Last weekend, 80 residents and friends of Hougang SMC joined MP Png Eng Huat on a 3D2N tour of South East Asia’s cultural prism – Penang. The fun filled itinerary of the 3 days include visits to the many temples such as the historical Kek Lok Si Temple, the grandeur yet serene Sleeping Buddha Temple, the magnificent Burmese Buddhist Temple and the ancient Snake Temple. A visit to St Paul’s Church was also on day 3's itinerary.
Everyone was brought back to the 1960s of Singapore when we thronged through well preserved old street alleys and saw the many old but historical architectural buildings along the way; momentarily transporting us back to the more carefree and less hectic life of the past.
We also visited the Surname bridge and Chew’s jetty and even took the steep cable car ride up to Penang Hill. Standing at 900m above sea level, we had a bird's eye view of the city which was simply breathtaking!
And of course savoring the local food fares is a must do in a gourmet town like Penang! Sumptuous local delights at the famous Gurney’s Drive savoured include curry noodle, fried kway teow, chendol etc.
The great bonds between the residents were further strengthened when everyone enjoyed a karaoke session over dinner and celebrated the birthdays of the March babies like one big happy family.
