NEW YORK: Channel NewsAsia has won big at the New York Festivals International Television and Film Awards. Submissions came from 84 countries, with more than 300 gold, silver and bronze medals awarded for all facets of television and film production.
Channel NewsAsia won one gold and three bronze world medals. The event celebrates the best of television and film production.
Yazid Salomoon, who represented Channel NewsAsia at the festival, said: "It is quite a big deal because the New York Festivals is a world-renowned competition and to be able to win a medal is something that's a recognition towards our work, and we really do look upon it." The awards were given out at a cocktail party in the heart of Manhattan.
Channel NewsAsia was awarded a finalist certificate for its Kim Jong-Il teasers in the Information Magazine Programme Promotion category. Two bronze world medals came first for the programme - "Scene City: Singapore Living Spaces" - and News Promotion won for its all-day business news promotions.
The biggest prize was the gold world medal for Channel NewsAsia's "Life after People" promotions. The competition included some of the richest broadcasters on the planet - such as third-time Broadcaster of the Year, ESPN, the American sports channel.
And Channel NewsAsia's parent company MediaCorp was honoured twice, including special recognition from the United Nations - for programming which best exemplifies the aims of the UN. The bronze award is shared by recipients from Singapore and the United States. Caldecott Productions International of Singapore is a co-winner for their "Mother Earth Speaks". "Mother Earth Speaks" took a Bronze world medal for cinematography. -
