Increase in imported covid-19 cases - only a matter of time before it spreads into the community

No imported cases, how to collect money from the mandatory hotel staycations?

India is the biggest source of imported infections.

Dr. Koh Poh Koon: "Of those arriving from India and Indonesia, the proportion of positive cases was 3.7 per cent and 1.6 per cent respectively."

Parliament: Shutting borders to countries such as India and Indonesia would impact lives and livelihoods in S'pore
Rather than close the borders to these countries entirely, Singapore needs to adopt a risk management approach to the inflow of such travellers.

SINGAPORE - Banning travellers from countries such as India and Indonesia would impact the lives and livelihoods of many in Singapore and lead to an economic slowdown, Senior Minister of State for Health, Dr Koh Poh Koon, told Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 16).

What an arsehole. Voters of Sinkiestan, you deserved better.

Why are there imported cases in the first place?
Aren't the passengers required to have a negative test before they board the plane?
Is bribing of airline and security staff common in order for positive cases to get onto the plane?
Are the tests reliable?
Are the test results fake?
Why hasn't the PAP government done anything?

SINGAPORE - There were 25 new coronavirus cases as at noon on Sunday (May 23), including 21 in the community and one in a workers' dormitory.
The Ministry of Health (MOH), in its afternoon update, said three of the new local patients are unlinked. Of the other 19 linked local cases, 12 were already in quarantine when they tested positive.
There were three imported cases. They had been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, and so were already segregated from the community when they were found to have the coronavirus.
Two of them are returning Singaporeans or permanent residents, the MOH said.
The new cases take Singapore's total to 61,824. The country enters its second week of heightened mobility restrictions to contain a resurgence of community spread on Sunday.
The health authority will provide more details on the new cases later in the day.

According to an earlier update from MOH, one of the new community cases is a resident of Block 506 Hougang Avenue 8 who tested positive during a mandatory testing exercise for residents on Friday and Saturday.
The testing exercise for all 116 households in that block at the void deck is the first such operation here, and was begun after some residents of the 12-storey block were found to have Covid-19.
Since then, 10 Covid-19 cases from four different households have been identified in the block. Another 126 test results are pending.
A similar exercise was also announced for the 243 residents of Block 559 Pasir Ris Street 51 on Sunday, although tests will be administered at the regional screening centre at the former Coral Primary School instead of the void deck.

As at Saturday, the number of new cases in the community has increased from 103 two weeks ago to 199 in the past week, with clusters like that at Changi Airport ballooning.
Unlinked cases per week is also up, from 14 two weeks ago to 61 in the past week - a source of worry for the authorities as it could mean a hidden reservoir of undetected cases among the general population.
Some unlinked cases were at Westgate mall in Jurong East recently. Next-door Jem mall had also been visited by people who later tested positive for Covid-19.
Both malls have been shut for two weeks for cleaning and to break any potential chain of transmission.
The number of new cases in the past week has hovered around 20 to 30 per day.
Health Minister Ong Ye Kung has said the Government will have to observe the situation for a few more days "before we know which direction the cases are heading".

The authorities have not ruled out more aggressive curbs to movement if cases continue to go up.
The current suspension of dining in at eateries and the curbing of groups to two people are supposed to continue until June 13, with a review of the measures at the end of May.

SINGAPORE - There were 36 new coronavirus cases confirmed at noon on Monday (May 24), taking Singapore's total to 61,860.
There were 24 community cases, 22 of which have been linked to previous cases.
Twelve had already been quarantined.
There were no new cases from migrant workers' dormitories.
There were also 12 imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH). Of these, five are returning Singaporeans or permanent residents.
More details will be announced on Monday night, said MOH.

The adjacent malls of Jem and Westgate in Jurong East were declared the centre of a new community cluster on Sunday (May 23), with four cases now linked to them.
Giving details of these as well as others in the 21 community cases announced on Sunday, the MOH said the four included a music teacher at Yamaha Music School who developed a fever and sought treatment five days later.
The 59-year-old man fell sick on May 16 and went to a GP clinic last Friday. His antigen rapid test come back positive on the same day and he was immediately isolated.
The other three individuals linked to the cluster include a 39-year-old cleaner at Westgate shopping mall and a 44-year-old visitor, whose preliminary tests have come back positive for the B1617 variant.

The last is a 31-year-old delivery truck driver who was detected during testing for people who worked in or had visited Jem and Westgate.
The two malls are now closed for two weeks, during which they will be cleaned.
Other local community cases include three connected to a large cluster at Changi Airport Terminal 3, such as a seven-year-old boy whose family had visited the airport on numerous occasions, two McDonald's delivery riders connected to a cluster at the Pasir Ris Elias Community Club outlet, and a 78-year-old woman linked to a cluster at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Of the community cases, 12 were under quarantine when they tested positive.
There are two unlinked community cases. The first is a vaccinated 60-year-old woman who was detected during testing for residents of Block 506 Hougang Avenue 8.
The second is a 74-year-old woman who had body aches, vomiting and chills last Wednesday and sought medical treatment on the same day but was not tested for Covid-19.
Her condition worsened on Saturday and she was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. She has also been vaccinated.
Other than the 21 community cases, a worker living in a dormitory, a 46-year-old construction worker at H&W Communications, also returned a positive test. He is asymptomatic and was detected when he was tested on Saturday as part of routine testing.

SINGAPORE - There were 26 new coronavirus cases confirmed at noon on Wednesday (May 26), taking Singapore's total to 61,916.
There were 23 community cases and one in a migrant workers' dormitory.
Twenty-one of the cases have been linked to previous cases, with three unlinked. Fourteen had already been quarantined.
There were also two imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).
More details will be announced on Wednesday night, said MOH.
Tuesday's cases included three students, a pre-schooler and a housekeeper at Sengkang General Hospital (SKH).

On Wednesday, SKH said colleagues who were in close contact with the housekeeper are now under quarantine and additional measures have been taken to mitigate the risk of infection from him.
Three new clusters were also announced on Tuesday, including one at the Harvest @ Woodlands dormitory.
Thirteen people were discharged on Tuesday, while 250 cases remain in hospital. Of these, most were stable or improving, and two were in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 279 were isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
There have been 32 deaths here from complications due to Covid-19 infection, while another 15 who tested positive for the virus have died of other causes.

seems pretty stable to me. And of these new cases most are probably asymptomatic or minimal symptoms.

Singapore cannot force the hand. It has to wait for the rest of the world to reopen before the air travel will recover at Changi Airport.

It is actually not good numbers. After one week of Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), the community cases should start to decline by now. And given how packed dormitories are, just one case can spread rapidly.
