) period.

On Jan 18, he was quarantined and isolated after he was identified as a flight contact of another Covid-19 patient. He was tested again on Tuesday and confirmed positive for Covid-19. He has also tested preliminary positive for the B117 strain and is awaiting further confirmatory tests.

The other man who tested preliminarily positive for the B117 strain is a software engineer at shipping company Pacific International Lines. He was swabbed on Jan 7 during his SHN and tested negative for Covid-19.

However, he developed nausea on Monday and visited a doctor the next day. On Wednesday, he was confirmed to have Covid-19.

"Given their recent travel history, we have classified both cases as imported," said the ministry.

Shrimp Prawn Seafood in Boat Quay, Amoy Street Food Centre and China Square Food Centre were added to the list of locations visited by infectious Covid-19 patients.

With 44 cases discharged on Thursday, 59,133 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 40 patients remain in hospital, while 208 are recuperating in community facilities. None is in intensive care.

How effective is suspending arrivals from Germany, Malaysia and South Korea when most of the infected inbound travellers are from India, Bangladesh, Indonesia?

It is more effective to stop incoming travellers from the latter countries than to suspend green lane arrangements.

SINGAPORE - Singapore's reciprocal green lane arrangements with Germany, Malaysia, and South Korea will be suspended for three months from Monday (Feb 1).
This is in view of the resurgence of Covid-19 cases worldwide, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Saturday.

Singapore will review the reciprocal green lane arrangements at the end of the suspension period. Green lanes allow essential travel for business or official purposes between two countries.

Travellers who have already been approved to enter Singapore under these arrangements can continue to do so, MFA said.

Singapore had agreed on a green lane with Germany in October last year.

Green lanes with Malaysia and South Korea were operational from August and September respectively last year.

SINGAPORE - There were 29 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Sunday noon (Jan 31), taking Singapore's total to 59,536.

The 29 were imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

There were no community cases and none from workers' dormitories.

More details will be announced on Sunday night.

A 72-year-old Singaporean man, who works as an aviation screening officer at Changi Airport Terminal 1, was among three new Covid-19 unlinked community cases reported on Saturday.

He developed a cough and sore throat last Monday, the day he received his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, but he did not seek medical treatment.

His job involves screening the baggage of arrival passengers via X-ray scanners, and directing passengers to the baggage screening lanes.

Last Wednesday, he went to work and was tested as part of rostered routine testing, and his test result came back positive the next day.

Last Thursday, the man met 12 others for tennis at the National Service Resort and Country Club.

The MOH is investigating if there had been any breach of safe management measures.

The ministry said the man received his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine last Monday at the vaccination centre located at Changi Airport Terminal 4.

In a statement on Saturday night, the MOH said: "As the vaccine does not contain live virus, he could not have been infected due to vaccination.

"It is possible for one to be infected just before or just after vaccination, as it typically takes a few weeks for an individual to build up immunity after completing vaccination."

The second community case is a 68-year-old male Singapore permanent resident who works as a cleaner at the Broadway coffee shop in Yishun.

He developed symptoms last Tuesday, but did not seek medical treatment and went to work the next day.

He tested positive when he went to a polyclinic for medical treatment.

The man's wife, a 69-year-old woman, is the third case in the community.

Like her husband, she did not seek medical treatment even after developing symptoms on Jan 23.

All the identified close contacts of the three cases, including their family members and co-workers, have been isolated and placed under quarantine.

The Broadway coffee shop at Block 848 Yishun Street 81 and the National Service Resort and Country Club Changi were among new places visited by Covid-19 patients in the community during their infectious period.

A total of 58 new coronavirus cases were announced by the MOH on Saturday, the highest single-day tally in Singapore since Sept 11 last year, when 86 cases were reported.

Among them, 55 were imported and had already been placed on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.

They included three Singaporeans and a Singapore permanent resident.

Forty-one were work-permit holders, including 32 foreign domestic workers, from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar.

The rest were dependant's pass holders, work pass holders, short-term visit pass holders and a long-term visit pass holder.

With 15 cases discharged on Saturday, 59,181 patients had fully recovered from the disease. A total of 46 patients remained in hospital, with none in the intensive care unit.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 101.4 million people. More than 2.1 million deaths have been recorded.

SINGAPORE - There were 29 new coronavirus cases confirmed at noon on Monday (Feb 1), taking Singapore's total to 59,565.

All of them were imported, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

More details will be announced on Monday night.

A 36-year-old permanent resident who was preparing to depart for India was one of the Covid-19 cases reported in Singapore on Sunday.

The MOH said the man had returned from a trip to India on Dec 19 last year, and served his stay-home notice at a dedicated facility until Jan 2.

He tested negative for Covid-19 on Dec 31, and had shown no symptoms.

His infection was revealed only last Saturday from a pre-departure test he took in preparation for another trip to India, said the ministry.

Tests showed that the man had a low viral load. A serology test result also came back positive.

The MOH added: "Given that these indicate likely past infection, we have classified the case as imported based on his travel history.

"He is likely to be shedding minute fragments of the virus RNA, which are no longer transmissible and infective to others."

All of the 29 cases reported on Sunday were imported. Some had arrived from India, Britain and Nigeria.

There were also 13 work permit holders who had arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and Myanmar. Six were foreign domestic workers.

All of them were placed on stay-home notice on arrival and were tested while serving the notice. None of them displayed symptoms.

With 32 cases discharged on Sunday, 59,213 patients have fully recovered from the disease. A total of 44 patients remained in hospital, with none in the intensive care unit.

Globally, more than 101.4 million people have been infected with Covid-19, and more than two million deaths have been recorded.
