SINGAPORE - There were 45 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Thursday noon (Jan 14), taking Singapore's total to 59,029.

These included 44 imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notice or isolated on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH). This is the highest number of imported cases since March 23 when there were 48 imported cases.

There was also one case in the community and none from workers' dormitories.

More details will be announced on Thursday night.

On Wednesday, the lone locally transmitted coronavirus case reported was from a workers' dormitory, said MOH in a statement.

The man is a work permit holder who arrived from India on Dec 11 and served his stay-home notice at a dedicated facility until Dec 25.

His swabs done on Dec 21 and 27 both came back negative. But a subsequent test taken on Tuesday, as part of rostered routine testing, came back positive.

"Given the relatively long time interval between his travel and positive Covid-19 test, we have classified this case as locally transmitted while epidemiological investigations are in progress," said MOH.

The patient, who is currently unlinked, resides at Seatown Dormitory in Tuas and started work in the construction sector on Jan 6.

MOH added that all his close contacts, including those in the dormitory and his co-workers, have been isolated and placed under quarantine. They will be tested at the start and end of their quarantine period so that asymptomatic cases can be detected.

MOH also announced on Wednesday that there were 37 imported cases.

They included three Singaporeans and five permanent residents who returned from France, India, Indonesia, Britain and the United States.

There were also 21 work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines.

Eight of the work permit holders are foreign domestic workers, while one is a sailor who worked on board bunker tanker NewOcean 6.

The 49-year-old Indonesian man was newly added to the NewOcean 6 cluster, which now has a total of 12 confirmed cases.

He was placed under quarantine on Dec 31 and tested positive on Tuesday.

NewOcean 6 ceased all operations after MOH announced that nine cases were linked to the cluster on Tuesday.

The imported cases also included a short-term visit pass holder who arrived from Brazil to participate in an e-sports event.

Overall, there were four new cases in the community in the last seven days, and 12 the week before. There were also two unlinked cases in the community in the last seven days, compared with five the week before.

With 28 cases discharged on Wednesday, 58,707 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 56 patients remain in hospital, including one in the intensive care unit, while 177 are recuperating in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died of other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 91.6 million people. More than 1.96 million people have died.

SINGAPORE - There were 30 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Friday noon (Jan 15), taking Singapore's total to 59,059.

These included 29 imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notice or isolated on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

There was also one case in the community and none from workers' dormitories.

More details will be announced on Friday night.

On Thursday, a 32-year-old Singaporean who works as a para-veterinarian at the Singapore Police Force's K-9 unit was the lone locally transmitted coronavirus case announced.

The patient, whose job involves tele-consultations with dog handlers, developed a fever on Monday. He sought treatment at a general practitioner clinic the same day, where he was tested for Covid-19 as part of enhanced community testing.

The man had remained at home on medical leave until his result came back positive on Wednesday, and he was taken in an ambulance to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.

His case is currently unlinked, said MOH, which added that all his close contacts, including family members and co-workers, have been isolated and placed under quarantine. They will be tested at the start and end of their quarantine period so that asymptomatic cases can be detected.

MOH also announced on Thursday that there were 44 imported cases.

He was identified as a close contact of a previously confirmed case and was placed under quarantine on Dec 31. He was tested during quarantine and confirmed positive on Wednesday.

The imported cases also included three Singaporeans who returned from Qatar, the Philippines and Britain.

MOH added Jem, Chong Pang City Wet Market and Food Centre, Junction Nine and Sembawang Cottage to the list of places visited by Covid-19 patients while infectious. These visits occurred between last Saturday and Sunday.

SINGAPORE - There were 24 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Saturday noon (Jan 16), taking Singapore's total to 59,083.

These included 19 imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notice or isolated on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

There were also four cases in the community and one from workers' dormitories.

More details will be announced on Saturday night.

On Friday, a 57-year-old Singaporean housewife was the only locally transmitted coronavirus case reported, said the Ministry of Health.

The patient, whose case is currently unlinked, was detected when she took a Covid-19 pre-departure test on Wednesday for a trip to Vietnam.

Her results came back positive on Thursday, and she was taken to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases in an ambulance.

MOH said that her polymerase chain reaction test yielded a high cycle threshold value, which indicates a low viral load. Her serological test result also came back positive, which indicates a likely past infection.

The ministry added Downtown East, Compass One in Sengkang, Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, White Sands in Pasir Ris and Raffles City Shopping Centre to the list of places visited by Covid-19 patients while infectious.

Visits were also recorded at Eastpoint Mall in Simei, CityLink Mall, Singapore Swimming Club, Heartbeat @ Bedok and Century Square in the first two weeks of the month.

The ministry also announced on Friday that there were 29 imported cases.

They included 13 work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India and Myanmar, five of whom are foreign domestic workers.

There were also a Singaporean and five permanent residents who returned from the United States, Britain and India.

Separately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that the Singapore-Japan Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) has been suspended until the state of emergency in Japan is lifted.

Overall, there were two new cases in the community in the past seven days, and eight the week before. There were also two unlinked cases in the community in the past seven days, compared with five the week before.

With 14 cases discharged on Friday, 58,756 patients have fully recovered from the disease. A total of 51 patients remain in hospital, and none is in intensive care.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died of other causes.

Altogether, there were 24 new cases reported on Saturday, with one from Tuas South Dormitory and 19 imported.

One of the community cases on Saturday was a 39-year-old man who works at the Singapore Scout Association in Bishan Street 12, handling mainly administrative work in the office. He is also a part-time bus driver with Westpoint Transit, plying specific routes for Cameron (Singapore) and GlaxoSmithKline Tuas.

SINGAPORE - There were 14 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Monday noon (Jan 18), taking Singapore's total to 59,127.

There were 12 imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notices on arrival in Singapore said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

They include two community cases and no cases from worker's dormitories.

More details will be announced on Monday night.

The two community cases announced on Sunday (Jan 17) were linked to a Singapore Police Force para-veterinarian who was earlier confirmed to have Covid-19, forming a new cluster with four cases.

The first case, a 44-year-old Singaporean man, works as an administrative officer with the police at 2 Mowbray Road.

He had a dry throat on Jan 7, but did not see a doctor.

His case was picked up after special testing operations by MOH at his workplace last Friday (Jan 15) following his colleague's positive test.

His test result returned positive on Saturday, and he was taken in an ambulance to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.

A 44-year-old Singaporean woman in his family was the other community case. She also had symptoms but did not see a doctor.

MOH said she developed a fever and chills on Jan 9 and lost her sense of smell and taste on Jan 13, but had not sought medical treatment.

The housewife was contacted by MOH as part of contact tracing efforts on Saturday following her family member's positive test, and was tested when she reported having symptoms.

Her test result returned positive on Sunday, and she was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital in an ambulance.

The two community cases' serological tests have returned negative, indicating that their infections are most likely current.

Said MOH: "We strongly urge everyone to do their part to reduce the risk of transmission. Those who are unwell, including those showing early/mild symptoms, should be socially responsible and seek medical attention immediately and stay at home to prevent the spread of illness to others."
The ministry also announced 28 imported cases on Sunday.

They include two Singaporeans and one permanent resident who returned from Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India respectively.

Another three are dependant's pass holders who arrived from India and the UAE, while two are long-term visit pass holders who arrived from India.
Five are work pass holders who arrived from India, Lebanon, the Philippines and the UAE.

One is a short-term visit pass holder who arrived from India to visit her Singaporean child.

The remaining 14 are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh and India, of whom one is a foreign domestic worker.

Meanwhile, three locations were added to a list of places visited by infectious Covid-19 patients. They are Changi Airport Terminal 2 Pass Office, Koufu in Yew Tee Point and Foodfare at Block 673B Choa Chu Kang Crescent.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at eight cases a week in the past two weeks. The number of unlinked cases in the community in a week decreased from five cases two weeks ago to four in the past week.

A total of 49 patients remained in hospital on Sunday, with none in intensive care, while 189 were recuperating in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive died of other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 93 million people. More than 1.9 million people have died.

How many are actually sick?

Simple solution: stop the imported cases. Close the borders until there are no community and dormitory cases.

SINGAPORE - Additional measures may be needed to keep Covid-19 in check here, as community cases inch up and a local cluster has emerged for the first time in several months.

Covid-19 task force co-chair Lawrence Wong said the country has seen more new infected cases in the community in recent days, and a local cluster linked to a police para-vet.

"Unfortunately there were also several recent cases who did not seek medical treatment despite falling ill with flu-like symptoms," he said in a Facebook post on Monday night (Jan 18).

Mr Wong, who is also Education Minister, added that contact tracers were working hard to identify all the possible contacts, ring-fence the potential cases and prevent them from spreading further.

"We are also monitoring the situation carefully and considering if additional measures are necessary to ensure the infection remains under control," he said.
The number of new cases in the community has increased to 10 cases in the past week, from eight cases the week earlier.

The number of unlinked cases in the community, however, has decreased from five cases in the week before to four cases in the past week.

On Monday night, the Ministry of Health confirmed 14 new coronavirus cases, two of which are in the community.

This brings Singapore's total up to 59,127.

The two new community cases were linked to the police para-veterinarian cluster - centred around a 32-year-old Singaporean who works at the K-9 Unit at 2 Mowbray Road - bringing its number of cases to six.

Four of the six in the cluster did not seek medical treatment despite coming down with symptoms.

The first of the two new cases is a 43-year-old Singaporean who is the wife of a previous case.

She had a runny nose on Jan 10 and subsequently loss her sense of taste and developed a sore throat and diarrhoea on Jan 12, but had not sought medical treatment.

She was contacted by MOH on Jan 16 as part of its contact tracing efforts and her test came back positive the next day. She was then taken to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

Her serological test came back negative, indicating a likely current infection, said MOH.

The second community case is a 66-year-old Malaysian woman who has been in Singapore since January last year on a long-term visit pass.

She developed acute respiratory infection symptoms and diarrhoea on Jan 9, and subsequently lost her sense of taste on Jan 14. She also did not seek medical treatment.

She was contacted by MOH on Jan 16 and tested positive the next day. She was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Her serological test came back positive, indicating a likely recent infection.

Both are family members of a 44-year-old Singaporean administrative officer who works in the same location as the para-vet.

The other 12 cases were imported, comprising two Singaporeans, four permanent residents, one dependant's pass holder, one student's pass holder and four work permit holders.

The Singaporeans and permanent residents were returning from India, Mexico, Pakistan, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The dependant's pass holder arrived from India, while the student's pass holder came from the Czech Republic.

The four work permit holders came from Bangladesh, India and Malaysia.

With 22 cases discharged on Monday, 58,853 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 44 patients remain in hospital, with none in intensive care, while 186 are recuperating in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died of other causes.

SINGAPORE - There were 30 new coronavirus cases confirmed as of Tuesday noon (Jan 19), taking Singapore's total to 59,157.

They included 26 imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

There were four community cases and none from worker's dormitories.

More details will be announced on Tuesday night.

On Monday, the Health Ministry confirmed 14 new cases, two of whom were from the community.

The two community cases were linked to the police para-veterinarian cluster - centred on a Singaporean who works at the K-9 Unit in Mowbray Road - bringing its number of cases to six.

Four of the six in the cluster did not seek medical treatment despite coming down with symptoms.

The first of the two new cases is a 43-year-old Singaporean housewife who is the spouse of a previous patient in the cluster. She had a runny nose on Jan 10 and later lost her sense of taste and developed a sore throat and diarrhoea, but did not seek medical treatment.

She was contacted by MOH last Saturday and her test came back positive the next day. She was taken to KK Women's and Children's Hospital by ambulance. Her serological test was negative, showing a probable current infection.

The second case is a 66-year-old Malaysian woman who has been in Singapore since January last year on a long-term visit pass. She developed acute respiratory infection symptoms and diarrhoea on Jan 9, and later lost her sense of taste, but also did not seek treatment.

She was contacted by MOH last Saturday, tested positive the next day, and was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital by ambulance. Her serological test came back positive, indicating a recent infection.

Both are family members of a 44-year-old Singaporean administrative officer who works in the same location as the para-vet.

Monday's 12 other cases were all imported, comprising two Singaporeans, four permanent residents, one dependant's pass holder, one student's pass holder and four work permit holders.

20 JAN 2021

SINGAPORE - There were 40 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Wednesday noon (Jan 20), taking Singapore's total to 59,197.

They included 36 imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

There were four community cases and none from workers' dormitories.

More details will be announced on Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, the wife and the housemate of a 33-year-old Chinese national who tested positive for Covid-19 on Jan 16 have also tested positive for the infection, forming a new local cluster.

The two Chinese nationals are work permit holders who were identified as close contacts and put on quarantine last Friday. Both tested positive on Sunday.

The woman is 48 years old and is employed as a food processing worker at Soon Lee Heng Satay Foodstuff Manufacturer located in Woodlands Loop, while the housemate - a 31-year-old man - is a co-worker of the previous case at Golden Bridge Foods Manufacturing in Senoko.

The announcement of this new cluster follows the warning on Monday by multi-ministry task force co-chair Lawrence Wong that additional measures may be necessary as community cases inch up in Singapore. Mr Wong is also the Education Minister.

This is the second local cluster that has been discovered in recent weeks.

MOH also reported that another case has been linked to the para-vet cluster, bringing the number of cases to seven.

The latest case linked is an eight-year-old boy who is the son of an administrative officer and his wife who previously tested positive for the infection. The boy is a pupil at Chua Chu Kang Primary School, and last went to school last Friday. He was identified as a close contact of the couple and quarantined the next day.

He was swabbed on the same day and his result came back negative for Covid-19. However, the boy subsequently developed a fever on Sunday while in quarantine, and tested positive for the virus.

The final community case reported on Tuesday is currently unlinked. He is a 39-year-old permanent resident who works in sales at BS Industrial & Construction Supply in Kallang.

Along with these four community cases, there were also 26 imported cases.

They comprised four Singaporeans, three permanent residents, two student's pass holders, one work pass holder and 16 work permit holders, of whom three are foreign domestic workers.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 95.5 million people. More than two million people have died.

21 JAN 2021

SINGAPORE - There were 38 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at noon on Thursday (Jan 21), taking Singapore's total to 59,195.

They included 34 imported cases, of which 33 had been placed on stay-home notices on arrival in Singapore.

The remaining case tested negative for Covid-19 upon arrival in Singapore on Sunday (Jan 17), and was on a controlled itinerary during his stay here. He subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 infection on Wednesday.

There were four community cases and none from workers' dormitories.

More details will be announced on Thursday night.

On Wednesday, the number of new cases in the community increased to 18 in the past week, from four in the week before.

The ministry also reported a new local coronavirus cluster - the third discovered in recent weeks - after three of the four community cases were linked to a previous case.

The three cases were linked to the case of a 39-year-old permanent resident who works in sales at BS Industrial and Construction Supply in Kallang. He tested positive for the virus on Monday.

All of them are his co-workers, and MOH said that investigations are ongoing to assess if there was a breach of safe management measures in their workplace. "The Government takes a serious view of any breach and will take actions should there be non-compliance," it said in the statement.

Two of the three did not seek medical attention after developing symptoms.

The first linked case is a 27-year-old Malaysian work pass holder who works in sales at BS Industrial and Construction Supply.

He developed a sore throat on Jan 14 but did not seek medical treatment and continued to go to work. He was contacted by MOH on Monday after being identified as a close contact of the original case, and subsequently tested positive on Tuesday.

The second case is a 29-year-old Malaysian national who is also a work pass holder and works in sales at the same company.

She developed a sore throat and had difficulty breathing last Saturday but continued to go to work as well as interacted with members of the community, said MOH.
The woman also tested positive after being identified as a close contact of the original case.

The final linked case is a 28-year-old Malaysian who is also a work pass holder and works in finance in the same company. She developed a cough on Tuesday - the day she was placed in quarantine. She later tested positive for the infection.

The fourth community case was unlinked to this cluster - a 46-year-old Indian national who is a work pass holder working as a software engineer at Apar Technologies in Shenton Way.

He is asymptomatic and his infection was detected when he took a pre-departure test on Tuesday in preparation for a trip back to India.

There were also 36 imported cases reported yesterday, comprising one Singaporean, one permanent resident, one dependant's pass holder, one long-term visit pass holder, four student's pass holders, four work pass holders, 20 work permit holders and four short-term visit pass holders.

With 32 cases discharged on Wednesday, 58,911 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 45 patients remain in hospital, including one in the intensive care unit, while 197 are recuperating in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died of other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 96.1 million people. More than two million people have died.

SINGAPORE - There were 48 new Covid-19 cases reported on Sunday (Jan 24), all of whom were imported and had been placed on stay-home notice or isolation upon their arrival in Singapore.

In its daily update, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that of the new cases, four are Singapore permanent residents and 10 are foreign domestic workers.

There were no new cases in the community or at workers' dormitories.

More updates will be shared on Sunday night, said MOH.

The new cases took Singapore's total to 59,308.

On Saturday, all 10 Covid-19 cases reported were imported, and had been placed on stay-home notice upon their arrival in Singapore, said MOH.

All of them were asymptomatic and were detected from proactive screening and surveillance, added MOH.

The number of new cases in the community has increased to 17 in the past week, from six cases in the week before.

Simple solution: stop the imported cases. Close the borders until there are no community and dormitory cases.

This seems the most logical thing to do (i.e. to follow New Zealand's example) but a hard lockdown is unlikely as it would damage the economy still further.

SINGAPORE - There were 44 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Monday noon (Jan 25), all of which were imported.

The imported cases had been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

There were no new cases in the community for the third day in a row, and none from workers' dormitories.

Monday's new cases take Singapore's total to 59,352.

More details will be announced on Monday night.

On Sunday, Singapore reported 48 imported Covid-19 cases- a high not seen since March 23 last year.

The same number of imported cases - then the highest - was reported on that day in March last year, during a wave of infections among Singaporeans and permanent residents who were returning from abroad.
