I would love to see one of these three blood sucking ministers become the victim....unfortunately for the poor victim and the others who were knocked down by this fucking diplomat, their fate were already written. There is basically nothing that can be done at all not unless the government is prepared to go against the Vienna Convention treaty. To expect the Romanians to mete out justice on behalf of the victims, that is just as equally doubtful.

Diplomatic Immunity is tiered depending on the category of staff in the diplomatic mission. Its also covers their family. It does not cover local staff. Besides the Vienna convention there is also reciprocal arrangements.

The Bangla and Ah Tiong is not covered and will be hanged.

When on this subject, many do not realise that its covers diplomats and they are usually well educated, upper crust of society and will not damage their own reputation. They also have attractive allowance and expenses are covered for them and family. Things they will not enjoy back home. I am sure such people take great pains to avoid getting into trouble.

Even thought, they might not land in trouble in the host country, they will be sacked when they return home and treated as pariah.

The fact that many in this forum are not aware about diplomatic immunity shows that such an event requiring immunity is not commonplace.

I take it as the immunity applies to all not only diplomat?

Interesting! Then, someone can easily pay a Bangla or Ah Tiong some 4 digits fees to commit murder and qucikly get out of the country?

Ever since I let Mas Selamat ran away under my nose, my prospective towards life have totally changed.

Nowadays I take things very very easy. Anybody I really mean anybody, whether he/she is a killer, murderer, or even a terrorists, I dont bother anymore.

They can come and leave Singapore anytime they want. I dont care anymore.

As long as please do not asked me to resign from my post in PAP and parliment can already ah!

Cause I really need this high salary job to pay all my bills and also to retire comfortably when my time is up in PAP.

So please dont forced me to resign ah!!! Ok???

Scro is right. Diplomatic immunity is already an international convention even before the tragic accident took place. There have been all kinds of arguments for an international agreement on diplomatic immunity. The bastard has gone back and won't return. Rumania govt said it will take the case from there, and there's nothing we can do, whoever is in govt. We can only hope Rumanian justice is swift and fair to S'pore.

LHL's govt is the problem here, and as happened in the Mas Selamat case, it didnt come right out and manage expectations. Something to be said about his political acumen. This will cost dearly political votes. The Old Man would have said something, or caused something to be said thru the media, to manage its PR, despite his other faults.

This is getting embarrassing as its is evident that people are not aware what diplomatic immunity is. Here is some points

1) Singapore and nearly all countries are signatories to the Vienna Convention. It does not matter if Singapore is run by WP or SDP, nothing can be done by the host country (Singapore) if the immunity is not lifted by Romania.

2) There is nothing cultural or how suaku the other country is when it comes to diplomatic immunity. Many years ago, A US marine killed a Romanian poet while driving drunk in their capital Bucharest. The US refused to lift the immunity. Recently another US diplomat killed someone in Russia. Same thing.

3) The only thing left is to ensure that the Romanians discipline the chap in their own country which I suspect is very likely.

Singapore has blundered by keeping this quiet for 1 week and not keeping the people informed and updated about the tragedy, and not seeking witnesses by going public. Typical PAP habit of burying their heads in the sand. George Yeo is erroneously giving the impression that the Govt is doing all it can to bring the chap back which is close to zero. Building unreasonable expectation like the swiss standard of living.

Recently Lee Hsien Loong was seen talking and boasting about Singapore customs during its 100th anniversay. According to his speech, as usual, he said Signapore customs is the best and the system "works". I am sure Mas Selmat and Dr Romanian would agree with him.
