Both had their own way
Both became well known part of World polticis

She went to Oxford and he went to Cambridge
She destroyed the unions and he made the unions his prostitutes
She had a bitter hate love relations with the press and he made the press his bitch
She privatised public companies to increase performance and he did the same but got his family and associates to run it
She regularly held her meet-the-people sessions over 32 years and he delegated to his fellow MPs
She left No 10 as she found it and he never left the Istana
She never had any family members occupying public office but he did the opposite
She and Reagan had a close working relationship and he thought he too had the same relationship
She fought a war for her country but he his defence budget to the GDP was twice as much
She was called the "Iron Lady" and he was called the "Autocrat"
She demanded and he dictated
She was admired and he was grudgingly respected
She handled dissent and he never allowed dissent
She was a big fish in a big pond and he thought he knew about the fish and the pond
She was dealing with Gorbachev to end the Cold war and he failed with Myanmar
She built a legacy for her nation and he built a legacy for double digit GDP growth

Er...

She crushed the unions and left entire communities in misery for a generation, even to this day. There was no retraining for them, no program to redevelop the areas economically even after the North Sea oil windfall revenues came in - they were really believer in the neo-liberalism that would go on to infect most of the world. And her government did some tweaking so that most of these people went onto the disabilities benefit lists which to this day there are still on and claiming benefits.

In fairness, big state socialism started by Atlee/Labour had passed its expiry date and the entire nation was suffering.

World's best paid politician taking into account of the volume and depth of work involved

Most revered leader in a city-state of 700 square kilometres

Credited for developing a pea-sized country into a developed nation


Margaret Thatcher

First and only woman prime minister of the 20th century

Not as well-paid as LKY. In addition her volume and depth of work involved is N-times that of LKY's

A very controversial leader in a country of 244,000 square kilometres

Credited for strengthening the British economy and the stature of the UK in Europe

Thatcher ran a country. KY was a caretaker for his foreign masters.

How to even compare immortal with a mere mortal like Thatcher??

Everyone has his or her own dark secrets and dark spot..

For Lee kuan Yew, i cannot forgive him for keeping one Dr Lim interned for some over 20 years on an island..He just decimate a good doctor life for his politcal gain..

He has to pay for it...

Overall, his skill, intelligence and vision brings us out of our slump..I give credit..
overall..only a B+
