I agree. At best, they will know what percentage of which block of flats (or district, or clusters) voted for incumbent and opposition. Voters fear being traced, and I don't recall the PAP going all out to allay this fear. All they will say is your vote is secret. But voters can't shake this off in this climate of fear.
I suggest LHL go Kuan Yin temple and take a 毒t誓. If PAP ever open the ballot boxes, he LHL will choke to death on fish balls or fall to his death by slipping on banana skins...
What for? You rely on superstition instead of fact in practice? After counting, the ballot boxes are sealed and vaulted for six months, then incinerated, in front of both PAP and opposition candidates, agents and officials. If you vote for Kuan Yin to protect you, Muslims would vote for Allah, Hindus would vote for Krishna and Christians would vote for Jesus.

Forgot to check with you - did SL show up?
Do you vote for just any opposition candidate, or do you vote for just any PAP candidate, or do you take a good look at the candidates and the parties contesting in order to decide?
I also didn't show up. My bodyguard reported sick. LTK also didn't show up.
You don't need a bodyguard. You need an escort.
The equation significantly changed when the Govt amended the law to allow reserved seats for those who perform reasonably well but did not win a seat outright. In view of the number of seats available, voting for the proverbial bicycle thief is no longer on the cards. It now means the competition within the opposition is now intense.
The fight is no longer is with PAP but within the opposition parties for the 9 seats. You got to give PAP credit for the ingenious way that they have delivered this. Now not only they can secure their monopoly on full MP seats except for one or two but now claim that they have at least 9 opposition members in parliament. Foreigners would have little clue.
I've got to give you credit for seeing this and pointing this out. This may be root cause to the intra-opposition anymosity that we're seeing gathering steam instead of unity
If you take 2006 results and apply the new formula, the results for NCMP places will be
1) Sylvia - WP
2) WP -Aljunied
3) Steve Chia - SDA
4) WP - East Coast GRC
5) WP - East Coast GRC
6) Tan Bin Seng - WP
7) Lian Chin Way - WP
(hope I got the calculations right)
Notice that 6 will come from WP alone and it does not include LTK. Knowing the human mind, I would envisage some level of in-fighting and jockeying for candidate places within WP. The weak ones will try to suck up to LTK. With Reform Party in the mix and with KJ and some quality candidates do expect venom being exchanged between WP and RP.
SDP is certainly out of the race.
He is not the only one, as you correctly pointed there is tension in the air. I once brushed aside the comment about the SPP spilt was due to this. Now I think it does have merit.

Sigh - the deviousness of the PAP.

9 NCMP seats + 9 NMP seats = 18 Non-PAP MP
One hand people can have a PAP MP to serve the ward and on the flipside also NCMP can provide alternate voice in the Parliament
That's PAP's strategy coz they anticipate a battle this time. They are now trying to appease the voting populace by giving us reps in Parliament. Reps who can speak but cannot vote.
This strategy help to reduce votes for Oppositions since 9 NCMP seats are assured in the Parliament.
