Was it a mistake to not contest the ward? Maybe things could have been different!

WP is a useless and silent party.
All WP MPs have no balls to confront the PAP.
WP only care to collect 16k easy money every month to stay silent inside parliament.
Having WP inside parliament make no differences.
I hope WP will lost completely in next GE.

Not a mistake, because WP wants to be seen as a co-operative opposition and they may have performed better but probably still lost. Don't forget that SG has a lot of moderate opposition supporters who would support WP but not SDP.

You mean you have forgotten that a high profile lawyer from WP cannot even beat a PAP rookie in Fengshan in last year's GE?

We can only sexpulate but in future if another by elec comes about, WP better go in.

it would be gullible to believe so and it would not make much difference in excess of 20% votes max.

face it, WP did not landed in the east and garner so much votes using one night stand approach. every party is pitted against Goliath. Silvia Lim already admitted they were pitted against a heavy machinery.

the current approach by Oppo are still wrong. you need to invest resources, money and time to win seats.

In not contesting and choosing their battle carefully, WP is showing that they are a serious party and won't jump onto any opportunity that comes along.

Even if WP were to contest, they will likely do better than sdp due to party branding but will unlikely win. They don't have a ground presence here.

WP might get 3-5% more, that is it, PAP still win the election.

reputation in tatters as one fickle liulian abandoned her constituency totally even though she could have served it as an ncmp (drawing a much lower stipend). with that abandonment and betrayal, no constituency will trust any wp stooge sent to a ward merely for window dressing. the damage is irrecoverable for at least another 6.9 election cycles.

You need a "DONALD TRUMP" here, with the money & the mouth to say anything that is plausible....all you need is plenty of money, to 'buy' & 'fix' people.... all you need is money....the proven thing is, it is all right if you can go around screwing other's people wives....the PARTY will still survive & people will still believe in the party....as time go on....they would not be calling any by-election for the people will still endorse them & people do not mind what their MP does & it is a waste of time & resources & the residents time also..calling for ELECTION...just let the MP step down & put in place an "interim" MP until the next election...

If that is what the people wants..this is what they should get....

the ncmp doesn't represent the constituency which he/she lost in by law. so there is no abandonment and betrayal here.

I don't think it matters which party contest or who is fielded by the opposition.
If a party whose incumbent MP has an affair and torn apart a family with 2 innocent children can still "win" , what's the point of analysing the results to death?

If its a situation where the pappy wins no matter what happens-look at the deaths in SGH hepatitis gate, Pasir Ris MRT, Pte Dominique as example -why not save money and energy and let them win on nomination day?
Let them gain the hollow victory that they so crave -as what's the point of engaging in a contest where all the odds are stacked against you?

still, she can stay with the constituency to build trust and familiarity for the long haul and perhaps garner more votes in the next election instead of bailing out as a cum-n-go one-timer just because ncmp pay is not as good. at least chee has perseverance and stubbornness in loss. wp has attracted a bunch of opportunists with little to no intestinal fortitude.

we don't know. she might still be working the ground in PE. rejecting the NCMP seat doesn't mean that she is leaving PE for good. it was only for 2 years, but she was still the incumbent MP, for her to accept the NCMP is a personal humiliation and the miserable small pay is not worth the time and effort spent in parliament. it is understandable why she rejected it from the personal standpoint. from the WP's standpoint, they have better candidates than her for the NCMP seat too.

Exactly.

WP is a moderate Party and it very well accepted by the moderate voters. That's the way to go and at this point in time, they are the real credible Alternative Party threat to PAP.
