[h=1]Hougang residents give new MP rousing welcome[/h]
By Andrea Ong

One day after becoming the new MP elect of Hougang, the Workers' Party's Png Eng Huat went on a tour of the ward to thank residents for their support.
With him on the lorry were the five Aljunied GRC MPs, including WP chief and former Hougang MP Low Thia Khiang, and the two Non-Constituency MPs.
The euphoria of polling night still lingered in the air. Near Blk 322 at Hougang Ave 5 where a crowd had gathered the night before, hundreds once again swarmed the street, reaching out to press the hands of the MPs and garland them. Traffic slowed to a crawl as cars honked in unison.
Elsewhere, residents lined the roadside and leaned out of their windows to cheer Mr Png on.
Many waved WP flags or brandished the blue WP umbrella. Aljunied GRC MP Pritam Singh sang the Hokkien song Ai Pia Jia Eh Yia (You Must Fight Hard To Win) over the loudspeaker and residents chimed in on the chorus.
Earlier, Mr Png told reporters he was determined to work hard for all Hougang residents. His wife and two children were very happy for him, he said.
